Great location and quiet area. The lobby, lounge and bar are quite charming- 50 rooms across several houses linked to create one property. Super helpful staff when I told them I’d fractured my ankle and needed help with luggage- they gave me a room on the ground floor and helped settle me in.
The room I had was one of the tiniest I’d been - even the chair was too big and couldn’t even move out from under the desk. The bath room fittings were quite worn out- the ceramic shower holder was cracked from age and because the parts need to be ordered, will take a while to be replaced. The room is dark/ not enough lighting at night. I’d come back but would avoid room 52.

The hotel is located very close to the main campus of UCL and several metro stations. Rooms (at least the one we booked - king bed) are rather small but comfortable. Continental Breakfast is included in the price and though there is not much variety we enjoyed it every morning. They also offer full English breakfast for £15 per person extra. We stayed in a room on the ground floor overlooking the garden and I really enjoyed it as it is very quiet there. They also serve lunch which we had one day and afternoon tea which we did not have a chance to try. Every evening you get biscuits and the tea/coffee is provided in your room. The mini bar has some soft drink as well as still and sparkling water - also included in the price.

Very nice and comfortable, a feeling of being valued.
Stairs! We appreciate how difficult it would be to install a lift. We wouldn’t let this put us off visiting again. I booked a hotel with breakfast; it was disappointing to find the ‘full English’ was an extra £15! I felt a little misled. If you do not include something, please make this absolutely clear at the time of booking.

i stayed 3 nights at the Academy and was given a 21 sq foot room on the upper most floor. The hotel location is very good. Across from the hotel were the universities. The street was quiet and felt safe to walk. it was also a short walking distance to the train stations (Goodge or Warren or Tottenham), the British Museum and bookstores (Treadwell, Waterstones). It is also close to some nice bakeries (Fortitude, Ole and Steen and Honey and Co) There are no lifts in this hotel, but the staff helped us take our luggage to our room on the uppermost floor. i read reviews about the floor boards creaking, but since we were on the uppermost floor, we were not bothered by that. Breakfast is provided each morning as part of the stay and was very good. There is a very decent spread of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, pastries, breads, cold cuts and jams, coffee or tea. If you'd like to have a full English breakfast (bacon, sausage, tomatoes and eggs) that costs an additional 15 pounds. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
These are just small details in the larger scheme of things. 1. Part of the room (the table where the kettle and coffee/tea are placed ) was very dim. There was no ceiling light here. What we did was unplug one of our bedside table lamps to place there so that area could be better illuminated. 2. The safe in our room was not working from day one. Despite the staff's best efforts, it never worked the entire time we were there. 3. i only discovered after i had left London, that a t shirt i had gotten laundered at the Academy had been damaged. There was a small hole burnt in the bottom corner. To be fair, i'm sure that if i had discovered it while i was still there, the hotel might have compensated me in some way.

Very good location. Friendly and polite staff. Nice breakfast. Good place to have a rest and drink some. Nice smoking area outside. The room was big enough. The room was warm enough. They got AC if you need to. The hotel is made in old British stile in old British street. Very nice place.
I didn't like that the windows were boarded up, it was hotel policy for security reasons. Our room was on the third floor, it's hardly very high. If you want to ventilate it's impossible. Separately, it was very warm in the room, to normalize the temperature we had to use the air conditioner on cooling throughout our stay. The air conditioner was very noisy.

Beautiful little boutique. Loved the size of the room and also the facilities. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Helped us place a food order later into the evening. The breakfast was very well presented, fresh and tasted delicious. Would definitely recommend and return. The geography of the hotel was ideal. We enjoy walking so it was 20mins from Kings Cross and easy access for everywhere we wanted to go.
The only one tiny thing was that we were at the very top of the hotel (rm 61) and the heating was on permanently in the bathroom making it like a sauna. In the winter I’m sure that’s fine but in the summer it’s too warm.

You'll feel right at home with our friendly staff and secure, controlled entrance, plus a 24/7 reception to welcome you any time of day or night. The rooms feature comfortable beds, beautiful décor, and a large TV for your entertainment. You'll also find a handy in-room safe, a fridge, and a shower with impressively strong water pressure. In the morning, enjoy a tasty continental breakfast, and don’t miss the beautifully designed communal lobby areas—perfect for relaxing or catching up with fellow travelers.
The room is small for the price. Some finishings need repair—bathroom floor tiles are moving, wallpaper edges are peeling, and the room door has large gaps that let in light from the corridor. At night, you can hear sometimes creaking noises from people walking in the adjacent rooms. The sink tap is also loose and needs tightening.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at The Academy, part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection, and it was an unforgettable experience. The location of The Academy is perfect for anyone wanting to explore London. Situated in the heart of Bloomsbury, it’s just a short walk from iconic landmarks such as the British Museum, Covent Garden, and the West End theatres. The area is quiet yet central, offering a perfect balance of peace and accessibility to London’s major attractions.
Soundproofing is an issue. The hotel is located on a busy street, and I found the noise from traffic and street life to be quite loud, especially at night. Additionally, the hotel itself is quite noisy internally, and sounds from neighboring rooms or hallways can be heard easily. For light sleepers, this might be a concern. It’s also important to note that The Academy does not have an elevator. If you have heavy luggage or mobility concerns, this could be an issue as the hotel is spread across several floors. I didn’t mind it personally, but it's something to keep in mind when booking.

Excellent location with easy access from the airport by the Elizabeth Line. The British Museum is just around the corner. Breakfast (continental) was very good, with a very nice, attentive staff. The bed was excellent, though we were surprised that a "King" room had only a full-sized bed (this was, however, as indicated in the description on the website). What was really nice was the "library" on the ground floor, which was great for reading. The two gardens behind the hotel were very inviting, but it was below freezing for most of our stay so we did not get much use out of them.
The only thing that needs improvement is the lighting in the room. It was severely underlit, with only the desk lamp available to read by. There were reading lights attached to the headboard, but these were not functional and appeared never to have been connected to anything. Fortunately the library was conveniently located and a great place to read.

Our room wasn't ready when we arrived. After about 10 minutes, they did offer us a glass of wine which was nice. Though the wait ended up being about 30-40 minutes. Because of this hiccup we were extended a late check out until 12noon. On our check out day, we confirmed that our key cards would work until then. They assured us they would. Like clock work our room keep expired at the original check out time. This wouldn't be terrible if our room was on the sixth floor walk up no elevator. Upon return from breakfast we had to go back down to the lobby to have them re upped.
