This place is a little gem with wonderful owners Maurice and Paul. It is situated in the heart of Competa opposite the church. People with walking difficulties could find it a struggle because it's on a hill up some steps and there are several steps inside the accommodation. The honesty bar with pleasant background music playing and the breakfast are on the roof. The views are absolutely breathtaking from the roof and our balcony. Our room had a little tiny balcony facing the square and the church. Everything is very clean. The TV has Netflix and plenty of choice. There is a little complimentary drink and nuts in the room. Breakfast is served on the roof by the owner. Juice, coffee, oat porridge with peanut and then a compilation of ham/cheese wrap, avocado/salmon mouse and cake. Beautifully served and just enough to start the day. Free parking is in the municipal car park at the bottom of the hill, 5 mins walk uphill towards the church. Communication from the owners was superb prior to our stay. Free wifi. Complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits throughout the day in a little kitchen area. There is a lovely welcoming feel about the place. We felt totally relaxed and at home.

Lots of steps but competa is very hilly. Maybe some yoghurt and fruit at breakfast would be nice.

The breakfast supplied was absolutely fantastic, we thoroughly enjoyed it on both mornings. The location is great, close to the main square and easy to find. The room was lovely, very comfy. I enjoyed the local wine which was left in the room and the very tasty almonds. There are tea/coffee making facilities upstairs which was very welcome. Our host was a real gentleman and was very informative regarding places to visit and local eating establishments. We will definitely return.

We loved everything about this unique boutique hotel. Centrally located but offering great privacy and peace. We particularly liked the roof terrace with its amazing view over the lovely plaza where Maurice served us the most delicious and creative breakfasts every morning and we stayed for 12 nights. We llikes the authenticity of the genuine old world rooms but illuminated with warm lighting and interesting African art works. Maurice is a wonderful host and is key to making this such a special place and experience. He was most helpful in guiding us to interesting places to explore. I would highly recommend this residence to anyone who enjoys unique stays and doesn't have difficulty with stairs. Superb!

Our stay at Almijara was simply fantastic! We were right in the center of Cómpeta, had a great view to the square from the rooftop where we also had the breakfast every morning and it was really amazing, we were always looking forward to it and enjoy the views as well as the food. You can notice that the owners focus more on the quality over quantity. Definitely recommend!

What an amazing location. Right on a pretty square, near the church. Great views down to the sea. Fabby roof terrace and honesty bar. We really enjoyed a pre dinner drink watching the sunset. Comfy bed. Great shower with lots of hot water. Really appreciated the wine in the room and the complimentary coffee and water. Breakfast was amazing. We really enjoyed having an original breakfast on the terrace. Maurice was very hospitable and gave us good restaurant suggestions.

Would have liked bigger bath towels but it was nice to have face cloths. The room was a little snug but appreciated that there is little that you can do about the building footprint.

This was the perfect location for our 2 night stay, immaculate communal areas and rooms and literally steps away from the main square, bars and restaurants. The roof terrace gave us fabulous views over Competa, the mountains and the coast, and was where we enjoyed the most delicious breakfasts and then afternoon/evening drinks from the honesty bar. Maurice was an amazing host and offered some great recommendations for walks, restaurants etc during our stay which meant we made the best use of our short trip! We will definitely return.

Wouldn’t change a thing!

Arriving at Almijara Residence was like arriving back home. Maurice and Paul were very welcoming and immediately felt like old friends. The rooms are small but very functional with modern fixtures (including A/C) and plenty of room to store belongings. The double bed was very comfortable with multiple pillows for this nester! We were in one of the back rooms (#103) which was fortuitous given that it was the local fiestas and the main square was quite lively. This liveliness is a small price to pay for the incredible location which can not be any more central. But light sleepers should consider ear plugs regardless of the season. Breakfast was a delight on the rooftop terrace while Maurice and Paul gave everyone hints for the day. All of their recommendations were spot on. Later in the day, the terrace was the perfect place to unwind with pre (and post!) dinner drinks at the honesty bar. The chill out music was perfect too! The municipal parking lot is close to the hotel (albeit down a steep street) and is also easy to access upon entry into town. The streets are narrow and steep so it is nice to not have to navigate them in the car. What else can I say that hasn’t already been said? For me, Almijara Residence is the only address I need to know in Cómpeta! Go ahead and book your stay, you won’t be disappointed!

Very friendly and nice host, nice breakfast, perfect location, a bit noicy if the door is open during the evening, but it is possible to use the aircon and close the door. Very, very central.

The room was nice and clean, the kitchen, fridge at roof top could use a little cleaning.

Fabulous place to stay. Breakfasts were different every day & so well prepared & presented by Maurice on their lovely balcony. Beds were so comfortable, although rooms were small you had everything you wanted & immaculately clean . Check in & check out was so easy by using ‘ WhatsApp’.

There was nothing that we did not like about the property

We had a great 4-day stay at Almijara Residence. Small and well kept boutique hotel. The owners, Paul and Maurice, added tremendous extra value to the experience by providing personal and tailored support with hiking recommendations and local insights. Breakfast was superb with new dishes every morning served at the lovely roof bar. Rooms are quite small but nicely decorated. But watch out for the "cave room" in the back without windows. Claustrophobic experience... and luckily we could change rooms to one facing the square with stellar views, which made the experience much better. Competa is a nice mountain village, but the road getting you there is a 30min slow, winding and somewhat tiresome experience.

We originally booked the front room facing the square but was offered an "upgrade" from Booking. It turned out to be the "cave room", which was no upgrade by any standard we could think of..., quite the opposite. Maurice assured us this was not something they sponsored either and was able to set us up in the front room after two nights.
