The hotel is in the village of Gruyère, a walled medieval village that is a popular tourist location in southern Switzerland. The town is lovely, with cobblestone streets, a central fountain, and a fortress castle. The Hotel de Ville and restaurant was one of many along the one Main Street and was high on charm and quaint-ness. It had a small elevator to get our suitcases up to the 2nd floor. The room itself was nice with a comfortable bed and adequate lighting with the street-facing window. But with charm come issues. The street itself is closed at 9:30 AM so that meant hauling your bags up a hill from the parking lot and down across cobblestone street to the hotel. Although we could drive the car in the next morning to load up closer, you then had to remove the car before the street barriers went up at 9:30. There is no way to get hot water for tea in the room. Hot water for showers was not available till 7:30 am.

Location was fabulous. Apartment was spacious and the views from the balcony were spectacular. You were right in the middle of Gruyeres. You open your window at the front of the apartment onto the village below. The shower was great and water pressure wonderful. The lady at the hotel where we checked in was so nice and friendly and busy. The breakfast was a really nice buffet with fruit, cheese of course and many other pleasant food. Lugging our luggage from the parking lot up to the village was a little challenge but nothing too hard to overcome. Cars are allowed into the village at certain times but we arrived out of that time frame. Leaving was easier because we left before 10am when cars can come in to the village

The bed was not comfortable ..ok. it happens one person's comfortable mattress may not be for another but they have to add another pillow. It was such an impediment to a good night's sleep. There is no air conditioning but with the balcony door tilted open( love that you could do that )and the front window open it was cool at night. It was a little noisy but I come from a large family so meh! They might consider adding fans to the rooms in the summer as open windows and doors bring in some flies( not a big problem though) and we were there August 2023. Lots of restaurants, sights souvenir shops etc. to occupy your time and of course sitting in an outdoor Cafe enjoying the beautiful little town is a wonderful experience.

The room (4 - Edelweiss) was beautiful and a lot bigger than it looks in the photos. The four-poster bed was super comfy and carved beautifully. The staff, especially the two young ladies on the evening shift were very friendly and welcoming. The location is as good as it could possibly be! I've always wanted to stay within the medieval part of Gruyere so this was a dream come true.

We really loved our stay! The only things I would mention is the shower head points horizontally in your face which can make showering difficult. And the continental breakfast was a bit basic - I was hoping for some fresh pastries and a fruit salad or something. Unfortunately, I didn't even spot where the bread was!

Super helpful and kind staff who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and supported with our every request. Check-in and out was super easy (in the restaurant - there's no front desk), we actually were able to check-out and pay online with a link they'd sent once we arrived. Clean and comfortable room (ours even had a mini-fridge) in beautiful historic hotel in fantastic location in the heart of Gruyeres village. 2 min walk to castle and museums. Restaurant looked (and smelled!) wonderful though we didn't have time to dine there. Would absolutely stay again! Merci beaucoup to the whole team!

Nothing, it was fabulous! Highly recommend :) Tip for parking though - we were able to pay by app down in the parking lot and it was 10 CHF for overnight (same price that hotel had mentioned in regards to some parking passes being available depending on arrival time), with option to add additional time from your phone if needed. So in my opinion there's no need to walk up to he hotel to get the pass first - just grab a parking spot in one of the 3 lots and pay with the app, then walk a few mins up hill to enter the village (no cars allowed, it's a pedestrian village only). P2 lot had a stair case up to village that made the walk easier, but would recommend leaving large suitcases in car and just bringing what you need. It's worth it - the village is super unique and charming!!

Excelent location, very clean, nice staff. Very new appartment. Everything we needed was included.

Difficult access, not possible to access by car or quite complicated. It is given by the location in the middle of historical village - maybe we just didnt realize in advance. The water from shower didnt drain properly. Quite a pitty for such a nice and new appartment. This is not negative, just comment - it was obvious that the kitchen is not very used. There was missing some sharp knife for cutting, plates didnt fit into washing mashine (it made a noise) but on the other hand there was plenty of wine glasses :-) Later on we realized there is also no food shop in the village so probably guests didnt cook very often.

Centrally located in the old town so perfect for sightseeing. A comfortable and attractive hotel, a lovely room, great restaurant and a good breakfast provided you arrive early. Latecomers faced a lack of choice in basic items such as bread and meats and all the croissants had gone.

This hotel is not suitable for anyone who cannot carry their luggage uphill for some distance. Cars are not alllowed in town and there is no possibility to drop off luggage. All parking is at some distance and involves a steep climb. Realistically the only option is to drop off one passenger as close as possible, leave them to carry the luggage for the 100m to the hotel and let the driver go to find a parking space which is not easy in high season. To avoid having to make two trips to the hotel, one to get the reduced price parking permit, the other to return to the hotel, could the hotel arrange to email parking permits ahead of arrival?

Excellent location in the centre of this medieval town and walking distance of all main tourist attractions. Good size bedroom with views over the surrounding landscape. Comfortable bed. Great restaurant for breakfast and dinner!! Very helpful staff including the owners. Car can be taken outside hotel to unload and load luggage and a parking permit is given by reception for CHF10 per day to park the car outside the town. Car park 1 is 400 yds from hotel, the other car parks a little longer walk. Photo shows hotel on the right by the white van !!

Nothing!!

Our room was incredibly spacious and offered a breathtaking view of the mountains. The hotel is perfectly situated in a great location.

While the room itself was spacious and had a stunning mountain view, I encountered an issue with the shower's sliding doors, which didn't close properly. I ended up checking out a day earlier than planned. I understand the policy of paying for the full stay, but it would have been appreciated if the hotel could have offered a partial discount.

There are not many options in Gruyere - this is a hotel on top of a restaurant but it was very quiet at night and we had a good and comfortable sleep. the room was simple and basic but very clean and the shower had very powerful and strong hot water. the heating in the room was also very good. met all our expectations for a one night stay discounted parking available for CHF 10 for 24 hours staff were very friendly and welcoming good free wifi was available location was right in the middle of the old town gruyere, lovely and picturesque place to stay in

there is not much sound insulation in the morning so you will be awoken around 8am when other guests leave their rooms. However, not an issue if you plan to wake up at a normal time

Large spacious room, including a very comfortable coach that looked brand new. Huge TV screen. A small bar fridge that actually cooled really well (unlike most we have had in Europe). The downstairs restaurant had really tasty food with local dishes. Central location in small hilltop village. A small lift was very useful.

No air conditioning. Noise from the local restaurants at night (but this would be the same in all accommodation in this small village). No in-room safe.
