The staff was very nice. The room and facilities were clean and cozy.

My main qualm was the overpriced dinner for less than mediocre quality. I tend to try salt and pepper squid everywhere, these were by far the saddest servings I've ever had. Far from fresh, overcooked, and the salad was too old to serve. The Gnocchi were ok, slightly overcooked, and the chicken was very dry. Again the room was lovely and mostly clean - some unpleasant stains on walls and carpet weren't great though.

Great room comfy bed, iron to which was great.

A separate bar area with comfy seats to relax was only thing missing. Dining room set up not quite the same for a drink. I will be travelling a lot to Dumfries and that is the one thing that stop me staying more than a night

This Hotel is in a beautiful location and ideal for a peaceful walk after dinner in the grounds. Not many Shops or eating places nearby and needed to drive to find others mainly in the Town. Room was quite large, however, lacked somewhere to hang Jackets and needed comfortable seating as there wasn't any. Also Carpet required changing due to wear and a quite large hole in it. Good breakfast with adequate choice although wasn't to keen on the dinner menu on the first night. We had a Pizza which was not very good, lacking on topping with a very thin cardboard like base and for the price we would have been better getting a Dominoes delivery which would have been tastier and cheaper. Staff very friendly, helpful and would stay again if in the area as ideal for a mini break but wouldn't stay long term.

Dinner menu choice and not having much nearby by way of Shops, Cafes, Restaurants etc.

Loved the large bed, and bathroom facilities. The building was lovely the lounge area was a nice relaxing place to sit. I'm glad the accept dogs so I could bring my little pooch. Mini fridge was handy with chocolate bars and bottled water. Beautiful view from room, garden view executive room. Bonus shaving sets room service pillow service Restraunt service to bedroom was good however £5 delivery for it to be walked to your room. Dressing gowns available on beds to.

Advertised as a indoor and outdoor play area for kids however there is none! Board games and books available in lounge area however these are all mismatched and we could only use one game. Wasn't keen on cooked breakfast not very tasteful or appetising to look at (no Scottish breakfast) however the continental selection was satisfactory alot of choice.

Only stayed for one night as a stop on the way to the Cairnryan ferry port. We arrived mid evening, around eight pm. Check in was easy, the restaurant was open so I asked the restaurant manager if I could take some food to the room as my husband was there with our dog. I was delighted to find that we could come to the restaurant with the dog providing we sat at the one of the first two tables. We also had breakfast at the hotel which was buffet, hot and cold and very good quality. The hotel is in lovely grounds for walking. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Rhiannon quickly replied to our request for two rooms close to each other which gave us peace of mind immediately. The size of the disability room was excellent and the beds were really comfy.

I did raise the issue that we found the rooms cold and that there was a leak on the carpet when entering the bathroom in the disability room, when we first arrived, I didn't catch the name of the reception staff, I just felt that we should just deal with it ourselves, not really the 'over and above' service we normally receive when staying with you. We mentioned the leak again when we left and a different reception person said they would pass that on. (Re the heating, we ended up turning off the air conditioning and using two plug in heater to keep the disability room warm. )

Our room looked out over the beautiful grounds and was very comfortable. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and the staff were willing to make things if they'd run out on the buffet. We ate there twice in the evening, and the menu choices were pretty good. The receptionist managed to print a train ticket for us which was very helpful.

There was a very large group staying at the same time who were very noisy in the dining/bar area until they went into their group dinner and it was difficult to hear conversation at our table. On the second night the staff allowed us to sit well away from them, even though it was an unused part of the dining room. The bathroom and shower were very good, but there was no individual light over the basin and my husband had difficulty seeing to shave.

Room was comfortable although no biscuits with coffee making facilities. Good location and provided a good base for travel to Troon to watch the golf.

Baring in mind a number of people were staying there and then travelling to the Open and therefore not returning until late on would have been good to have been able to still get food which of course finished at 9 even if just simple pub grub such as a burger. Having walked into Dumfries earlier in the evening the prices in the bar seemed excessive in comparison to the local establishments, although appreciate this is the usual case however I never understand that if the prices were closer surely that would result in greater trade.

Location was great. We had dinner that evening in the restaurant which was enjoyable, staff were friendly, informative and accommodating. Being able to walk around the well maintained grounds after dinner was great. It isn't out of the way to get back out of Dumfries and on the road again. Breakfast felt like it was good value with the typical range of breakfast items on offer hot and cold. We requested for at least 1 of the 2 rooms we booked to be ground floor and the hotel confirmed prior to booking that they were able to accommodate this. We ended up with both rooms on the ground floor across from each other so perfect for our group.

When we first entered the hotel there was a fake scent smell which is a personal dislike of mine. Nobody else in my party commented on it. The bedroom allocated to me didn't smell great on first entering but after turning off the full blast air con and opening the window it seemed to help air the room better. I didn't notice it during the rest of my stay so perhaps the room just needed a proper airing. The other room we booked was okay without any unwelcoming smell. Mattresses were very soft but not uncomfortable and fine for the 1 night we stayed. TV remote wasn't the original remote for the TV which meant I couldn't find the subtitles option. Nothing so bad that would stop me from choosing to stay here again if passing through.
