This is an exceptional place to stay - we could not recommend it more highly. Beautiful jungle location teaming with birds and wildlife, gorgeous tasteful rooms, convenient location near Galle Fort and all the nearby beaches. Best of all were the staff. Anitha ran the most seamless operation and is a world class masseuse - make sure to try one of her treatments. Hashani’s food was the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka by far. Perera went out of his way to make us feel welcome and keep the place spotless.

Staff are amazing, very friendly and provide lots of useful advice for your first time in Sri Lanka. Rooms are very beautiful and comfortable, regulating the heat really well without the need for AC. Love the family style breakfast and dinner. Delicious food, with a mix of western and Sri Lankan elements. Highly recommend some of the Ayurveda massage treatments performed by Anitha. Location is a little awkward, in that it’s off from the main tourist spots, so a lot of tuk tuk drivers have some difficulty locating it. That said, hotel can assist with getting you a tuk tuk or driver. Pool is very nice, but in need of a little TLC as do some other areas of the property, which at the price point you’d expect to be looked at.

Wow! I was able to spend 2 nights in the beautiful accommodation and can only recommend it with all my heart! The staff are very accommodating and warm with great attention to detail. The breakfast was incredible and there were great food and activity recommendations from the hosts that you could take advantage of. I also had a great Ayurveda treatment, which was the cherry on top of the stay - it was really great and I felt very comfortable at all times. You can tell that the hosts care a lot about the safety and well-being of their guests - a really great experience and a really great team. The location gave you great opportunities to see the wildlife around the accommodation and recharge your batteries - the perfect getaway spot.

Short drive from restaurants in fort Galle, surrounded by nature. This property was originally built as a family home and it has not lost that essence. Anne, the host made the experience so personal and welcoming. 🏳️‍🌈 The breakfast was the best we had on our entire Sri Lankan trip. Prepared in house by a qualified Ayurvedic doctor. Delicious, healthy, organic and local produce. The property is so unique, if you are into architecture, this one is a must!

There was nothing not to like.

The building is very modern, stylish and furnished with an amazing taste. The host and the complete staff are very attentive and supported us with great tips for our journey. The room is very spacious and impressive without windows that gives a nice breeze the whole time (there are fly screens and shutters though). The breakfast is in a brunch style with just amazing and tasty dishes. The dishes vary in the mornings and contain fruits, freshly baked bread with homemade jam and butter and different warm meals as well as a dessert. The breakfast is of an outstanding quality served by a very nice staff.

We really loved our one night stay here on the day before Xmas eve. The villa is stunning, such beautiful architectural design inside and the pool. We were also really moved by the reason the property was built - what a lovely idea. We ate dinner and breakfast here. We loved the Sri Lankan breakfast where we met others guests- the food was delicious.

We knew before from reviews but just a heads up the open concept of the building means you can hear all animals throughout the night. It’s not a negative just something to be aware of.

I absolutely loved every bit of the stay at Amma Erna - right from the first meeting with Ann where we sat and just spoke so comfortably (she is a great conversationalist) to the absolutely wonderful architecture, the calmness of the whole place, being woken up by peacocks in the morning, the absolutely incredible Belgian breakfast, the pool, the yoga sessions in the morning, the stunning views from the rooms, the natural lighting, and so many other things. The architecture was partly inspired by Geoffrey Bawa and it is very obvious that there was an extremely high level of attention to detail while building this place. Ann has put in her heart and soul into building and maintaining this place. I stayed only two nights but when I left, it felt like I had stayed there for a week and it felt like I was leaving home. This stay has been the best experience of my entire trip to Sri Lanka. Ann is lovely, and I was lucky to meet her along with Iza and Clarice. They were wonderful hosts. When I come back to Sri Lanka next, the first booking I will be making will be to come back here. I highly recommend staying here for anyone coming to Galle - even if it is 10 minutes or so from the fort area, you will feel so relaxed when you come back after a tiring day.

The only thing I didn't like about the experience at Amma Erna was that I could not stay longer that I had planned for.

Wonderful and very stylish villa with amazing food!!! The villa is very intimate since it is only 3 rooms, and it is secluded in a very quiet area surrounded by greenery, but still a short drive to the city of Galle. The food is unbelievable. We only had breakfast (we regret not having had dinner there too) and it was the best breakfast of our lives! The rooms are big and nicely decorated, with a unique style. There are areas to chill in the villa too, besides tje pool area. They allowed us to do late checkout at no extra cost which we appreciated highly.

There was not a single thing we did not like

Lovely house and amazing outside space with peacock and monkeys. Soft mattress and Great shower but hot water was inconsistent. The breakfast was nice and change everyday. We loved being a bit further away from the very touristy beach area

It's a bit a cold atmosphere as it's only 3 rooms and the staff is very discreet. The big issue was the noise as they were no window. The idea of being wake up by the sound of peacock may sound lovely but in reality it's very annoying also it's in a residential area and there were loud music for 2 night in row.

Absolutely amazing breakfast, kind and profesional service, beautiful nature around the villa. Architecture is quite imposing. Experience of a room with no glass windows, just mosquito nets around the room, makes you feel you are in jungle. Be ready to wake up at 05.00 a.m. with sounds of peacoks, dogs, roosters,…

No water heater in the room (so you cant make a coffee or tea, and the breakfast starts at 09.00), no fridge in the room!!!!, towels in bad condition, some broken inventar… but in total, the experience was ok. Please clean the pool.
