Cannot fault for food and cleanliness. Like many older properties the maintenance is a constant challenge.. eg toilet roll holder badly attached and falling off, broken window pane in bedroom temporary fixing. The stairs, narrow and steep were a challenge not expected. There was a stairlift to the first floor. Safety was good with key opening doors to each floor. Parking is first come first served at back of property.limited. Friday nights disco until 2 am. I had been informed prior to visit and it did not invade my room on the top floor with my earplugs! Staff very friendly and keen to help. First impressions of this high street hotel were a bit daunting for a lone female traveller as entrance bar and restaurant male drinkers dominated. No help with luggage to top floor up those stairs either. However I found the whole experience very good...thankyou.

If had known stairs so steep with no help I probably would have booked elsewhere

It was late and I was stuck for a room but I managed to find this little gem. It was a good few miles out from my location but it had a public transport link that's virtually on its door step so everything came together nicely. The price I got the room was an absolute bargain and I was very happy during my stay. The staff were super friendly and even more so for breakfast in the morning. I had a nice selection of channels to watch on the TV in my room and everything I required was provided for. I don't have any negatives to list on this place at all.

Location right in town centre on main street. Downside is that the town hall is directly opposite, and this rings an automated bell every hour day and night, plus chimes. I got used to it and by the third night managed to sleep without many breaks. Breakfast nicely cooked to order. I noticed a stairlift for guests who might need assistance getting up and down the stairs.

Never managed to get the TV working. The first night the remote was not working, I got that swapped on the second day. The lights were showing on TV, Sky box and Sky remote, but no picture or sound. Router iffy and had to be switched off and on to get a signal; it was outside my room so I could do it and that worked on the second day.

The Phoenix is dated but the price is reasonable and the staff are friendly and helpful. The wifi was reliable and free and the pub was welcoming and provided good old fashioned meals. It is very much a working person’s hotel and there were several tradespeople there and I liked that. It wasn’t the Ritz but doesn’t pretend to be.

It would be nice if the room I had contained a table and chair, there was room for both, and I couldn’t manage to tune the TV and in the end gave up as I’m not fussed about TV anyway. The meals were good and the service excellent, the only thing I’d suggest is the beans they use for breakfast be replaced by a different brand as the brand they did use was bland. If the toilet on the first floor had a light switch I could not find it but experience has taught me to carry a torch in my backpack.

Very well located on main street close to the bus stops and facilities. Hearty breakfast cooked on request, local foods. On bus routes to Axminster and Lyme Regis which can be visited in one day. Tea and coffee provided in room.

Located just across street from Guildhall clock which tells the hour and quarters, hard to sleep.

The location couldn't have been better and the various breakfast options were very good and cooked to order. My bedroom was well appointed with ample supplies of towels, toiletries and bedding. The bed was comfortable, too, resulting in a good night's sleep.

Nothing really

Great location, large room, really friendly staff, good breakfast. Secure parking. Staff checked with us on arrival that we were aware of the disco with it being a Friday night, though we couldn't really hear it in our room anyway.

Bed was a little firm for our taste. Little toilet roll in the bathroom but had we have asked we would have been given some more no problem. The period sash windows don't block much noise from the street but that's to be expected in a period building.

Breakfast was excellent, was asked what we wanted and that is what we were served. Well cooked and very nice. Also hadn't realised at the time of booking that I hadn't stipulated that we wanted an ensuite. They were able to accommodate this request on arrival.

The building looked a little "tired" but considering the age of the property they keep it very clean.

Excellent staff and friendly atmosphere, beds were comfy and heard no distruptions through night. Beds were well presented with a towel per guest and a folded throw if your cold, bathroom was clean with usual soap and shower gels, shower was in a seperate room, water was hot but easily mixed too. Chef took breakfast order and chatted away, food was good. Travelled with work colleague, would return with wife for a little get away gladly

The tv wasn't the biggest The temptation to make phoenix nights jokes

The room was comfortable and clean with a good sized radiator that warmed it well. The staff were cordial and served a very good cooked breakfast. It was so nice we had the same thing thing both mornings.

No place is perfect, the only thing that was a tad bit off-putting was the conversations of people you could hear outside below the window. Something a bit of double glazing would solve.
