Lovely rural location by the Tarr Steps. Dog-friendly b&b, with a useful little entrance area between our rooms (3&4) which served as a space to wipe dog paws and keep coats and leads, etc. Breakfast was very tasty - lovely sausages.

I was a bit disappointed, having informed the Tarr Inn well in advance, that the breakfast for a vegan lacked any thought (veg but no protein was offered - ie tomato and mushroom on toast). Offer baked beans! (He had mine!!) Vegan sausages are readily available and easy to keep in a freezer. No oatmilk at breakfast, either - such a shame. Apart from this, we really enjoyed our stay.

Everything was great. Very spacious, clean and well kitted out rooms with fresh milk in a fridge and a coffee pod machine as well as ample storage. The bathroom had those bits you might have left at home, like toothbrushes and combs. Excellent shower and extractor fan. The restaurant was cosy and comfortable with a warm atmosphere: very rare in hotels. Breakfast was divine. All staff were cheery and professional. The setting is idylic. I wish we were able to have stayed longer.

Room 5 was made up as a double using the 2 singles. That's usually fine, but we had one mattress a bit lower than the other and much softer. Our 15 year old in room 6 had a very comfy double bed and perhaps we should have been guided to have each other's rooms. We all slept well though.

The food was always excellent. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and delicious. The staff were very accommodating over letting us choose what we fancied from the menu. The bedroom had everything we could want and decor was of a good standard. The bed was very comfortable. Useful items in the en-suite such as toothbrush and paste etc

The only thing we can think of was the cold draught coming under the bedroom door which was open to the outside. The bedroom was nice and warm so not a real problem and we put a coat by the door to help.

I had dinner here and you know when you really suddenly find a place and absolutely love it but you wonder what it's gonna be like to actually stay there... it was amazing. The rooms and the detail of the historic restoration make it so cozy but it's so friendly. It's chic but not stuffy or pretentious. That's what makes it wonderful. Not just friendly to people but really dog friendly. So you're there in the most stunning setting. It's like being in heaven- you're in wild and wooly, romantic Exmoor where you can sit out on the terrace perched high above a stream and look out. Or go out and walk in the countryside. It's secluded but conveniently located to be able to go down to Exeter or up somewhere else onto the coast. It's just perfect and the restaurant is fantastic and well worth the detour to just to go to the restaurant. I can't wait to come back again and most guests come back year after year...

We stayed here as the locatiion is excellent and were delighted that the inn has excellent, friendly staff and they have thought of so many "extras" to ensure the stay was memorable. Our complimentary breakfast was lovely and we ate in the convivial restaurant which serves delicious meals - our thanks to the chef; it was my wifes birthday and we both had a great meal.

The painted MDF panels and cuboard doors in the bathroom were a little jaded.

Breakfast was very good , lovely fruit compote with Greek yoghurt. Much appreciated that it wasn’t sweetened.

Only 2 quibbles. One lunchtime we had French onion soup which was so peppery that I found it inedible. One breakfast I had an omelette spoilt by being far too salty - my husband tried it and agreed. I think the chef should remember that over seasoning is not a good way to present dishes - you can always add salt and pepper if needed but not remove it.

Amazing location. Very friendly staff.. gorgeous pub & restaurant with fantastic food.

Being super critical the furnishings in the room were a bit rough around the edges. Would of been a 10 otherwise but it’s probably a very used country inn . However would not hesitate to recommend.

Lovely surroundings next to the tarr steps Comfortable and large room Great food Great staff

Meal quite pricey but excellent quality Single track road (few hundred yards) to get to the Inn and not clearly signposted Signs say unsuitable for cars so we had to ask at the nearby car park and it's fine for cars going to the Inn except for being narrow.

The staff were friendly and helpful, offering advice and recommendations of different places to visit as well as taking the time to talk to me. The food was gorgeous, and the Inn itself was cosy and felt like a home away from home.

The walls in the rooms were not soundproof as advertised and I did struggle to sleep because of this.

Such a lovely place I feel really lucky to have stumbled across it on here. The place is amazing with period features but also nice decorated. You go to some older places and sacrifice the cleanliness but this places is amazing.

Rooms were lovely, surrounding area amazing and staff fantastic. Could go out of their way enough to help.
