Sonnwendhof is a great place for family visit to Engelberg in summer or winter. It has everything you may possibly need: hearty breakfast (many local products - cheese, jam, honey, bread, juice, etc.), indoor playroom for small children, ski room (if you come for winter holidays), sauna (ready in 15 minutes) and relaxing room, supermarket is 8 min walking distance away, some good restaurants are just around the corner. Titlis funicular is 8 min away by foot, Brunnibahn is 1.5km away and Fürenalp is 5 km. You get Engelberg tourist card, which allows you to use a bus for free and get small discount on funiculars. All ladies working at the hotel are very friendly. We could have had an earlier check in, if we needed it. Free parking is just in front of the hotel.

It could have been a bit cheaper but at the end you pay for the quality.

I stayed 3 nights at Hotel Sonnwendhof (in the summer) and I had an amazing time and would definitely stay again. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, the hotel is located perfectly for walks/hikes/different gondolas up the mountains, and the hotel was very dog friendly, making it the best stay for my pup! The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice, there’s free parking outside the hotel, and my room was cleaned beautifully every day. I had a balcony that overlooked the mountains… perfect for a tea/coffee in the morning. The hotel offer dinner at their sister property, otherwise you’re surrounded by many other restaurants to choose from. I highly highly recommend staying at Hotel Sonnwendhof.. the value for money is excellent.

The bed is comfortable but the pillows are too soft.

We have booked this place for 2 families quite spontaniously. Our stay was a pleasant experience from A-Z. I want to highlight the friendly messages before the stay, the welcome letter on the bed and the mirror, the play room for the kids, the breakfast with smilies on the eggs and the delicious croissants and the exquisite Sauna facility. The location right at the train station is a big plus too. We felt very comfortable and home at Sonnenwendehof. Oh and that I do not forget to mention: The late check out was a real treat. Thanks for this.

The only suggestion that I have is providing a small fridge. Especially traveling with kids, one always carry around snacks that need to be stored appropriately.

The hotel is in a quiet location but very convenient for shops, restaurants & the station. Such a friendly team at the Sonnwendhof, nothing is too much trouble & a fabulous breakfast buffet too. The rooms are spacious & comfortable. We have stayed here before & we’re happy to return

A minor criticism but I got too many emails & messages about my stay. I nearly missed the mail with the link to our guest cards because there were so many other notifications.

We stayed 3 days at Hotel Sonnwendhof and I can definitely recommend it as for a short stay and for a long vacation. The hotel is very well maintained! The people, who work there really care about their customers making them comfortable as home. The room we had was spacious, with a balcony and comfy bed. The hotel has an inside children entertaining room. Breakfast is excellent and oriented for kids as well. It offers many local goods. The restaurant offers a 3 course dinner at St. Josefshaus hotel, which was pretty decent and not expensive. There are a lot of hiking trails around Engelberg including Titlis - 3000 meters above sea level. You can find easy routes with kids and a lot of options for experienced hikers. Coop supermarket is a in a walking distance as well as Engelberg's public pool. And the hotel has its own sauna! We would definitely get back to the hotel another time!

This was a great surprise! We didn't know what to expect, but found this little town to be warm and beautiful and very cool. The property is dated, but the staff was so so kind and welcoming that you feel right at home. The room had a great balcony overlooking the village and the mountains beyond. The staff turned on the sauna for us and we were able to relax in the spa for a while before retreating to our balcony to watch the mist creeping through the mountain peaks. The beds were comfortable and the duvet and sheets and pillows were excellent. The bathroom had a properly deep bathtub, with tons of hot water. The room wasn't large, but had everything we needed. The breakfast was plentiful and had special touches like fresh-squeezed OJ and fresh breads and jams...all served buffet style in a room with more incredible alpine views. We were just passing though, but I imagine if you're there for alpine sports you get even more value for your money as there were lots of services for skiers, etc. The parking was easy, though they do charge extra for it. Overall a great stay and we would definitely return!

Everything in Switzerland feels a little too expensive...and this room was no exception. It was great, but once you add breakfast and parking the already-slightly-more-expensive room becomes a little too much compared to other properties in France and Italy that were in a higher service category. But this might just be more a comment on how expensive Switzerland is, rather than the hotel!

Our room was clean and comfortable. There was a great ski room, complete with boot warmers in the basement, as well as a beautiful sauna room. The highlight of our stay was the warm, welcoming staff and the fantastic breakfast overseen by a super sweet hostess who memorized our morning cappucino/espresso preferences, prepared them in the kitchen and brought them out to us!

The tub/shower was very narrow with a shower curtain. It was quite difficult to avoid having the curtain touch my shoulders, which was a little uncomfortable. However, it was a very minor inconvenience and I was told that they will soon be completely refurbishing all of their bathrooms, so this should not be an issue in the future.

Everything about the hotel is so nice and wonderful starting from the reception specially “Rebecca” , she was so nice and humble and offered great services. The location , room and views from the balcony was excellent. Breakfast was great too

I don’t have anything which I don’t like about the hotel. One of my best stay in last 22 years of travel history.

The location is next to lifts, train station, restaurants. Breakfast was simple but the food was of good quality and the personnel is excellent. The hotel is quiet, has comfy beds, great bathroom with a bathtub and spectacular views! Check out at 12 is very helpful.

There’s nothing I didn’t like. I would just suggest to make eggs to be cooked differently for breakfast from time to time.

Breakfast was great. Location is very strategic as it’s only 3 minutes walk from the train station and the Mt Titlis ticket office is only 7 minutes walk from the hotel. Our room was clean. Beds were clean. Our room has a balcony too facing to the other Alps. And the hotel staff also gave us our takeaway breakfast on the day we checked out.. but including those two coloured boiled eggs in the photo .. thanks to Luzia, Rebecca and the other lady in the kitchen 😇

Perhaps additional pillow as we’re only provided one each and I always love to have 2 pillows
