Location, lots of lovely spaces to relax. Staff are excellent. Room (stable suite) was very spacious, great bathroom. Food both the breakfast and dinner at The Boot was very good.

The bed wasn’t idea for a couple as was two beds secured together so you couldn’t comfortably lie in the centre and I could feel the springs. The room, in particular upstairs in the stable suite in the bathroom was incredibly hot. The spa is lovely and intimate however does need a little TLC to freshen up, in the steam room and shower in particular.

Absolutely beautiful hotel and the staff were exceptional!! So friendly and efficient without being at all “in you face”. I was so impressed with how on it they were with my dietary allergies in particular as it’s often something I struggle with. We stayed in one of the garden suites. Yes, they are pricey but so worth it for a treat (we stayed for our anniversary). The suites are separate to the main house and huge over 2 levels with very comfy bed and lovely large bathroom. We ordered breakfast to the room which I really recommend doing! The heated spa pool was lovely - both in the rain and in the sunshine the next day. We didn’t have treatments and the spa is not huge but the pool is lovely and a decent sized space inside to relax and outdoor seating too. I hardly ever write reviews but I really wanted to say how incredible this place is. You will feel absolutely spoiled and looked after but it’s also a very laid back vibe. Incredibly attentive staff but absolutely no hint of stuffiness here! Oh and the food at The Potager is INCREDIBLE! Lots of beautiful veggies and herbs from their garden. We didn’t have the afternoon tea but it looked great. I could go on… if you get a chance then book in!

Honestly, Nothing. Just perfection.

Beautiful formal manicured gardens to stroll around in,with shady nooks and summer houses hidden away to discover. There's a lovely spa to relax in..you are allocated 2 hours a day and you can also book various treatments and massages. Our room was located in the stables courtyard block. It had real wow factor as it was so spacious and light, with a mezzanine floor and it was like being inside a converted barn. The village pub is owned by the hotel,so it was nice to be able to stroll a few minutes down the road for a hearty dinner.

The kitchen garden and veg plot was looking overgrown and unattended, with fruit and vegetables being left to go over and not being used, which was a bit disconcerting as you like to imagine the chef using all the home grown ingredients to the maximum, rather than buying it all in. I brought this up with one of the gardeners, but her "explanation " for all the wasted produce didn't have me convinced.

Beautiful historic building and very clean and comfortable.

We stayed here for our minimoon. The location is within a small village but the village is mostly holiday rentals. The only pub, which is within walking distance, is owned by the hotel so there is little variation on food and the opening hours are very odd. We tried an evening walk to the pub and it was closed, there is then nothing nearby and ended up having to drive to the next town which impacted our evening. The spa was beautiful but very small. No vegan options at the restaurant. I wouldn't return.

stunning views and gardens staff very friendly peaceful nice spa

strangely no bins in my room! the spa is much smaller than it looks no option for room service not sure I’d recommend it for a solo traveller, the staff seemed shocked I was (and I quote) a ‘lone wolf’ (?) and it’s very couple centric

We were very impressed with the charm of Barnsley House and gardens and would like to mention Emanuele, general manager and Florina, restaurant manager, who made our stay lovely and memorable. The delicious breakfasts and dinners used many of the gardens fresh vegetables and fruits in their menus. Overall, I would highly recommend a stay there.

Nothing!

I would not usually choose to stay at an expensive hotel but for a special occasion this hotel is good value for money. It is quietly understated welcoming, and cosy with excellent staff who go out of their way to make your stay the best ... special mention for Andy the gardiner who told us all about his chickens.

We enjoyed a wonderful massage at the spa but were a little disappointed that the facilities at the spa are limited with no pool or gym. We did feel that better use could be made of the space, even if only to add a hot tub beside the fire outside.

Room 3 was very noisy, we enjoyed the stay but felt the noise travelled up a lot to the room. Confusion over taxis which put pressure on us. The staff and management team were very accommodating especially stretched as they are - kudos for the way they coped with a busy week, dedicated and knowledgeable

the staff couldn’t have been more helpful, thoughtful and considerate. We brought our dog who was looked after and welcomed like a member of the family, we didn’t want to leave.

We love this hotel. Amazing breakfast and lunch. Great tennis court hidden in the vegetable and herb garden. Fabulous service in The Village Pub for dinner. The Cornish Mussels Thai Style & the cheese soufflé were excellent. The Barnsley chop and Burger as a main were delicious too. Beautiful generous cheese dessert. Happy and professional waiters. Can’t fault them. The grounds and gardens are so beautiful and we topped our 1 night stay off with a massage and relaxing time in the hydro pool. We will be back! Took the hotel e-bikes for a spin to Bibury, too. A perfect stay and the staff is excellent!
