I live in Sri Lanka for more than 2 years and been to dozen of hotels around the island. This on is the best so far! Room and interiors are clean and fancy. I even got the free room upgrade to the one with the bathtub. The staff was great and friendly, especially when I told that I live here :) I was here at the time of Sinhala-Tamil New Year in April. And they organized the half day outdoor party for guests with traditional food, artists, dances, games and NY snacks. They even invited me to take part in traditional rituals like parade and lighting the hearth. As for the location - some reviews are negative about it. I would say the opposite. The beach location is where Bentota river meets Indian ocean. In the morning the water from the river is refreshing and clean, especially during the storm and high tide. If you want waves and more "Ocean experience" - you can go just 200 meters to the right. Breakfast is fine and various from the frut to SL exotics. Nice coffee. Some amenities like squash (always wanted try it) were closed, but from the other side that was the first hotel in SL where there was enough people to play beach volley, even with the staff.

I got generous discount from booking.com loyalty, but overall it's one of the most expensive one in Bentota. There was a mess with 1.5 hour dinner delivery to the room, but the management appologised with free drinks. Which is fine as the hotel was almost full and busy at the moment The only thing I really didn't like is the pool. It's very large and very shallow. Because of that afternoon it is hot as hell. I preferred ocean early in the morning and still you can always refreshen in Bentota river :)

1. There was a persistent unpleasant smell in the bathroom. 2. The laundry service was somewhat expensive, with nearly $2 charged for laundering socks. 3. The Wi-Fi was not good. 4. The beach is located at the edge of a river, so you end up swimming in the river rather than the ocean. 5. The head of drivers, was quite annoying. He insisted we use his tuk-tuk and claimed that other tuk-tuk drivers would bother us because we were tourists, although no one did. On check-out day, he tried to charge us 20,000 Sri Lankan Rupees for a car rental to Galle, while the actual price was around 8,000 Sri Lankan Rupees using PickUp application.

Clean and spacious with friendly staff.

There was no comfortable lounge bar only a large sports bar. The beach would have been fine if we were not hassled to but things from the locals.

Room very good and staff couldn't be more helpful, Rohan looking after the pool area was very helpful and gets a definite 10/10 for effort , the beach at Moragalla is excellent and there's an excellent beach bar and restaurant just along the beach . Breakfast buffet was good every day. Gayan and Indica our regular Tuktuk drivers both couldn't be more helpful

Location near the beach. The territory is small, but very pleasant and green. Beautiful pool area. Spacious sea view room with balconies; all necessary in room amenities. Free parking. Good working WiFi. Helpful staff. The room cleaning was good thanks to Puynaku. Breakfast was okay, but nothing special.

There was fungus on the walls of the room and in the bathroom as well. In room furniture seem to be very old, to be honest room needs to be renovated. The variety of food on the breakfast could be better. No choice of coffee - no cappuccino or latte, just black coffee. The ocean near the hotel seemed to be dirty. The staff in the restaurant need some professional training, they look like newcomers which have their first working day. I can’t say that there is good infrastructure in the area - just 2-3 restaurants in walking distance.

Very warm and cutlural welcome to the hotel.. where you light a paper at the oil lamp. Great food selection all day. And the breakfast was definitely a winner for me. Brilliant and attentive hotel management and team members. And quick access to the beach!

Noise travels in the hallways into the room. You can ask for a quieter room (but if they're busy....you'll probably struggle). It's the slamming/closing of doors.. they're quite thin. Also, it's all (all rooms) partial views of the ocean (and not much).. at least this is what one of the concierge confirmed with me. He said its because of the way the hotel structure is?

My partner had birthday and I requested to arrange cake and bed decoration. While we were having breakfast, bed decoration was done very beautifully and quick. Front desk team and guest relations team were very friendly and attentive , especially would like to give kudos to Tashmila from guest relations. She helped me to arrange cake and bed decoration. She is always smiling and welcoming. I would like to thank hotel for giving us upgrade for the second night. It was a nice gesture. Also, would like to highlight lady who was dancing with kid if I’m not mistaken her name Sanjaya . Even if we don’t have kids, but it was nice to observe how she was interacting and dancing with child.

Our first room 205 was not properly cleaned, we found used paper from previous guests. Also it was a spot on the bed sheet , we asked housekeeping to change it . I think before giving room to the guests it should be properly checked and cleaned. Small suggestion to have an umbrella for the guests. As on our departure it was rainy and we wanted to go to the bar it there is no umbrella for the guests.

We were warmly greeted and welcomed as soon as we stepped out from the vehicle and Ms.Tashmila,the Booking.com representative took care of our reservation immediately and briefed us on the facilities and accompanied right into the suite. The most outstanding person we found at the dining and that was Janaka Prasad, the F&B mangager.He was very accommodative and his entire staff was very courteous, attentive and cheerful. The service was excellent and I noticed that they took care of all guests who were present with a lot of affection. Overall,our stay was very enjoyable and kudos to the management of Occidental Eden Gardens 👍 I'm super excited to come back someday with all my family and friends to Eden Gardens Beruwala

The guest services were exceptional, with every staff member demonstrating a commitment to providing the highest level of hospitality. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the exceptional efforts of Mr. Sanke, the front office manager, and Mr. Mahinda, the restaurant manager, who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Additionally, the water sports activities offered by the hotel were both enjoyable and reasonably priced, with a strong emphasis on safety.

They have a private beach which is excellent, called Golden Mile where indian ocean starts and a huge island is also there, so it's absolutely scenic. However, the beach could be cleaner.

Everything about this property left us very pleased and impressed! Right from the refreshing welcome drink, to the pleasant surprise of the room upgrade, to the great location and ambience, we loved the warmth and the vibe!! All the staff - front office, housekeeping and those in the restaurant were very welcoming and friendly. A BIG THANK YOU to all of them for their great service! Food was good and of good variety. Thanks to Booking.com's Black Friday deal, we enjoyed a 15% discount on F&B across the board which was nice!! The quality of the bathroom amenities was good as well. To be honest, Occidental Eden wasn't our first choice but after this very enjoyable stay, it has become our first choice for future visits to Bentota.

Unfortunately, there were a few minor issues- the TV and remote in our room weren't functioning properly due to a connection and router issue. Neither did the weighing scale in the bathroom. For an environmentally conscious hotel chain, the 500ml bottles of water provided should be replaced with 1L bottles to reduce the environmental impact. Surprisingly, Cold Coffee wasn't available at the Hotel.
