The location was fantastic for our walking holiday - very easy to access lots of amazing trails within no more than a 20 min drive (you can also walk from the door but we didn’t do that trail this time). There is a drying room where you can store wet clothes and boots overnight. Our bedroom was very comfortable and breakfast was great. We had dinner at the restaurant 4 nights in a row and genuinely, everything we had was superb - there aren’t many places you could go and eat that frequently and be impressed by every dish. Service was also brilliant - no long waits for food. It really was very impressive. The staff were all incredibly friendly and professional.

The only tiny improvement would be if the towel rail in the bathroom had an override function so that we could have turned it on to dry towels etc. It is probably plumbed into the heating, so didn’t go on at all during our stay. Not a huge issue but would have been a bonus.

The Exmoor Forest staff were superb; well trained but relaxed, they were attentive and friendly. The food was exceptional, probably the best roast dinner I have ever had and we ate on a Sunday evening after a busy lunch service, often the time when the quality flags but not here. The vegetables were a real feature and cooked to perfection. Similarly, breakfast of fantastic smoked trout and scrambled egg complemented with homemade sourdough that had a real lightness of touch to it - not something easily achieved. The welcoming wood burners were a real treat on an exceptionally wet early September evening and really cheered everyone arriving damp from the moor.

The weather!

Very friendly helpful staff. We felt very relaxed and comfortable straight away. The room was very nicely decorated, well equipped, and comfortable. We had an evening meal there after a long 15 mile walk and it was tasty, nicely presented, and just what we felt like - not too fancy, but more than just 'pub grub'. We were walking the Two Moors Way and the pub is in a perfect location for this.

Expensive - it's a shame that you have contact them separately for a twin room and then pay more when I feel it's already quite expensive. Not a biggy, but would be great to have as an option just to book a twin on Booking.com.

Everything was perfect honestly cannot fault the stay. The staff were amazing and hands on - even the manager and the owner, nothing was too much trouble. They were very dog friendly as well which made a huge difference to the stay. Food amazing. There are always things you would do or do differently that’s just individual preference and of course no one can cater for every single need. These guys have got the right balance. I have been in this industry for a lot of years and it takes a lot to impress me but they managed. Advice - don’t change anything.

Honestly nothing!

Our room was lovely and spacious with a large comfy bed.. and it had a bath which was very relaxing. Breakfast was good and so was dinner. The staff were polite and friendly, and very accommodating to our little rescue dog. We loved the fact that the hotel was so close to beautiful local walks (literally across the road from the Inn).

The hotel was a bit too warm for us so that even though we didn't have the radiator on in the room and the window wide open, the central heating in the building made it difficult for us to sleep as soundly as we would have otherwise.. maybe that was just us though!.. the bed was very comfortable and spacious. We would definitely like to stay again and perhaps would have booked for two nights if the price was a little lower.

We loved everything about this Inn. We loved the quick response to our booking, our quick email reply to book dinner, the food, the staff, the facility and our room. It is a cut above anywhere else we stayed. Dinner was local fresh food and the waitress was wonderful to offer me fresh vegetables rather than the chips which I did not want. Our breakfast was beautiful with continental and also a cooked portion. Delicious. The whole package is a 20 out of 10.

Nothing we did not love!

Loved the location and the hotel overall. Garden seating and dining rooms. Food wise, loved the breakfast and the steak dinner - the steak was memorable and among the best I've had! The staff were friendly and it was a pleasant environment. It is set in a lovely area with lots to explore on the coast and on the moors. The room had tasteful decor and was very comfortable.

The specific room was slightly quirky layout wise and maybe not their best, with road view, bath with handheld shower head, but I guess that would be reflected in the price and later booking. The view in itself was not bad because it is set in the Exmoor forest thus pleasant views of the forest.

Perfect place to stay in the middle of Exmoor. We loved the deco of the Inn and the bedrooms were beautiful. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and had a great meal. The following day we were able to walk straight from the Inn up the river Barle which was great.

We were there for New Years Eve and were dissapointed that the bar closed at 10.30 and there was nowhere to celebrate the New Year as the residents lounge was full of a group of people playing cards. Such a shame as everything else about our stay was perfect.

Lovely view, cosy, and nice Ensuite. good size and comfy bed. Able to use it throughout the day. Wonderful breakfast and better dinners.

The only fault was the monkey puzzle tree in the front encroaching on the main entrance path which can and did inflict scratches to tall people like myself and could be a danger to eyes. Lovely tree perhaps a little careful trimming or tying would alleviate the problem.

An amazing find. Perfect location, with hiking trails into the national park as you walk out the door. Good size room, with a nice bathroom. The food was amazing. Dinner was a burger, a steak and gnocchi. English breakfast was great. The freshest locally sourced ingredients really make a difference. The staff are fantastic. The bar lady and young server at dinner time were friendly and polite. I think the two owners we were looked after by are Ed and Alex. They are exceptional at what they do. They really do know hospitality and how to make a guest feel welcome. This is coming from a couple who have worked in 5 star hotels in London for the past 20 years. Will absolutely return one day in the future!
