Hotel is nice, but the rooms are tired. Wallpaper in a lot of rooms is starting to peel away, some pieces have even been patched over. Carpets are also tired, looks very 80's - 90's.. and could really do with a make over, although the bed is good and the bathroom is very good too.

The tired carpets and wallpaper

We've stayed a number of times at this Crowne Plaza (friends live in Caversham) and it's never let us down. The rooms are clean and well appointed. We've never had an issue with noise and always sleep well in the comfy beds. We usually work in some extra time to have a drink in the bar which has a nice atmosphere. Breakfast is outstanding. Reception staff were helpful and efficient. It's a little pricey in my opinion, but no big complaints.

The price of the car parking! I honestly don't believe any hotel should charge for parking. As this hotel is already on the pricey side, to pay an extra £20 for parking is steep. I think the car park is council run (don't hold me to that) and we got lucky because a tree had fallen down in the storm so parking charges had been suspended when we stayed. Every cloud!

Nice looking, sophisticated decor with a well furnished room. It's 15 min walk to the station with the bags. For a stop off by train and then continuing by train, it worked pretty well. Breakfast was a very good buffet and made it the whole stay much better value.

The shower curtain wasn't fitted well over the bath, so the bathroom gets soaked unless you are careful. The walk to the station isn't long, but it's down very busy main roads and with two large roundabouts to navigate. It's also the wrong side of Reading town. The area isn't the nicest, and everything nearby closes by 2300.

Room clean and well appointed. Great location by river for relaxing walks and also for exploring Reading. Gym clean, with high quality Technogym brand equipment.

A distinct impression of being understaffed. Manning Reception desk with only one person on a late Friday afternoon bound to generate delays. Restaurant found it difficult to serve both a Private Function and hotel guests. Meal delayed by 40 mins but in fairness the Maitre D' did discount the bill. Saturday's breakfast crew knew when breakfast over but not that their published menu at the entrance said "All Day Brunch"!

Convenient 15 minute walk from Reading Station and well located for us as we had a reservation that evening at a restaurant that was another 10-minute's walk across the river further out of town. Friendly staff, comfortable room and a leisure facility with a small, but adequate pool, sauna, and steam room, plus a gym too, although we didn't use the latter. Nice to have a fridge you could put things in. I like to buy a pint of milk to have with hot drinks.

Not a lot to actively dislike, if you are more interested in going to the town centre, it is the 'wrong' side of the railway station. The bed was OK, though a little firmer than I like, my husband thought it comfortable.

The room was good, the heating worked, and the staff in the restaurant was good and so was the food. Also liked parking. It's a good hotel.

Windows were filthy and the roof outside the window filthy, such a shame. On my second day, someone did Jest wash the windows but it didn't make much difference they were too far away. I was also here for a business event, Isobel the caterer was awesome .... but DID NOT SEE ANYONE else all DAY FOR THE BUSINESS VENUE. Couldn't get the PowerPoint to work, I asked at the desk on Monday morning for help with it, but he told me that there was no one to help until later, in the end, I cam up with my own fix, but no one ever turned up or ever dropped in. So fix the front of house staff and have someone to liaise with on business and we will be back :-)

Nicely laid out and very clean. Good location - 20 mins walk to centre. Great breakfast with lots of choice.

Staff were a little off/disinterested. Swimming pool was closed so unable to use the leisure club. Would have been good to have been informed about this in advance and/or offered discount. Upon arriving and paying for parking on external machines - reception staff advised we could have received 50% discount if we hadn’t paid on the machines. Advance notice of this would have been nice. Hotel were good enough to give a drinks voucher in compensation.

Breakfast & evening meal quality all very good & good value for money.

Staffing obviously on minimum manning as replenishing items @ breakfast was rather slow & table turnaround @ breakfast was poor. We actually got taken to a table that had not been cleaned or replenished. Would have much preferred to be asked to wait until table was prepared ready for us. Also disappointed to find that although parking was available ( a must today ) not happy to find out it was £15 a day to park there. 😡. Leisure facility okay but dated & requires modernising also jacuzzi not working. 🤷‍♂️. Workers on site installing a new lift but this had no impact on our stay.

I love this hotel it was clean, the location was great especially because the river thames was situated at the back of the property, and you were able to walk along the Thames and the canals after breakfast, or any time you wanted throughout the day. The rooms were cleaned every day if you required it or whenever you require it without paying an extra fee. The staff are very welcoming, always smiling always making you feel at home and welcome when you walk through the door and when you attend breakfast in the mornings. Breakfast was amazing, and even though breakfast was a buffet you are able to order your breakfast how you want it and different things off the breakfast menu that may not be in the buffet which I found excellent.

My only thing about the property was that that steam room wasn’t working in the Spa throughout our stay but apart from that everything was fantastic at this property.

We booked a river view room with balcony and it was lovely, although it was raining we could just imagine how lovely it would be in the sunshine. A nice walk along the river into Reading, only about 15 minutes. Breakfast, there was plenty of choice. Bed was huge, no complaints with the room at all.

Just a couple of minor issues at breakfast, as in a queue for coffee as only one machine working, and also ordered omelettes and had to chase after about 15 minutes to find order hadnt been put through, but the staff were lovely enough about it. Also parking, there is a charge of £15.00 per day, but the next car park along (literally next entrance) is free at weekend, maybe there should be a review on the charges.
