Reception and all rounders Monica, Deana, Mel made our stay - and all the other ladies. Housekeeping were excellent - thank you Dawn for the amazing towel birthday cake and 70 roses Thanks Kathy - breakfast was absolutely great - thank you to chef - such good food. Such a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone - all the staff was friendly and welcoming - nothing was too much trouble. A perfect stay in a hotel Thank you all - Dan & Teresa
The lamps around the bedrooms are great but wouldn’t mind a brighter light in the bedroom - but very comfortable and spacious rooms

Afternoon tea and dinner were both great, though I would have like fewer sandwiches and more pastries for the afternoon tea. The dining room/restaurant did feel a bit industrial, more like a canteen than a cosy restaurant, but it was fine and the service was excellent.
It would have been nice to have some drawers in the room as it wasn't possible to put anything away out of sight, but fine for one night. The duvet was far too warm but that's the same in every hotel these days - bedding that can be separated would be more comfortable than a choice of sweltering beneath a too-thick duvet or being too cold with no cover at all.

The staff were so lovely and helpful. I ended up accidently booking a single room instead of a double and when I contacted the hotel It was instantly sorted for me. The hotel is lovely and the room was clean with good facilities and a good size. I ate at the bar and the service and food was excellent. Breakfast has a good selection and the hot food was prepared fresh to order. Poached eggs were perfect! Value for money was very good. The garden area was a lovely place to sit and read a book/relax, as well as the little library just off reception. Wifi was good and reached all the areas I went in the hotel.
A fridge in the rooms would be a nice addition and there weren't any sanitary/plastic bags free. The TV was a good size but the sound was quite "tinny"

Premier Inn and Travelodge adhere to a standardized template for their rooms, ensuring basic needs are consistently met, including amenities like body wash. Stifford Hall follows a similar approach, ensuring value is maintained. If you're accustomed to the facilities style of PL or TL, you'll find familiarity here. However, where Stifford Hall truly distinguishes itself is in its historic main building. Dating back to the eighteenth century, it exudes charm and character, impeccably maintained over the years. The dining experience at Stifford Hall is nothing short of exceptional. The spacious and tastefully appointed dining room sets the stage for a delightful culinary journey. The food itself is not only delicious but also presented with meticulous attention to detail. From the moment we stepped into Reception, the staff made us feel welcomed and valued. Their attentiveness and eagerness to assist were evident at every interaction. Moreover, the room staff ensured that all our needs were promptly met, contributing to an overall seamless and enjoyable stay. It's clear that the dedication and professionalism of the entire team, from dining to reception to housekeeping, significantly enhance the guest experience. We hope that the management acknowledges and appreciates the positive impact their staff's efforts have on guests. Stifford Hall has undoubtedly become our preferred choice whenever we visit Thurrock.
Nothing.

You can't fault the staff at this hotel. A great team, smiley and helpful. One or two of them have greeted us for years, it's always nice to catch up with them. Breakfast was nice as usual, and the older historic front of the hotel is the perfect setting. Rooms were basic but comfy, shower could do with an upgrade. Quiet and had a decent night sleep.
As previously commented, the rooms and halls are looking tired and are in need of an upgrade. Which is exactly what is happening! The hotel is going through a refurbishment as we speak, so can't wait to see the shiny new rooms later this year. The current rooms are a bit grubby.

It was very clean and well maintained, with excellent mattress and blackout curtains and a clean and comfortable bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a relatively late checkout, which made it feel a lot less rushed to get out.
The place was undergoing renovation at the same time as accepting guests. The food was missing certain touches you'd expect - no tartare sauce with fish and chips, vegetarian breakfast had quorn burgers instead of sausages and over cooked poached egg instead of fried egg, just one slice of toast because the toaster was burning the bread.

The breakfast was very nice, we were the only people in the very large and grand restaurant. The Full English was freshly prepared and the continental breakfast was lovely. Our room was one of the Superior doubles, although it was a little dated it was very comfortable and clean. The hotel is undergoing renovation at the time of our stay and the plans for the future look very good. We did not have an evening meal at the hotel although it did smell amazing. I enjoyed reading about the hotels history and the part it played in WW2 was really amazing.
As mentioned previously the hotel was under going renovations, If you are the type to complain about this then perhaps check if works are still ongoing 1st. Although this did not disrupt our stay in any way at all. The entrance could do with clearer markings as I went the wrong way. But that's probably me being an idiot!

size and clenliness of room, pleasant staff.
I was a little cold during the night, the heater needed turning off when we were ready to sleep because it is a bit noisy, but the duvet was a little thin so I woke up cold in the middle of the night and found it hard to get back to sleep. I think that a thicker duvet or extra blanket would have sorted out the problem. Finally the bed was only a double, a larger bed would have been better.

From food to service - it was wonderful. The communal areas (lounge & restaurant) were exquisite, and it felt good to be sat in a room finely decorated with chandeliers and an assortment of tea cups and saucers. There was a range of breakfast on offer from buffet to plates hot food. The best bit was the library next to the lounge. A fireplace, huge leather chairs, and shelves stacked top to toe of an array of colourful spines. I spent the whole morning leafing through different books and enjoying the ambience of the surrounding grounds. It's a little piece of heave this place. All amenities in working order. Spacious rooms - that don't actually reflect the opulence of the restaurant/lounge/library but still comfortable. Great value for money. Staff were extremely helpful and made sure that all our needs were met. A wondeful stay xxx

Friendly staff, great menu and excellent food in the restaurant, beds were comfy and the rooms have been spotlessly clean both times we’ve stayed at the Stifford.. location is a big plus too as your only a few minutes from the A13/M25 so it’s convenient for travel in practically any direction you might be going… although you’d never know you were that close to main roads given the peaceful vibe of the hotel. Will definitely be staying here again
