Smaller quiet resort just on the beachfront. Nice and perfectly cleaned rooms every single day. Friendly and all the time smiling staff that is very helpful. The beds were comfortable and the housekeeping came every evening to spray the room and prepare the mosquito nets. I was afraid of the breakfasts and diners based on some reviews but it wasn't as bad, it was actually pretty good considering you don't come too late when everything is eaten. For breakfast there were several kinds of bakery, nutella, jam, etc. salami and cheese missing but we did not mind. Diner is a starter, main course you can choose from 3 options and a desert and 1 drink is free. The hotel organized airport transfer even though we came and left at odd times (2AM and 3AM). Nice pool area to relax when the tide takes the sea away.

The biggest disappointment was the pool bar. I can accept language barrier but even if we showed several times what we want, they brought us something else and usually in very slow pace. By the time she prepared 4 ice creams the first one was already melted. And this happened several times during our stay. Considering the girl had just few orders a day she could focus more and make sure she gets the order right. I had once a banana vanilla smoothie and it wasn't tasty at all so I recommend to stick to fresh juices. Occasionally there is a problem with ravens from the beach. They come to dining area and sit above you and may eventually poop on you or the table. The first morning was really disgusting, the other days was quite ok.

We arrived around 4 AM and they gave us temporary room so we could take a shower and rest. We also appreciated that the hotel provides towels for both beach and shower. Dinner was served in two ways. Some days you could pick from a prepared menu (started, main course, desert) and twice a week they served freshly grilled swahili dinner as a buffet. There was a security guy all day so we were not afraid to leave our things on sunbeds.

During high tide the you could not walk on the beach in front of the hotel and all the sellers were walking close to the hotel sunbeds and trying to sell you something. It was annoying but there is probably nothing the hotel can do about. Just be prepared for that.

Nice private beach! Plenty of sun or shade and lounge chairs. Just 8-10 stairs to get to the ocean. Beautiful spot to watch sunset! Breakfast and dinner were included in my booking. All of the meals were delicious. I was also happy that breakfast opened early enough for me to enjoy before going scuba diving. I also recommend the spa, the massages were enjoyable and very reasonably priced.

During booking, I didn't realize that the hotel is dry. The staff were friendly and showed us where to buy alcohol. We brought some back to the hotel to enjoy during sunset and meals. There is a hotel right next door and plenty of other places nearby to also go out for drinks.

-good location at quieter part of Nungwi but still near to center of Nungwi village - room was good location and not many rooms so it’s pretty relaxed and quiet - beach is good not like Kendwa but for Nungwi quite good - sunbeds give you some privacy as beachboys cannot enter the hotel so it’s relatively relaxed. Beach boys still yell in from the beach and try to solicite but at least they cannot enter - reception kind and polite - hotel feels safe - you can lay in your sunbed at the hotels land and see, enjoy plublic beach

- breakfast and dinner are very limited not very good at all - for some reason they turn off the music during breakfast and dinner /after breakfast and dinner they turn it on again/ it’s not so nice to sit there and not have music during meals - no alcohol served - restaurant staff not very smiling and not very attentive, kind of bored - table cloths /even if dirty/ only changed if you ask for it /and probably tip a bit as usual in in Zanzibar/ - beach boys yelling in to address you from the beach /at least they cannot enter/ - service in the hotel is pretty bored not enthusiastic at all - it’s not 4 star but an okay 3 star accommodation in our view

The hotel is located in an excellent location with direct access to the beach and with a lovely swimming pool. Along the beach, there are several restaurants from which you can choose a variety of foods. We especially enjoyed Mama Mia. Swimming with dolphins at Mnemba island was the highlight of my trip and the sunsets are just breathtaking so book the sunset dhow which has a lively band onboard.

The breakfast was below par for the price point. Not enough varieties of proteins at breakfast, and they couldn't even provide proper sausages!! Also, the beach boys are so ANNOYING!! Make sure you have enough cash with you, so many establishments don't take credit or debit cards. It took almost 30 minutes to find an ATM which charged me exorbitantly to withdraw some money. Please have plenty of dollars in single bills and Tanzania shillings. Also, the hotel doesn't sell alcohol

The hotel (5 houses) is right on the beach, all rooms face the sea and have a beautiful view. Sunsets here are amazing. In front of the houses there is a pool and a private section with sunbeds and nice big sun shade umbrellas, with a fence around, so the beach boys could not go all the way to you, but sometimes they were still annoying. Since there are only a few rooms, it was pretty quiet and peaceful. We usually had the whole pool and beach to ourselves (perks of travelling in shoulder season - June). The breakfast was good, you could take anything from the buffet and eggs were made on request. The dinner was also good, you were able to choose from 2 starters, 3 main dishes and 2 desserts every evening and they changed the menu every time. Usually it was one dish with seafood, one with meat and one vegetarian. They do not serve alcohol, but the soft drinks at the dinner were free. They make your mosquito net and spray your room every evening. The bedroom and bathroom were big, we were staying in the superior room. The low tide here is less apparent in comparison to Jambiani, but it think it's good to experience it both.

A general thing to keep in mind - the sun sets around 6:30pm all year round on Zanzibar, so once it is dark, you can only chill in the hotel, since it is not advised to walk in the dark. The hotel sadly had no theme evenings or entertainment, so it's up to you, how you spend your evenings. But therefore it is still perfect, if you want to truly relax.

The place looks like the pictures and the location is lovely! The beach is very beautiful and at high tide you can enter the ocean straight from the hotel’s beach. It felt very safe as vendors or people from outside didn’t enter the hotel’s beach so we felt comfortable leaving our belongings on the sun beds. The food choices were very good and varied. There was also a shower that we were able to use after checkout so we appreciated the service. Overall we had a good experience!

Wifi connection wasn’t the most stable, it was difficult to get signal in the rooms. Given the amount of stars, would have been nice to get some more toiletries in the bathroom such as toothpaste or some body lotions. We only had soap and shampoo with body wash. Not a big issue, but just a point of improvement.

Еverything about the hotel was great. The staff was extremely kind, welcoming and responsive. The rooms were clean, spacious, cleaned and towels changed every day. We really liked the location of the hotel and the view of the ocean from the rooms. The food was sufficient and tasty. The fact that they don't offer alcohol is no problem for people who would like it, as there is a bar 200m away in the hotel next door, as well as in other bars and hotels around. The tides that sometimes flood the beach are not a problem either, the hotel is on a higher level with a sandy area with sunbeds, umbrellas and a pool which were great. On the day of departure from the hotel, after vacating the room by 10 am, you can leave your luggage until the flight time, as well as use everything in the hotel. Our flight was at 9.40pm and it was a great relief for us to have our day without worrying about luggage. We had a great 10 days and would recommend the hotel to friends and would happily return. Thank you Smiles Beach Hotel!

breakfast was exactly the same every day, which isn't much of a problem

Small nice hotel directly at the sea. The room was big, the bathroom with tub (ok, that was a bit irritating) and shower also big enough. Comfortable desk chairs in front of the door , like a patio , overlooking the sea were very nice. Having water cooker, coffee and a fridge was quite decent. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Rooms get a good clean in the morning and another good soul comes in the evening to pack the bed in the mosquito net. Laundry does a great job and the front desk guys are helpful. The breakfast is not middleuropean, but with fresh fruit, omelette and Lokal dishes sufficient and tasty. And the view of the sea is great. The sea should be mentioned. There is a high tidal range here, which can vary greatly depending on the day. Sometimes you go straight into the sea from a staircase, sometimes you have to wade in a few steps until you can swim. There is also seaweed in varying quantities...- but well, it's just nature. The pool is nice to hang out in. At the pool bar you can get delicious juices, alcohol is not available here. But there is enough food and drink in the area. You can also leave the beach and walk into the village. fun fact: beds are rather short, if you are above 1.75cm. changed direction 90 degree - perfect. Minor problems have been solved without discussion. Laundry service works well. Surrounding is a pretty beach where you have water taxi, fishermen, diving, bars and restaurants in walking distance. Great. Be aware, that there is only one ATM in the whole north and people often don’t like cards (disrupting their business, well). The hotel accept credit card, though. Conclusion: We found it just right for us and our 2 week relaxing stay with diving and some exploring and are happy to recommend it to others. Disclaimer: We are seasoned traveller, been every continent besides Arctica/Antartica. Not the first stay in Africa. Rating always in relation to local market & price.

Two things to improve: - internet is somewhat instable and slow. For casual usage ok. If you need to do business, a bit tricky. Bars/Restaurants arround have stable WiFi. - Restaurant is more focussed on the all-in bookings and receive the price as the slowest on the beach. A new waiter dud try to improve sone stuff in the last days.
