Very comfortable, large room. Pleasant surroundings, friendly staff.

On the first evening, the kitchen closed early due to shortage of staff and extra functions which had taken place during the day. We were advised to order food from outside which we could then eat in the bar. Unfortunately, (through no fault of the hotel) the food never arrived but as a consequence we went hungry that evening. The following evening we ate very well in the restaurant.

Amazing hotel love all the artifacts dotted around the building. The armor, portraits, the original bell. We got to use the pool facilities both days included in our stay. The room was massive, really lovely. Perfect location 10min drive from Norwich City ( £10 taxi). 15 min drive from the River. Staff were so lovely and super helpful. They even had gluten free bread for breakfast and oat milk very impressed. Beautiful grounds.

Nothing major. Just little tiny things they could think about. The bed looked massive but was 2 pushed together. The breakfast room looked a bit disorganized. But breakfast was nice

The hotel and grounds are superb and the pool and spa looked exceptional ( I did not use them but they were very busy). The room was comfortable and clean and the reception and bar staff were helpful. Room interiors are exceptionally similar to the Marriott brand in the US - dark wood and white linen, unsurprising as this hotel was previously Marriott. I have scored this hotel for the services I experienced, in a one night stay, which were very good, however, I would have some reservations about a longer stay as detailed below.

It is exceptionally rare to find a quality hotel where booking for breakfast is 'mandatory' and charges in the bar and restaurant cannot be charged to your room. Equally, whilst I only stayed one night, a message was in the room advising that the room would not be entered by hotel staff during the length of stay of the guest, it said that this was for guest safety ( COVID ) - but in reality I strongly suspect that this is to reduce costs of linen and housekeeping staff. This is a hotel that is not sure if it is a horse or a donkey - some aspects are horse, some are donkey - very confusing for a guest.

Liked everything about the hotel staff were pleasant enough maybe on a busy day there should be more breakfast staff on as there was one woman rushing around trying to fill everything but couldn’t keep up. Cleaning lady was lovely and topped us up and gave us clean towels when we asked for them but we stayed for 4 nights and would of been nice to have our bathroom/bedroom cleaned as this is a luxury spa hotel and not have to ask for room top ups when we left there was dust in the room from where it hadn’t been cleaned since we got there and as there was no toilet brush to clean the toilets ourselves was a bit disgusting maybe it would be worth having them in each of the rooms if your not going to do house keeping when the guests are there. Going to clean the toilets everyday or every other day

No house keeper in our room for the whole stay should be a given now covid restrictions are over

Breakfast excellent, very good selection. Beautiful grounds. Spacious hotel, quiet with pleasant atmosphere. Plenty of parking spaces close to the entrance.

Didn't like the room we were in on our last visit compared to the room on a previous visit. I think it was called a City Break Room. It was very restricting to move around, very small, a bit cramped. Not alot of room in the wardrobe. Not a nice view from the window. I wished I'd upgraded the room. Spoilt by the room on a previous visit which I think was a standard double along the corridor that overlooked the pool area., a much nicer room and bathroom. Our friends we went with were of the same opinion. At least I know if staying in the future.

Very helpful staff throughout. Dinner was difficult as I have dietary restrictions and , although the menu didn’t cater adequately for them, the staff really tried their best to accommodate my needs and that was greatly appreciated. Consequently I finished up with food which I could eat! - Incidentally, I have to add that at breakfast the range of food and drink options available for all dietary requirements was great.

Sadly the dinner menu wasn’t easy to work with at first glance for someone with gluten and dairy intolerances. More options would have been nice and a better variety of vegetables in the side order. - My husband thought that the salmon dish would have benefited from a side sauce, but we rectified this by asking for tartare sauce or ketchup. Due to my gluten free enquiries the staff realised that one menu item was misleadingly labelled GF when it wasn’t. -If someone were coeliac, this would have been dreadful. - They were however going to get it changed and, knowing how helpful the restaurant staff were when people like myself explained specific dietary needs, I believe this would happen.

The staff were brilliant and helped with everything we needed including getting a room we could get a lift to (I’m on oxygen and we have a 7 month old baby!), getting some washing up liquid and moving the cot and fans quickly ! They also let us have late check out at no extra cost which was really helpful and allowed us to have a morning swim!

The bath was very slightly dirty, there were limited plug sockets in the room / none by the beds, dressing gowns were not provided as they sometimes are, and breakfast was quite a hefty extra cost after the already pricey room. BUT, these elements were minor to us and we really did enjoy our stay! Just had to skip breakfast one morning!

Fabulous size of room for the money.

Carpet wasn’t as clean as it could have been, hair on carpet from previous guests. We stayed in two different rooms during our stay and the toilet roll in the first room was very poor quality, second room was much more what should be expected. Both rooms had very firm pillows that just weren’t right for me, one pillow was not enough and two were too much. First room we stayed in we had requested and green grated a late checkout but housekeeping knocked the door several times to ask whether we could leave. This was difficult as we were getting ready for a family wedding.

The reception staff and the breakfast staff were very good, friendly and very helpful. The room was a good size and comfortable. The staff at breakfast were aware of the gluten free requirements and pointed out where the gf dishes were. The breakfast exceeded our expectations. Although we didn't use the swimming pool or gym, it all looked very good. We would definitely consider returning in the future even though the evening meal didn't go well - let's hope it was a one-off.

Unfortunately the evening meal we had fell very short of that expected. The kitchen and waiting staff acknowledged the gluten free requirement and handed us 2 sheets to alert us to those dishes containing gluten. Basically everything on the menu was marked as containing gluten. The main menu has a few dishes marked as gluten free but apparently not gluten free that night. We ended up with a pasta dish which fell very short of the quality we expected. We were told the desert dish marked as gluten free on the menu wasn't actually gluten free. So we ordered coffee - the coffee machine was broken. We went out for dinner on the second night of our stay - lovely main, desert and coffee.
