Lovely place for a stopover to explore the nearby countryside and villages. We needed a place that took dogs, and this one does. Felt looked after well by the staff. Lovely meals and lovely breakfast with a great selection of choices for both. Lovely big room with plenty of facilities and a large bath (welcome after walking on the windy moors). Great bar area with roaring fire and excellent service separate spaces to sit quietly in lovely room with pool table to chill. Lovely outside area at the back for when the weather is good

There were a lot of reminders to keep the sheets and towels clean and dogs off all furniture even with blankets, that for someone like me, made me a little paranoid and less settled. I understand the concern, but it felt a little heavy-handed. Having said that, everything else was really lovely and would definitely recommend.

The staff were courteous and friendly. And welcomed our dog as much as they did us. The food was excellent. Although it initially requires some walking along a very busy and fast moving A628, once you reach and follow the bridle path towards Langsett Reservoir, you will see some stunning scenery. Our dog certainly enjoyed her walks that day (but due to her "inquisitive" nature had to remain on the lead)

The bedroom was too hot for sleeping conditions (22degC according to the thermostat) and cannot be adjusted to individual preferences, because all bedrooms are connected to one large underfloor heating system. Even after the UFH turned off for the night and with the window cracked wide open it took a long time to get it to a more reasonable temperature.

Sat nav doesn’t take you to the pub, but to a sign that tells you how to get there! Friendly welcome and fires burning…rugby match on, so we had a pint and watched that before moving to a table reserved in the bar for dinner. Great food, home cooked with exceptional game sausages! They were so good! I was expecting to be let down by breakfast sausages as many places cut corners, but they were proper sausages, butcher/homemade style. 10/10 for breakfast- only complaint that butter is better than spread! Room was peaceful, warm, clean and comfortable with more than enough room for our furry family member! Was expecting to hear road noise as the pub is in the main a road between Barnsley and Manchester, but so peaceful….not a sound! Nice to have facilities for a brew and biscuits supplied too! The staff are friendly, smiley and work so hard! Nothing was too much trouble and I would recommend this place without question.

Would like butter with toast instead of spread at breakfast…but everything else was 💯

Breakfast was really nice, we had the cooked option and was lovely. Fresh Orange juice on the table and lovely pot of tea. Service was good and friendly we have stayed here before, so i must recommend

I didn't realise i hadn't paid for the dogs, i think this is more booking.com then the hotel, as it thought i had paid for it all. Rooms were a little cold, hotel is high up and all underfloor heating which was locked at 18. So i would ask staff if you are chilly, we didn't realise where the heating was till the morning.

Extremely comfortable bed, had the best nights sleep for a long time. Huge spacious bedroom with super large four poster. Cosy pub with roaring fire. Breakfast was superb, quality ingredients and piping hot. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Conveniently placed midway between Manchester and Sheffield.

Absolutely nothing. Only small negative to note was the single use plastic miniature bottles of shower gel, shampoo etc. Hate those things, would prefer to see a pump style dispenser on the wall.

The Dog and Partridge was above expectations. A first class country Inn. A typical country inn bar with a good selection of beers. The main menu selection was excellent. The main meal was first class and well presented. The Bedroom and on suite were well decorated, absolutely spotless and comfortable. The staff were most helpful, friendly and polite. I had a full Yorkshire breakfast that was excellent. Fantastic 360 degree views of the countryside.

There was nothing whatsoever to Dislike.

The breakfast was very good with lots of options. A large bottle of orange juice on each table and fresh tea and coffee, all served to the guests. Much better than self-service. My only minor dislike was the spread for toast. I prefer butter. The hotel's location is stunning with far reaching views. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. And all areas were spotlessly clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and wouldn't hesitate to return. Highly recommend! Thank you. Jan.

Dairy spread instead of butter. Other than that - FAULTLESS! Well done all.

Food was well presented and tasty, breakfast very good, lots of options, inc veg and gf. Staff very friendly and helpful, nice decor and ambience good, free parking. Room decor good and plenty of space , tea coffee facility in room, even a rocking chair.

BedRoom ventilation via large porthole window, if left open a lot of road noise. Bedhead very noisy creaky needed tightening up. Pillows uncomfortable. Bed mattress comfy enough.

Lovely pub a little remote but nice views

Bathroom a bit dated shower either scalding hot or cold spent more time trying to get it to a reasonable temperature no blind over sky light window wide awake at 4am with sunlight beaming in and for Breakfast I like a hearty breakfast so 1 small sausage 1 mushroom 2 small rashers of bacon and 1 egg didn’t really fill me up (I did ask for sausages and eggs plural both days but got singular 😥

Really stand-out service. Not like the fake or forced smiles and service you get in a lot of hotels, we were met with a team that genuinely looked after us. From the sandwiches they’d made for us when they knew we’d be too late arriving to eat in the restaurant, to actually being shown to our room (when was the last time that happened) to the sausage they cooked for the dog in the morning at breakfast… Really, genuinely good.

Nothing.
