If you're looking to visit the Welsh countryside, we can highly recommend The Draen. The bed was cosy, the breakfast delicious (& came with various options) and our host was more than welcoming. Overall, a very pleasant experience in a scenic environment!

A car is recommended, but if you're willing to sacrifice some flexibility, exploring the region on foot and via bus is absolutely possible. The next stop is about 30 minutes away, which is the only real downside - but if you intend to go hiking anyway, not much of a deterrent in our eyes.

I've stayed at the Draen multiple times and that speaks volumes in itself. Sue is always super friendly and goes out of her way to cater to your every need. Breakfasts are hearty and the room I invariably choose is a good size with a lovely big shower & a very comfortable bed; just perfect following a long day walking / sightseeing. The property is also very quiet. The bonus of course is the dark sky at night and stunning views over to the Black Mountains - no light pollution in this area so be prepared for a 3D sky display of billions of sharply faceted stars. I'm a photographer and I've taken some amazing night imagery and timelapses from the lane just up from the B&B. Thanks Sue for a lovely stay. :-)

Nothing at all - there is a long single track lane up to the property, but I've only once ever found myself having to reverse a bit for an oncoming vehicle.

Sue is a gem; she made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. Johnny’s breakfasts were unforgettable - top quality ingredients and extremely generous portions, cooked to a turn. Thank you both. Highly recommended.

We had lovely room with a large bathroom, all recently redecorated and very clean. We’d have liked a hand shower attachment in the bath and a towel rail, but otherwise a perfect stay.

The host was so lovely and provided plenty of suggestions for activities and hikes, location is super isolated which was perfect for star gazing. Breakfast was out of this world with daily forms to fill out what's on your plate. The food was such high quality and all locally sourced of course. There was an additional private room where food was served and an entire wall of DVDs which was great entertainment for the evenings. Me and my partner had the best time getting away from city life and we cant wait to go again

Honestly no improvements, can't recomend enough

The fresh made breakfast was worth the value alone! The bed and room was quaint and comfy. Sue was so kind. We got there later than expected and she was very understanding. She has multiple tables set up so you do not have to eat with other people (just makes it more comfortable and less awkward for us introverts). The view was fantastic and her two doggos greeting us when we walked out and allowing us to give them a pet through the fence was a cherry on top.

The road leading in wasn't great, but that's UK country road typical.

Sue was a great host. The breakfast was really lovely and set us up nicely for the day. Each room had a private place for breakfast rather than all guests together in one room. We had the Rose suite and it was such a bonus to have the private lounge to use. The bedroom was spacious with ample storage space and a lovely en suite room. Everywhere was clean and well presented.

Having to leave after a delightful stay!

The location was set in beautiful countryside. We had our breakfast in the conservatory, and a heater was added to make sure we stayed warm. The breakfast was excellent. And lovely to hear the bird song as we ate. Sue our host gave us the address of a local pub to eat at for our evening meal. We were kept topped up with Tea/coffee milk in our room. Our stay was the family room, it was plenty large enough, and lovely and warm. There was a modern bathroom off the bedroom with a spacious shower. And all was spot less. We had a wonderful time, our host couldn’t of been more helpful.

The bed was really comfortable. We had a nice bath after our day at the Royal Welsh Show and slept like babies. Highlight was the yummy breakfast. It filled us up for the whole day. . Went out for dinner to the Black Cock. Food was good but they stop taking orders at about 8pm!

All good for me. Might have liked a shower option if staying longer than 2 nights

Jayne and I have stayed in many great places over the last couple of years, but after our recent stay, The Draen B&B is our favourite. The location is beautiful, the room was fantastic and we even had our own personal sitting room. Sue (our host) was friendly and she helped to make our stay as close to perfect as it could possibly be.

We were sad to go!

breakfast was excellent and generous. My son and I were there to go hiking and we needed no lunch. Just filled our water bottles, and headed to routes recommended to us by our hostess.

There was a lower shelf under one shelf to put one small carry on. the other carry on suitcase had to sit on the floor, a second self under the other shelf would help. Also, the single bed that sits by the door, a small open box type shelf above the bed somewhere to put a small bottle of water for night drinking would help.
