The room and the hotel was absolutely amazing, the evening meal and breakfast were superb and the staff were as helpful and friendly as they could be

No Parking can be reserved in the square so had to park in carpark 5mins walk away. There was a fight between the locals which kicked off whilst we headed down to dinner. One man in the bar was rude, provocative and trying to wind up a man who was just having a pint. They went outside in the end and fought 'out of the way of the CCTV' he commented. They returned to the bar and one man was bleeding BUT there were only 2 woman on site at that time. It wasnt acceptable or safe at all. The person in question should be barred, what ever is happening in his personal life we shouldnt have to see or feel unfortable with the situation accuring when we have paid to stay with you. It unfortunately has stopped us ever considering staying with you again, which is really sad.

Wonderful short notice winter walking break as a couple, competitively priced. We particularly appreciated the location of this intimate hotel: a beautiful, quiet, friendly and historic small market town, well placed for stunning Mendips walks and easy access to A roads to explore further afield. Excellent breakfast with good choice. Hotel itself was quiet and comfortable; Natasha was very welcoming, and staff were responsive to queries. Our room was very quiet as requested (looking over the back of the hotel rather than the main square). We hope to return!

1. We were a bit disappointed that the downstairs seating and bar area were locked at 10 or 10.30 pm (it is a very quiet time of year for them). We had hoped for an area to sit to read / work later in the evening. 2. We always managed to find a space in the convenient nearby town car park (free), but were surprised how full it was at all times even in February. (There is also a little short stay and overnight parking in the square outside the hotel, and unrestricted on street parking a little further away).

We stayed in room number one (standard room) overlooking the square. Although the room was a little tired it was comfortable, clean and had a small fridge which was really handy. Location is perfect and there is free parking very near by. The staff was very friendly and it has a bar/ restaurant area plus outside seating in the square. They had a limited daily menu for the restaurant which is reasonable priced. We had a burger and a chilli which was very nice. Breakfast was delicious and there was something for everyone excellent menu. We would definitely stay again.

The bedroom was a little dated and furniture a bit of a mixture. Would have been great to have two chairs in the room as it was a good size.

Alex and team were brilliant right from the start and couldn’t do enough for us. We were there for a funeral and they all treated us, and the other part of our family who arrived later, with empathy. They were very friendly and welcoming, (as were the locals). The breakfasts were excellent. The beds were extremely comfortable too. Good that there was a fridge in the room, which contained a bottle of still and a bottle of sparkling water.

Tea/coffee facilities in the rooms. We were only left 1 pot of semi skimmed milk and 7 pots of full fat milk. We were even left 1 empty pot! We also weren’t left any biscuits. These are very small things, I know.

Stayed there before. . Lovely rooms. Lovely, crisp white sheets!! Tea, coffee and biscuits. Staff very friendly. Great choice of breakfast and superb. In a lovely Square, two pubs, co op, chemist. Nice walks Recommended

The pillows were very soft (for me) but that's just a personal choice. I prefer a firm pillow. The heating was on in one of the radiators and it was stiffling hot at night. I couldn't turn it off. There was a fan but still I didn't get too much sleep as it was far too hot. I did mention it to a member of staff and was told it would be seen to but sadly it never happened. Hasn't put me off staying there again I love it

The staff were great and fantastic helped us with all our needs . There was plenty of room in the bar and restaurant area two. The ladies and gentleman's toilets clean and tidy . The food menu had plenty of choices at Great value ! I love the whiskey at £25 a shot . My girlfriend wasn't impressed with me with this . But we had a great time . Fantastic room ! Clean and tidy also came with a fridge . Plenty of hot water and cleaning tidy bathroom. The bed was very lovely to sleep in with clean linen and pillow cases . Tea and coffee in the room with fresh milk . The coffee machine was a capsule never seen one of these in their bedroom before made my girlfriend's day . We were allowed to take drinks from the bar back to our room . When we are passing near we will certainly popping again and say hi to the lovely staff and pub !! 🙂

What a lovely place to stay. We stopped over for one night and we're glad to have struck gold. Feels more of a pub than than a hotel and is right on the town square. The lady running reception and the bar was very welcoming and helpful We felt very comfortable in the well appointed room and were pleased that the rooms were quiet. Being an historic building the walls were thick so we and our dog had a good night's sleep. We decided to have dinner in the hotel. The dining area is informally in the bar . We were delighted to have lovely restaurant quality meals rather than standard pub fare and lovely deserts so thy obviously have a good chef. Choice of wine was good and interesting. Breakfast was served by a friendly member of staff called Tracy. There was plenty of choice and the full English British breakfast was the best I have had for many years with beautifully cooked field mushrooms . Limited parking outside the hotel if available, but there is a free town car park a short walk away . Lovely historic village to visit . All in all would definitely recommend the Oak House and hope to repeat the experience in the future.

Not much really. Good experience was had by all

The staff were wonderful, so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The oak house is set in a beautiful medieval town ,just perfect for a quiet stay. The breakfast menu is vast, is cooked beautifully, and tastes wonderful

There was nothing major that we didn't like, just a small snag list. Silly things like a light bulb missing from the chandelier, a rip along the back of the screen window cover, the curtains weren't entirely on the runner, paint chips here and there. So nothing that spoiled our wonderful stay, just little attention to detail things.

We had a room overlooking the town square, crisp white linen, fresh towels and plenty of room for the dogs. I loved the shabby chic looking furniture and vintage mottled effect mirrors! Also the small touches like body wash, lotions and sewing kit provided. Tea and coffee making facilities replenished daily. Friendly and helpful staff made our stay a relaxing and enjoyable experience!

The only reason this hotel did not get a ten out of ten was decorating maintenance. The walls could do with a touch up and a couple of new rugs wouldn't go amiss.

Excellent facilities, food executed very well - and generally brilliant value for money.

The only thing that stopped me giving a rating of 10 was that a couple of things advertised on the menu weren't presented as such. Specifically the Chicken and Chorizo Caesar salad had NO chorizo and the salmon and egg on sourdough was actually on sliced bread that was not sourdough. This should have been explained beforehand (unless they were just errors of course) as it might have changed our choices. But overall still a fantastic place to stay and eat.
