The room was lovely (Cottage 3) exceeded our expectations, and perfect space with a toddler. The location was perfect for attending a wedding at smiths. The staff were all lovely and very helpful.

For self sufficient cottages the bin was far too small and no waste bin outside to put rubbish in, if your there for more than 1 night it's really difficult. Breakfast on the first morning was beautiful! The second day, a monday, not so good, quality not so great, it was like the end of service yet we still had over an hour until breakfast was over. The heating in the room was not great, I know it was exceptionally cold weather, but neither of us are usually cold people but the room was freezing when we arrived and the first night even with the temp up to 30. It did warm up by the next morning, but we had to keep the temp up to 30!

Overall experience was fantastic - we were there for a wedding - the communal bar area was absolutely lovely, much nicer decor than I was expecting! Service was great throughout the stay. Breakfast selection was good. Bar prices good. Room was large. Loads of parking. Close to everything in Gretna Green.

Room was a bit dated - but they are in the process of doing up the rooms. Initially we were really pleased with it, and it was absolutely fine for the 2 nights - but little things like different coloured light bulbs were a bit odd. And it was dark in the room so not great for doing make up. Extractor fan in bathroom wasn't great and so essentially created a steam room and everything was sopping with condensation. Also I just think that shower curtains are a bit grim!

We arrived at Smiths at Gretna Green with my brother and his fiancee to attend their wedding. The hotel was ideally located to the wedding venue and was just across the road. The facilities were fantastic. I had booked an appointment for my hair to be done on the morning of the wedding and found the girls to be pleasant efficient and very skilled. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We were given a private room to host the wedding reception which was ideal for our party. The rooms were spacious very comfortable and spotless. I would highly recommend this lovely hotel for anyone wanting to marry at Gretna it was a fabulous day and everyone had a lovely time.

Returned here for our wedding anniversary and did the hand fasting where we married. As usual a great hotel, Food was amazing as usual. Massive shout out to paul in the restaurant who couldn't do enough for us and kept us entertained and laughing all evening.

Slightly disappointed to find out that with us being returning customers we would of got some discounts or benefits. It wasn't the be all and end all though and still had a great time...... The pillows in the room were slightly to hard for me they could do with one hard and one soft pillow.

We stayed in one of the cottages for a two night stay and it was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast at the hotel was ok, some of the food felt as though it had been lying quite a while. So both mornings I opted to have toast with a bit of bacon. However, the staff were very accommodating to my friend who has a gluten free diet and went out of their way to make sure she had something suitable to eat and were able to offer her different options. We ate dinner on the first night and it was very nice. Smith's Hotel are mainly known for planning weddings in Gretna Green, but we were there on a little shopping trip and the hotel was handy for the outlets, only a 20 minutes walk away!

There wasn't much I didn't dislike

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome by reception team. So helpful & attentive. The room was spacious, clean and modern. We had a lovely view of the Famous Gretna Green Blacksmiths. The experience in the restaurant was excellent. Lovely atmosphere and very nice food. I have Coeliac Disease and I contacted the hotel before our stay to check if they had gluten free options and could they guarantee no contamination. They accommodated my needs and I had a lovely starter and main meal. 10 out of 10! Thank you, I am so grateful! We will definitely stay here again next time we are heading to the Scottish Highlands. It's a lovely stop gap.

We stayed in the Bensmoor Lodge and it was beautiful. Very spacious and clean. The air conditioning was a huge bonus! The proximity to the Old Blacksmiths Room and Marriage Suites couldn’t be beaten. We used the bar in the main hotel which was a lovely space to relax and the staff were very friendly.

The lodge is supposed to sleep 6 people however it only had a couple of wine glasses and a couple of champagne flutes. There were no tumblers for juice or spirits. Also the second bedroom could have been doing with a mirror in it or a smaller mirror with a shelf in the hallway.

My daughter had her wedding reception here and a few of the family and friends stayed overnight in the hotel. The room was very comfortable, we had dinner the evening before the wedding in the restaurant which was delicious. A great choice for breakfast. The wedding reception was exceptional. The food was wonderful, the staff so efficient, helpful and pleasant it was a joy and as mother of the brides, I would like to thank them all wholeheartedly for everything they did for us. They made our day even more delightful. Thank you all so much.

Everything was perfect apart from room service

I thought it was unusual that I couldn't order room service and pay at the end of stay. It took away the facility purpose of room service for us and we ended up finding a different restaurant elsewhere since we had to come out of the room anyway. Almost all 4-5* hotels have that ability so thought it was strange that I had to pay upfront. The point of room service is to stay in your room, so having to go to reception to put approx £50 on my room in case we wanted room service was odd.

We stayed in one of the cottages and it was really lovely. We were on a B&B basis, so went to the main hotel for breakfast. I didn't feel that the breakfast selection was as vast as I have had in many other hotels, but there was something for everyone, and the dining room staff did say if there was anything additional we required we could order and they would ask the chef to accommodate! We also had dinner on the first night at the hotel which was nice, the second evening we went to a little hotel/pub called the Hazeldean, which was 5 minutes away. The staff at the hotel were mostly very accommodating, and friendly, I did ask at reception if they could provide me with a black bin bag, which I needed to cover some of my paper shopping bags from the heavy rain outside, but was informed that they didn't have anything, I walked a few steps to the bar/restaurant area and asked the girl there and she was more than happy to provide me with one! The cottages we stayed in are just a short walk from the main hotel and across the road from the Gretna Green blacksmith shop and shopping area, we were also just a 20 minute walk from the Gretna shopping outlets, so the location was very good. I would definitely stay here again.

There wasn't much we didn't like, we really enjoyed our stay! The only thing I would say is that eating at the main hotel was a little bit expensive for what you get!
