This was a marvellous stay! I am absolutely unable to fault them! Marvellous location, lovely quiet village. The pub itself is old and beautiful. The facilities are spot on, everything is clean. The beds are great. And as for the food - out of this world! We took our evening meal there on the day of arrival and the main course was very good. Then we came to the dessert - this was home made and so good that we all wished that we had room for a second helping. I would particularly recommend the bread and butter pudding with mincemeat - I wish that I could have sneaked a peek at the recipe! We'll just have to go back there the next time that we are in the U.K.! In other words, highly recommended and we have already marked it on our list of the best places to stay!

There was nothing not to like, we loved it all.

This is a lovely family run hotel/pub in Wadebridge a village outside of Chard. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and we had a fabulous full English breakfast the first morning and two lovely meals in the evenings. The owners and staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. For us it was a quiet base to explore the local countryside with the bonus of a pint of ale to relax with at the end of the day without having to worry about driving.

There was nothing we didn't like.

Lovely pub, lovely room. The evening meal and breakfast that we had were both delicious and great value for money. The staff were really pleasant and attentive. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Our only very slight criticism of the room was that the shower cubicle was a little mouldy around the grout which is a shame because the rest of the room was really lovely and classy looking. I’m sure this could be easily rectified!

This pub and inn is run by very kind and friendly hosts and staff. The pub serves delicious traditional British food in a very nice atmosphere, and breakfast was lovely and ample. Our room was very clean and included all the facilities, including tea & coffee (and biscuits ;)) and all the necessary toiletries. Definitely great value for money.

The room was very comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was excellent, and our cocker spaniels Bonnie & Bess enjoyed their sausages for breakfast. That was a lovely touch. The Haymaker is in a quiet village location and was just like home.

We arrived a bit later to the area after service for food had stopped. It would have been great to know the kitchen closed at a certain time and also the evening menu. Another Inn we stayed at asked if we required a table or any food for that evening. Had we known, we would have ordered ahead. Instead, we drove into the nearest town for a chippy tea after driving for 5 hours.

Lovely room, great food and friendly staff

Lack of communication about sunday lunch, we booked a table as we were staying at the inn for two nights, so when we went to order our sunday roast we were asked had we booked one? we said we had booked the table the previous day but nobody had told us we had to book the dinner at the same time so that was disappointing

The owners & staff & very friendly & helpful, Jason kindly carried my heavy bag up to our room on arrival..The food is exquisite with plenty of vegan dinner & desert options. The vegetables were lovely, there was celeriac which was a true delight as not often available. Bed was comfy & slept soundly. Shower hot & just perfect.

Pillow is a little hard for me, I remember last time we visited,so took my own this time! But this is our 3rd time staying so just nitpicking lol!

This is a very pleasant little pub with a few rooms. Traditional in style, my room was large, clean and comfortable. The openable window looked out over the road, but it is such a quiet place that there was no issue whatever with traffic. Yes, some of the furniture is a bit dated, so don't expect the sharp decor of a modern chain hotel, but rather a room with character, not to mention the original wooden beams. I was tired when I arrived, so decided to eat in and enjoyed an excellent meal with lots of vegetables at a very fair price. Breakfast was also excellent, with a wide choice of the usual English staples. Most of all, I valued the friendliness of Jason the landlord who did his best from the start to help me feel comfortable and welcome and then to resolve a problem with my vehicle that ocurred on the way down. I look forward to staying again next time I am in Somerset.

It didn't affect me, but in the interests of a complete and totally honest review, I should mention that access up the stairs to the rooms might be an issue for anyone with limited mobility.

Friendly staff. Good food, plenty of choice and interesting variety with large portions. Traditional pub with locals popping in for a game of darts or skittles, good atmosphere. Local beer and cider on tap with a beer garden at the side and plenty of parking. Bedroom was well furnished with king-sized bed and single bed ,good sized wardrobe and bedside tables. En-suite bathroom was a good size. Pretty bedding and curtains gave a comfortable and relaxing feeling to the room.

Only down side was the mattress on the king size bed was a bit soft so husband (who is 6ft 3in and quite heavy) had to sleep in the single bed in the room. However when we mentioned this problem we were told that the mattress was being replaced shortly.

Clean and comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast, large garden with lots of outdoor seating. Home-cooked meals served daily, we recommend the two course 'specials' that are put on once a week, but booking is advised as they are very popular. Friendly and helpful staff. Just a short drive away from Chard town centre, and there is a large P&D car park at Sainsbury's. The nature reserve/reservoir, TA20 1HU, is beautiful and well worth a visit. Take a look in the bird-hide, not forgetting to look down to see the humungous Carp swimming below! There are plenty of places to visit within the county of Somerset, and not far away is the Dorset coast.
