The room was big and the bed very comfy. I liked the decor and paintings througout the hotel. Breakfast was really good and plenty of it. The terasse on top floor was a wonderfull place to hang out and chill. The location behind Victoria Garden and surrounded by trees, makes it feel like a little oasis in the middle of the buzzing city. At night you can hear the bushbabies play in the trees. Very easy to get around Stone Town from here. Somebody said there was no plug for the sink - I asked for a bucket to rinse my clothes in - problem solved!
Everything is a bit dated and worn - which makes it very authentic and fits in pergectly with the city

Everything is a little bit dated and worn. It makes it feel very authentic and fit in perfectly with the rest of the city.

Historic building, beautiful. Owner Dawid very friendly and good. He fulfilled all my requests, also gave many valuable tips about the city and trips, ordered taxis for us at a good price and there were no problems. Like a real African brother and guide. I highly recommend this safe and good place. You will not regret it.
Everything was fine. I have no complaints about the facilities that David and his team run.

I really like this property of many reasons. It’s got character and it’s location is perfect. A bit away from the hazzle and buzzle of the city center, but still very close to everything. There’s a very secure ATM machine nearby, walking distance to the ocean, many nice restaurants and cafes, including an Ethiopian restaurant and a very good bakery, the post office and also to the Forodhani park or to the Darajani market. Everything is nearby, still this very area is a bit quiet and beautiful with the hospital nearby and the park just outside…the breakfast was healthy and good, good service by very nice polite kind and helpful staff. The management is excellent on guard 24/7. The style of the place is a little bit unusual with a very personal touch of mixing cultures, African art together with contemporary art. All in all a very good place to stay, even for a bit longer stay, it almost became like home for us
Don’t want to complain about anything because the property is well kept and clean, and if something goes wrong, the management together with the rest of the crew are very quick to fix things. Also it’s an old house and what has happened to the house is only normal for houses that get old in Africa. Yet this is being in control

Great breakfast of fruit, eggs, toast, pancake, coffee and smoothie. Staff nice. We arrived late at night, it’s down a dark side street which was a bit disconcerting but there is a staff member outside to meet your taxi and see you in. Decent location on the edge of the action, 10 minute walk to market.
The shower head wasn’t connected to the wall so had to hand hold (not a big deal really). Poorly lit street on arrival late at night (but it’s Zanzibar, not unusual)

I like the property very much of many reasons. It’s location is very good, close to everything. There’s an ATM machine nearby, the ocean of course (very important!) many good restaurants and cafes, the post office, even a very good bakery…it’s walking distance from everything but still not in the middle of the city center. It’s a bit run down at places, but still very well kept with a lot of charm. The room was big with enough space for everything…good healthy breakfast and good service. Very good management and the rest of the crew or staff are equally nice polite kind helpful. The property has got its own personal touch when it comes to a mix of African art and contemporary art, a very nice a little bit unusual combination of things…all in all a very positive memory of Stonetown.
A bit run down and what happens to old buildings especially in Africa, but the upkeep is very good and if something is not working, you only have to tell the management and it’s being sorted immediately. The beds were a little bit hard but nothing to complain about, especially not for such a short stay

This is an olde worldly hotel with lots of character, African artefacts and paintings on the walls. It was quiet at night. The breakfast was next door, just take an umbrella in case of sudden shower even for short distance. Lovely fresh fruit cereal toast, choice of how you want your eggs cooked. David was very helpful and advised local restaurant etc. I personally recommend Ethiopian restaurant 10 minutes walk away from hotel. Non alcoholic. Lovely views from Verandah of gardens. Wi-Fi in communal room upstairs. Mosquito net provided around bed.
Nothing not to like. Just be advised that if doing personal laundry it may take up to 3 days to dry due to humidity.

I like the fact that it’s so close to everything, both to the beach, restaurants, cafes, small local shops and even a very good bakery, ATM machine just a walking distance away. At the same time it’s a bit off from the huzzle and buzzle of the city center. It’s cosy and quiet with a little bit of green area nearby as well. The property itself is nicely decorated, with a special personal touch on everything and the staff are very friendly kind polite and helpful

I like the location of the property. It’s close to everything, an ATM machine, the ocean, shops, restaurants, cafes, even a bakery…it’s walking distance from everything, yet not in the middle of everything. It’s beautiful, nice surroundings a bit quiet yet very good location. Nicely decorated, with a personal touch of a mix of old and new, African art with a slightly European touch of style. Very authentic in its own way…
