Celebrating 30 Years of Love at Victoria and Alfred Hotel, Newmark Cape Town. My wife and I chose the Victoria and Alfred Hotel by Newmark in Cape Town as the destination to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, and what an excellent choice it was! Our stay from the 14th to the 21st of December was nothing short of remarkable. The hotel's location could not have been more ideal. We were enchanted by the convenience of having a mall just a stone's throw away. The area around the hotel is a food lover's paradise, with many restaurants to choose from. A highlight for us was the accessibility to the hop-on-hop-off bus service, with a stop just around the corner from the hotel. This made exploring Cape Town a breeze and allowed us to soak in the city's beauty and culture effortlessly

I find myself hard-pressed to pinpoint aspects that we did not like. From the warm reception and meticulous housekeeping to the exceptional service at the restaurant and bar, every aspect of the hotel was well-organized, contributing to a memorable and flawless experience.

Breakfast was SUPERB with all staff really friendly and GENUINLY pleased to greet and talk to you - despite being busy! Room exceeded expectations with wonderful separate toilet (a real plus when its not within the bathroom. Bathroom was incredible with large Shower AND bath AND twin basins. Room was superb with PLENTY of drawers and space to put everything. Higher priced hotel we have stayed in during previous stays couldn't match the storage facilities in the room. Most hotels we stay in are almost always very lacking in drawer space. Bed really comfy. Cleanliness really good. Fabulously appointed. Wonderfully centraly located hotel in the Piazza. Location couldn't be more perfect. Right in the center of Quayside. Easy walks to everywhere. Hop on/Hop of buses around the corner to get you to beaches, vineyards,..you name it. Sit and people watch or have an adventure and tandem paraglide over Cape Town for that "Wow" factor! All sightseeing tours just a walk away. Can't be beaten for location and accessibility. Hotel has views over the Piazza and of Table Mountain. Sit, eat and drink on the wonderful seating area (shaded with fantastic canopies that withstood the wind completely!) with table mountain as a background for photos. Waiting service fantastic as was the fabulous food. Wonderful seating area on quayside. If you want a change there are dozens of restaurants am few steps away, as there are shops et al. Five Star rating plus - GREAT value for money. Could write a book!

The fact that we had to be out of our room by 11.00 and our flight wasn't until 8.00pm in evening. They had nowhere for us to change in. Changing in the public loo in foyer not at all suitable - however, it is what it is. Could have a small room for customers to use as this ruins your last day of a an excellent stay.

Perfect location right in the middle of the V & A Waterfront which had plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops and felt safe. We had a Mountain View room which was amazing to look out over the waterfront and across to Table Mountain … we saw seals and dolphins playing in the water from our room plus at breakfast. Plus the room was massive compared to other hotels we have stayed in in other cities. Breakfast is served inside and out in front of the waterfront so amazing views, plus great breakfast choices. There is valet parking which is free (incredible for a city location) so you can just park up your rental car in front of the hotel … perfect no hassle trying to find a parking space. Also walking distance from the hotel into Cape Town city centre itself. All the staff are so friendly, helpful and attentive. Loved our stay, would totally recommend the Victoria and Albert Hotel.

Fabulous location, right beside the waterfront, close to lots of restaurants and shops. You always felt safe walking around the waterfront. Our room was 216 And it was great, overlooking the square, could open the window and hear The music from outside but totally quiet when windows were closed. Good clean bathroom, great shower. Fabulous breakfasts, everything you could want. We sat outside one morning for breakfast which was lovely. There's nothing I would complain about and we would most definitely Stay here again. Lovely staff too, very helpful and friendly.

Can't think of anything we didn't like.

The concierges were excellent as the parking is not at the hotel. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and especially Luci addressed our issues quickly and efficiently. The breakfast was good but needed attention – especially the unripe fruit presented. The hot breakfast was excellent. the location is 100% and the best in the V&A Waterfront. We asked for synthetic (memory foam) pillows, and they arrived promptly.

The staff in the restaurant is unfriendly and not very attentive. They are also very noisy with no respect for guests' privacy. The cutlery needs severe attention and should be replaced as the knives can't cut through a slice of toast. a room facing Table Mountain should be less noisy and the view better.

Location, location. location on the waterfront Rooms were spacious with two easy chairs and a great view of the plaza. There was a noisy band outside, but they stopped at a reasonable time Hotel was very helpful arranging a driver to take us to the wine region with only one days notice.

Prior to our stay, the hotel asked us several times to pay in advance which was not within the rules of booking.com Ultimately, they honored our reservation, but I felt it necessary to call several times to make sure they did not cancel on us/ I did not appreciate being hustled.

Everything was perfect. The breakfast was delicious and varied. The staffs are more than friendly and helpful (I would like to thank Theoo, Niki, and mhuniba for everything they did for me). I think the hotel has the best location at waterfront, everything is around you. I would book it again.

You can’t beat the central location on the waterfront, which as a solo traveller, was also very safe to explore at night. I stayed in a loft room, which was comfortable and spacious, with a view of the waterfront and table mountain - it was also great to be able to open the windows and have fresh sea air in the room. The breakfast buffet is extensive, and has options of cooked meals, and was excellent.

Service is good, as expected of a chain, but it didn’t feel overly friendly or genuine compared to smaller hotels, and they didn’t follow through on all requests (such as booking of tours / spa) Charging extra for coffee at breakfast (not everyone drinks percolated coffee) There is no printed information easily available in the room (ie room service, spa, hotel details), without using phone / app to access each time, which felt a bit gimmicky. Also some of the information via the app was either out of date (ie spa offer, which I discovered when booking), or links not working, such as a room service menu.

The location was amazing and it was a convenient walk away from everything on V&A waterfront. Their service was great as well and from the time we checked in - we felt very welcome. The team at the reception, the servers who helped us at the restaurant and the bell captains all recognised us throughout our stay and made an effort to keep us comfortable. Housekeeping did a great job too. We extended our stay at the hotel by a day to explore capetown more. Also - our biggest worry was loadshedding before our trip (especially because we were travelling with young kids). The hotel worked beautifully on generators and everything was powered through that.

I only wish they’d give more than two complimentary bottles of water. After paying a good amount per room per night, don’t think about 500/600 ML of water a day is an ample provision.

Location - Fantastic. In the heart of the V&A Waterfront Breakfast - Nice hot breakfast choices to complement buffet options Room - Room was absolutely huge with modern touches including USB ports Staff - Always friendly and helpful

Noise - Street performers can be loud at times but they stop before it gets too late Uber - Never wanted to pick us up at the hotel but at a mall entrance some distance away Cost - One of the pricier options in the V&A, but I think worth it in the end
