He staff were really lovely, and made us feel really welcome, helping also with ideas of walks. The grounds and building itself are just breathtaking. We walked along to Hinkley Hollow. Food was fab, catered for myself well (coeliac). And it was just amazing to be in the middle of all this beauty. My boys loved the ping pong and the choice of board games.
The bedaide lights didnt work. And the menu showed the pepperobi pizza as being £10.95 however we were charged £10.95 and the a + £2 for pepperoni, which made no sense as the margherita was £9.95. It all goes into the place but incase someone was on a tight budget worth checking.

Having visited ILam when I was 10 years old it was wonderful to return to the happy memories I've held dear for many years ( I'm now 49 ) Met up with a dear friend and enjoyed a trip to Ashbourne followed by a relaxing evening sitting in the grounds of Ilam Hall drinking wine and catching up. The food was lovely. Simple but filling and tasty. Staff were amazing and the other guests were of all ages with a lovely friendly but not invasive feel. For some I can imagine it would be rather basic but when you consider the beautiful surroundings and the fact that you are staying in a historical building in a stunning part of the country for very little money it makes the whole experience unique and affordable. One I will repeat again and again. I highly recommend a visitor.
I loved everything about this place. I honestly can't fault it.

The Gothic mansion looked amazing inside and outside , beautiful grounds staff were very friendly and welcoming to us while staying here . Great that they have a bar behind reception serving drinks and different rooms to relax in with your drinks, a nice restaurant too and the woman who served us was very nice. I will definitely be staying here again when visiting alton towers it is only 9 miles away from theme park. I would recommend visiting YHA llam Hall it has to be seen to experience how nice the place and staff are.
Nothing to not like it was a very nice stay, shame it was only for 1 night ,we didn't want to leave. The shower water would of been nicer if it was a little hotter though it was only warm and maybe a tv in the private rooms ? Everyone and everything else was perfect.

Just spent a solo weekend away at YHA Ilam Hall. My first time in a UK YHA. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay in the beautiful Peak District. I had the best time, everyone was so welcoming and helpful. The location is of course perfect for the walks of Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud. Was very muddy across the public footpath walk to the stepping stones but just what I needed to relax and unwind. I recommend the Tissington Trail, sausage roll from The Old Dog pub, beautiful Bakewell and Sir Philip bitter. Already planning my next stay so I can do the Monsal Trail. Thank you for a lovely weekend.

Try to stay in Ilam hall at least 2 times a year as I have fond memories going back a long time when I lived a lot nearer than I do now. Most of all I like the YHA and surrounding countryside that is on the doorstep, each time I visit I have a slightly different experience.
I have to say, for me there's not a lot not to like at Ilam hall. I am familiar with the YHA from many previous visits over the years. If anything it would be nice to have better internet connection but in some ways it's also good to be isolated from all that in the Deak District.

Plenty of parking, rooms was clean and spacious, beds were comfy, showers and toilets were lovely, communal area was a great bonus area, evening meal and breakfast were beautiful. The walking routes we were doing incorporated ilam hall so was perfect starting point for us. Grounds are beautiful and staff were amazing. Just an all round lovely stay. Basic but comfortable.
Dinner was a little pricey but with the cost of a stay being so low I didn't mind.

I absolutely loved the grounds and great value for money. Most likely book this place again!
Personally I haven't had much experience staying at a hostel but my partner has and was very impressed. For me, the price we paid for the room matched our expectation. If the room was improved then I'd be happy to pay slightly more for a better quality room and that would improve my experience. e.g comfortable mattress, extra pillow etc

Beautiful property, stunning location in the Peak District, we stayed one night after visiting Alton Towers, was so relaxing and peaceful after the craziness of the day. We had a lovely evening meal the kids loved the pizza, there was also self catering kitchen if you wanted to bring your own food. Really loved friendly staff, helpful gave us some great ideas for walks so we could go to explore the next day, great location perfect for families, gorgeous views from our bedroom window. Really comfortable beds

The building and grounds were beautiful, the staff very friendly, plenty facilities to use. Catering side excellent. Beds comfy and bathroom/showers great.
Lack of phone signal, however we were pre warned of this so not too much of an issue. Would have liked two cards for our room as my husband wanted to go off and explore but that meant my daughter and I couldn't go out of room or the lounge etc until he was back as couldn't call to allow us access.
