We absolutely love the location of Sierra Resort it's quietly nestled in the forest away from the crowds. The option of booking the private onsens to share as a couple is special and keeps us coming back. The staff go above and beyond in helping with dinner bookings, ski shuttle information and room cleanliness. The in-house breakfast and dining I'd excellent.

This year the ski shuttle seemed to be limited, and highly recommend hiring a car if you like the freedom of getting around early.

We had a nice room, lovely outlook, comfortable large bed, private onsen, what more could you want other than a car. Everything about our stay was great, but the hotel a little remote, so didn’t venture out at night due to the limited bus service. We used the local bus service to go skiing which worked well. The restaurant at the hotel was expensive, but they made up for it by offering complimentary hot food like miso soup and chicken curry and rice between 12-4pm, then complimentary drinks and snacks in the evening.

We stayed here 10 years ago and came back cause Sierra is a well run resort with nice rooms, helpful staff and we love the indoor and outdoor onsen experience.

Although location in the forrest is pretty (with views of the mountains), the shuttle to ski fields and into Hakuba wasn’t as frequent and flexible as the first time we stayed. The ski shuttle bus to and from Hakuba47 and Happo-one was very crowded and slow. Sierra restaurant was amazing but for dining at local Hakuba restaurants it’s important to make reservations in advance given shuttle service only covers the train station and bus terminal areas which tend to get busy.

Absolutely top notch experience. We were kept happy 24/7 - snacks available all day, a few fantastic onsen options (private / public), resort’s shuttle bus to get around, helpful and knowledgeable staff, clean rooms with high quality daily service

Once piece of constructive feedback - early morning transportation can be a challenge. Advice to staff is to warn people to order scheduled early morning pickups on the departure date as the rest of the itinerary can be at risk

Onsen/ hot spring is one of the best in Hakuba. Breakfast is standard buffet style like most Japanese ski resorts decent selection but same every day. Hotel has complementary wine and snacks between 4pm and 9pm in the lounge and complementary green curry and miso soup at the hotel entrance at other times. Nice after returning from the mountain.

In previous seasons the hotel ran shuttle busses to Echoland, Happone, etc. So you could get around without using Taxis, etc. This is essential as the hotel is a little remote in terms of proximity to restaurants, bars, chair lifts. So the shuttle service was great. For some reason 23/24 season its no longer offered,

Rooms: We had the Executive Suite which had a living room and bedroom and a tub on the balcony too facing the courtyard. It was spacious for a family of 4. I think the living room had two sofa couches, but because we have little kids we didn't use it. It was on the East wing which seems like the larger rooms on that side. Everything was clean and in good condition. There was an air room filter and heat control. Also heated floors in the bathroom sink area which we used to dry our snow clothes and gloves. Our toilet had a lid which opened automatically and flushed automatically. The best toilet! At least in my wing of the building it was quiet. I hardly heard any noise outside, through the walls or outside my door. I think I didn't visit during a busy time, but non-the-less the rooms seem pretty sound proof. They refresh your room everyday and replace the water bottles, towels, toiletries and yukata. I saw staff cleaning the outside of room windows so it seems they work hard to keep the rooms clean. The hotel's general appearance is older and some things like the hallway carpet needs updating. Also the private onsens don't have a bathing area and that needed repair. The public onsen is nicer than the private ones. Service: All the staff is nice and helpful if you ask questions. The staff at the breakfast buffet are a bit sleepy and the younger generation, but hey. . .I'd be like that too if I had to wake up early and work late. I think the staff were the same ones during dinner. So they must have some kind of split shift. The country has a more laid back feel, so unlike in Tokyo where they have a lot of staff meandering around, the staff here are more in the background. Of course if you need something, they are always around to ask questions and there are always people at the front desk to welcome incoming people. Location: Its not easy to get to and from the ski hills if you're using all the different shuttle busses.

Shuttles that run more often because unless you have a car you can't get around very easily.

Spacious lounge and common facilities. We like the convenience of its own ski rental, the 4 private onsen and the free flow wine/ sake and light snacks. Oden is very good. Rooms are comfortable and spacious.

The wifi bandwidth is low and no Netflix in the room. I think the cleanup of the rooms could be better (removal of used cups, replenishing of tea bags, tidiness of the bed) although these are small complaints.

Free snacks and wine in the lounge for guests is wonderful after a day of skiing. All of the staff were extremely friendly and the room was well kept. The private Onsen opens up for booking at 3pm daily which was great!

Some of the reviews complain of the location. We rented a car and we thought the location was fabulous and away from some of the more boisterous parts of town. It’s a peaceful escape in the woods.

The property was beautiful. The onsen facilities were really good and have great outdoor views. I enjoyed the private onsen. The rooms were spacious. Also enjoyed the happy hour free flow of wine and snacks.

Restaurants only allowed for set meals. Rather difficult for people who do not want to eat a full course and have food restrictions.

Beautiful hotel in natural location. Our room was comfortable with a great forest view and radiant heat floors. Natural Onsen, massage chairs, breakfast buffet and wonderful French restaurant. On site parking. Very kind responsive staff

Limited dinner option required going outside of resort. Private Onsen hard to book.
