This is a lovely small boutique hotel, situated on the side of a mountain with stunning views across the valley to the village of Alcaucin. The three sisters who run this establishment have given the property a homely traditional feel with well thought out decor, and immaculate gardens. The pool area is attractive with ample sun beds and shade if required. There are only 9 rooms in this hotel and all have a small terrace facing the valley. The beds were comfortable and there was a large wardrobe for storage. The bathroom was well appointed with a shower over the partly sunken bath. The Breakfast menu was extensive, served at the table either indoor, on the terrace or in the garden, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The rooms were well serviced and nice and fresh when we came back to the hotel later in the day.

One of the attractions of this property would be it’s isolated location, but the lane ( I use the term loosely) leading down to the hotel from the A402 is not very well made, and is not easy to navigate in the dark. The car park is very small and awkward to manoeuvre around if the hotel is fully occupied. There are no streetlights or pavements on this lane and although visitors to the area would be there for hiking the mountains, there is nowhere to walk to from the hotel itself.

The hosts make every effort to offer an enjoyable stay. Room is nice and convenient, looking out to a common garden. Breakfast is excellent. Afternoons on the picturesque pool did everything to recharge the batteries from long mountain hikes . Parking is no problem.

A problem which l mentioned to the hosts. The room has no window. So, as not to sleep without fresh air or with air con ( which would be a crime in this environment full of sent of lowers) on has to leave the garden door open , inviting everything or everyone to walk in at night. I slept with " one eye open".

Fantastically beautiful location in the country site, very quiet and relaxing, the hotel is very tastefully furnished with great attention to detail. Our large room was in the main building on the first floor with a large terrace and views of the mountains and the beautiful garden with swimming pool. Very comfortable beds. We slept excellent. Very good breakfast. The dinners were also very good, for us starters and main courses were sufficient. The three sisters are excellent hosts, we felt very comfortable and at home. Unfortunately we only stayed 4 nights at this rural hotel, wished we could have stayed longer. We'd love to come back.

The 3 sisters who have had this little pearl of a hotel for three years are the most welcoming women. From the minute we arrived, we were met with hospitality, smiles, and friendliness, and that lasted throughout our entire stay. Our rooms were spotless , the decor had a nice personal touch that gave us a comfortable and relaxed feeling. The views from the rooms absolutely amazing over the mountains . From the outdoor pool area there are also fabulous views. We could choose to sit in lounge chairs on the grass under palmtrees, or on the terraced area with shady parasols. We were served both coffee and drinks while relaxing by the pool. The garden was perfectly maintained, and many times we saw one of the owners maintaining the outside area, when they were not busy attending to the guests. All the meals we had, were served in the garden right in front of the hotel. Breakfast was included in our stay, and was wonderful-fresh fruits, cereals, eggs bacon, breads with all sorts of toppings, cakes- all served at the table. We could - before noon- put in an order for the dinner menu, or we could choose a lighter dinner a la carte. All we had was delicious and very tasty. If you like a peaceful , intimate and personal hotel, this is definitely worth a visit. This is absolutely worth a stay, and we'll love to come back some day.

This refined country hotel feel like a well kept home, it has nothing to do with the cookie cutter hotels that I am used to visit. The owners are extremely welcoming and kind ladies that speak perfectly multiple languages, making this little jem of a resort feel like a cultured home with guests from Al around the world. This is without doubt the most beautiful place we have ever stayed. From the location to the beautiful rooms, beautiful gardens and the wonderfully kind and attentive without being intrusive three sisters who own and run the hotel, it is all just perfect. There are occasions when, by chance you are lucky enough to find such a special place and this is one. We didn’t want to leave and we hope to return. Thankyou for your kindness and for making our stay so relaxed.

Beautiful property in a wonderful garden. Lots of places to sit and/or lounge. Great views. Fabulous pool. Comfortable, cool room with a small private terrace. Lovely welcoming staff. Very good food and service. All in all: relaxing and restorative. Approx one hour from Málaga airport.

Car parking spaces are a little tight when there are lots of cars needing to park.

A wonderful welcome at this charming rustic hotel with delightful garden run by three sisters who do everything to make you feel welcome and comfortable without being intrusive. Marvellous breakfast and lovely view from patio in comfortable room. Would definitely stay again. The evening meals are hearty, not fine dining.

Definitely need a car and limited walking in the immediate area although not too far to explore the white villages around.

As we drove up the mountain road toward La Vinuela, nothing could have prepared us for the sight that greeted us when we exited the road for Alhama. It was a Shangri-La moment from Lost Horizon. As we turned the bend a beautiful valley suddenly emerged into view, with a turquoise-coloured salt lake below surrounded by an expansive vista of mountain ranges. It wasn't long before we reached the off road entrance to Hotel Rural, still hidden from view until the very last second. But there it was, tucked into the mountainside, this large finca-style hotel, beautifully adorned with small trees, pocket-size lawns, manicured hedges, a water fountain and overhead trellis to shade you from the sun. The perfect setting where breakfast and dinner are cordially served. (We also loved the Salvador Dali-like ornaments embedded into the walls). From there, we made our way down to the panoramic pool-side view overlooking the valley and mountains beyond. It really is a breathtaking sight to behold. All this you can enjoy from the privacy of your room. Indeed, this is a one-off hidden gem that exudes peace and solitude. Perfect for city-dwellers who would like to re-engage with their sanity in the sunlit beauty of rural Spain. Hats off to Isobel, Claudia and Rosy, the three sisters who own and run this delightful retreat. There are other important features and services spotlighted in other reviews - with the exception of one last treat. As the sun went down we heard the faint sound of cowbells off in the distance. Before long, as if on cue from central casting, the local shepherd and his goats meander across the hillside above to complete this picture-perfect setting.

Nothing, a slice of heaven.

Hotel Rural Cortijo de Salia offers excellent value for money. The room was spacious and had a lovely little terrace where you can enjoy a drink, overlooking an incredible mountain vista — you can also enjoy the spectacular views from the common pool area. The staff are friendly and very accommodating, and do their best to help with anything you need. The ability to have dinner on-site was also great (especially if you want to enjoy a bottle of Spanish wine and not need to worry about driving); the meal was all home-made and healthy after eating in restaurants for 10 days. If you fancy a change from tapas, there are also 2 great Indian restaurants in the village, just a 5 minute drive. Finally, there are very comfortable beds and black out curtains — we had the best night's sleeps of our whole trip.

Breakfast was basic yet good, though the same every day, so it became a bit repetitive after 3 days. The bathroom plumbing did give off a bad smell (especially in the mornings when taps started up again), though that can probably be expected in old/rural European farm buildings. We always had about a 30-minute drive to the hikes we wanted to do, but that's hardly the fault of the property.
