Back in the 1990s, I holidayed in Llandod for the Victorian Festival, staying at a local b&b (owners now retired) but spent a lot more f time at the Metropole for drinks, meals and events, so it was my top choice for this holiday. It did not disappoint! I liked everything about staying here. Plenty of parking, help unloading our luggage on arrival, helpful and polite staff at all levels from cleaners to reception. The place simply works, and works smoothly - but then they have had over 100 years of running this hotel (there is an interesting display about its history along the corridor that stretches front to back). The standard double room was comfortable, spacious and a nice blend of tradition and modern. The en-suite was large, with a very good waterfall shower over the bath, automatic lighting and decent extractor fan. For a large hotel, the room was quiet, and there was less noise from other rooms than in many more modern buildings. The self service breakfast was excellent, with good vegetarian options too, in a very large dining room. We didn’t have a chance to dine there in the evening, as we were busy with festival event every night, but another time would try the restaurant. The staff were very helpful about packages I needed to be sent to the hotel - the first few were already in my room when I arrived. WiFi was absolutely fine. It worked so well for this trip, I would definitely stay there again.
Very little to note, and the only thing I can think of is that the room didn’t have many power sockets, and no USB sockets for charging phones etc. That is to be expected in an older property, so we travel with adapters and a 3-way anti surge cube, so it was no problem. As it is a large hotel, be prepared for a fair walk internally between the car park and your room, and there are several lifts which made bringing in all our luggage much easier. As we were there for the Victorian Festival, we probably had more luggage than most!

Nice bathroom with a bath and a decent sized shower. Good breakfast with some decent healthy options as well as the usual stuff. Good location and a decent sized car park. After our poor dining experience on the first night (see what I didn't like), we tried the main restaurant for our final night there. 3 courses for £33. All food served together (table of 8) and all good. A complete turnaround from night 1.
The bedroom was supposed to be a superior room. It was big enough but not well/recently furnished. Bit old style. The meal the first night in the bar area was not good. Starters and mains arrived at the same time for some diners! Staff tried hard but were a bit disorganised.

Well the Met had better be decent given it's the poshest hotel in town. And it definitely is decent. Nicely sophisticated whilst capitalizing on quaint charm. Blister plasters are available at reception. Breakfast is included and is pretty reasonable. Reception staff pleasant and polite.
Toothbrushes are not available at reception. Doesn't serve Calvados at the bar and you can't buy a bottle of brandy to take upstairs. No glasses in rooms, only mugs. Some of the staff are a trifle snooty. Small room and the heating didn't seem to work.

Stayed in room 201, which was in the centre of the hotel, So unfortunately there were no views from the window 😧 (but it was the last room available on Booking .com, so could not really complain). That said, the room did have a Nice double bed. The bathroom was fitted with both a bath and separate shower cubicle. A must for those who find it hard to climb into the bath to use the shower. The Staff on reception were great. Very Helpful, Chatty and Generally Pleasant . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Every one of the staff I interacted with were very helpful. No need to haul your bags up the stairs to the Reception! As there is a lift from the car park to the first floor, was very useful. Very large private car park, with segregated area for the large number of motorcycles which our group had. Food was excellent, both at breakfast and dinner. Sorry I did not make better use of the pool, which I promise to make better use of ion my next visit.
The lift from the car park, needs better signage. I only noticed the lift, by chance. I got into the lift to go up to my room, and noticed it only went to the LG floor. So being nosey, I went down just to see where it went. Little win! 🥇 😊

The Tower room was spacious, comfortable and with excellent views. Our meals were outstanding and the room was serviced to a high standard. The spa was excellent and of a high standard. A thank you to Tilley whose calm approach made us 10 years younger. Our stay was made very special by the care taken by Sam who was efferent and diligent. No request was too much.
Clearly some areas of the hotel seemed tired. Although the gourmet dinner was excellent and our congratulations to the Chef, the start of the evening meal was extremely hectic in order to cope with the numbers dining. Some members of staff appeared flustered initially due to the lack of table spacing. Perhaps the positioning of the tables away from the serving counters and kitchen doors could have helped. But overall the staff coped extremely well.

Lovely food in restaurant, starter and dessert were sublime, main course was ok. The room was a good size and comfortable bed, with tea and coffee offered. Only downside the bathroom was motion censored so middle of the night toilet break caused noise and light to be on for longer than would’ve liked. Pool was clean, used the sauna, steam and jacuzzi all were well kept and very relaxing.
Bathroom which can be turned on and off yourself

Handy location in town centre Lovely pool and open in time for my before breakfast swim Excellent fare and service in Spencer's Brasserie Pleasant and helpful staff Large free car park Comfortable bed
All rather dated and smelt a notch musty in some enclosed corridors Main restaurant floor looked like it could benefit from a good hoover and clean Tea pots would have been appreciated at the breakfast buffet

I liked the accessibility. I was able to use my mobility scooter throughout the hotel. All areas were accessible to some degree. The staff helped me throughout my stay., Especially when the little lift to the pool was being awkward. Everyone was kind to my granddaughter and made her feel welcome. The food was really nice. The bed was large and very comfortable. All good quality toiletries, not in tiny bottles. We had Sunday lunch the previous week and enjoyed it immensely.
The only thing I noticed in my room, my husband's was more up to date, was the furniture was a little tired., With worn wooden tops and frayed upholstery. The decor also. This did not detract from my stay but at the price I felt things could have been better. The toilet seat was askew but only staying one night I made do.

Classic period property, nice spa area, the night porter...a local man from llandrindod who's worked there for over 11 years was an absolute gentleman.. he couldn't have been more helpful. This guy deserves praise.
Price is a bit steep. And the restaurants are overpriced with pretentious menus that don't suit the area.

Breakfast is exceptional, lots of choice, no grease, plentiful and buffet style, very relaxing. The property itself is beautifully quirky, true to its historical past, I wouldn’t alter anything at all. Staff are friendly and non-intrusive. There were no disturbances and never herd a sound from other guests. Our room is very clean, bed huge (super king), we have a bath and a double walk in shower. I just love it !
I have thought about this and can’t think of anything I could suggest to improve!
