Great welcome. Very friendly and chatty. We were shown around and shown to our room, which doesn't happen very often, but which we appreciate. Good sized room, comfortable bed, black out curtains, shower a bit temperament (it was either a little too cool, or so hot you burnt off a layer of skin. Especially when someone else was showering at the same time). Really large, clean and well equipped kitchen. Microwave, 2 ovens, 2 sinks, large fridge and plenty of crockery and utensils. All clean and well kept. Large lounge area with massive TV (no TV or kettle in your room). Parking in car park just behind building. Great location for wandering into town, lots of shops, plus a KFC and Maccas if you can't be bothered to cook. Would return if in area.
Nothing.

This hostel is a work in progress for updating but was a great hostel to stay in. Glen and Daniel were friendly and helpful and have great plans as they update it. Colourful themes. Huge games room with ping pong and pool tables. The kitchen was clean and very organised. The eating area was also a good size. We stayed in a double room with a small though adequate ensuite. It is located right in town and is painted a landmark yellow! There is a dry storage room for bicycles. They also have a 1 pm check in time which was very helpful. We would definitely come back again.
It needs some upkeep but they are working on that.

I am NOT a hostel stayer. I had my doubts about this place as it looks shabby and cheap BUT I was very pleasantly suprised as they are upgrading the accommodation and we had a gorgeous twin room with the sun streaming in all afternoon and evening, the room was amazingly warm without turning the heating on, we even left the window open until about 1am. The beds were lovely and comfy and as I have a back issue and going for surgery soon I was a bit worried but I didnt need to as I woke without being in pain. The host was lovely and chatty and told us some of the history of the building. As I said above I DO NOT stay in Hostels but I will be back. Thank You 😊
The showers could have been better and nicer but again they are getting upgraded so I am sure the next time I stay they will be as lovely as the rest of the upgraded areas. 😊

Everything from check-in to departure. We received an ‘extra touch’ in the form of a Welcome note and a Congratulations on our 20th wedding anniversary, a breakfast comp as we don’t drink alcohol and declined the free libation on registration/ retrieving keys. The room was expansive, well appointed and super clean, the addition of Library & lounge fantastic. If we had stayed longer, we would have used the community kitchen. We love the eclectic concept of the hotel/ hostel. The service was exceptional. If we return to Christchurch, we know where we will stay.
Not having coffee in the room!

Had a great one night stay at the Duke hostel. Easily located from the bus station, we had a very warm welcome from the owner who gave us some tips for around the area. We had a twin room which was newly decorated, had a sink which was a huge bones and the beds were very comfortable, we slept so well. Bathrooms were clean and it was a good shower. WiFi worked well throughout. The kitchen was huge with everything you could possible have thought of for cooking. We also borrowed some bikes and cycled out to the mouth which was beautiful. Would recommend and stay again if ever in the area.

For a hostel, we thought it was quite nice and had a lot of personality. Both the outside & inside of the hostel is quite colorful, giving the whole place a quirky touch. Stayed in a room with private bathroom, which was clean, and the hostel even provided bath towels to our surprise. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking supplies and utensils, and in the shared space, there are hot water bags that you can fill up to help heat your bed.
Though there is heating in each unit, the heater in our room was timed. So each time you press the on button, it would run for a while and then automatically turn off. So, be prepared for the room to feel a bit more chilly in the morning, especially when visiting late winter/early spring or early winter/late fall. Parking is behind the hostel, which may be a bit confusing to find at first. But, there are plenty of spots.

The property was very clean and the owner was always walking through the place tidying up. I left some water on the floor in the bathroom and felt guilty leaving it as I couldn't find a mop but it must have been cleaned in the middle of the night as it was dry by early morning. The common room had a warm coal fire that the owner ensured was always full and their was a basket of hot water bottles that were free to use which helped with the cold weather. The place was older in style and condition but you could see the rooms that had already been renovated. The toilet walls that have been renovated were painted a beautiful green and the bins, toilet holder etc were modernised in this room. I look forward to visiting again in the future and seeing the next renovations

The hostel was warm and had a lovely atmosphere to it. It wasn’t to most modern hostel we have been to but probably one of our favourites. It had a personality and the interior was fun and a good atmosphere. The owner was extremely kind and very fun to talk to, definitely making our stay 100% better. The room we had was private and was very good value for money, would definitely stay again if in the area! It gave free tea and coffee alongside milk which was also a lovely touch!
The only thing to fault it was slightly cold at night as don’t think it had central heating but the rooms did come with heaters. But it was manageable!

Everyone had to share bathrooms, but there were M/F designated showers and one unisex. Kitchen very well stocked with utensils and plenty of of refrigerator/ freezer storage. Our room had a washbasin. Lovely bedroom decor . Very little street noise. Table tennis and pool table useful on rainy days.
The bar, unfortunately, was closed and only opens once a year! The building was once a hotel, so interesting photos on the walls.

Very good location right in town centre. Clean comfortable and pleasant staff I had a double room with bathroom Good value
As I was travelling by motorbike I always check to see if they have on site parking for security reasons. Their information says they do but when I arrived found that the parking was behind the property and that it was an open public parking space No security or cameras disappointing
