The quirkiness of the decor which was amusing and interesting, although I suspect not practical for staff! The unusual, possibly novel choice of different kinds/levels of dining from fine dining to a curry night at exceptionally good value for money and all in the same dining room The friendliness and efficiency of the receptionist and quick service in the dining room The proximity to a beautiful park which offered varied and quite lengthy walks in a sheltered place on 2 bitterly cold days

The room on entry was overheated and we had to rush round turning down radiators

We loved the outlandish decor but this aside the food the service and the comfort of the hotel were all top notch. We spent a week in the hotel and felt really pampered and looked after and never had a poor meal. It is clearly a big hit with the locals and gaining a deserved reputation much farther afield as well. We liked the fact that most of the staff were local people who knew all about the area and really wanted you to enjoy your stay. We admitted the flare and imagination of the hotel owners in renovating a great Victorian house and investing in a boutique hotel in a small seaside town but it seems to be paying off extremely well.

I liked the hotel, most of the staff were friendly and very helpful. When we checked in around 3 pm the receptionist went out of her way to show us where to park and walked through the hotel to show us the easy route to park on a nearby road with minimum problems. This was due to a cycling event. The bar staff were lovely and pointed out a special offer when I ordered two glasses of champagne. The restaurant staff were also really friendly and professional. The shower was excellent.

My room was very small but I was very disappointed that having paid £108 I was put in a bedroom with frosted windows as there were buildings just outside. I didn't get a chance to ask but are there different rates for upstairs rooms with a view?

The hotel decor was amazing and the bed- room spacious and it even had a free-standing bath in its own bathroom as well as a separate shower. The evening meal was very good in an usual but pleasing dining room! The bar was suitably querky. The breakfast was waitress-served and had a good choice. The fruit platter was a collection of lots of different fresh fruits, cut up into suitable portions. The kippers were local and served whole. The service was excellent throughout.

On arrival, the outside looked a bit tired and the plastic vegetation rather drab! However, having seen the zany inside, one appreciated the outside look!

a beautiful building with wonderful decor. The staff were amazing and we booked the 7 course vegan tasting menu which was pricey but worth it. I’d highly recommend this hotel and would return. the room was lovely and warm, and the bed was very comfortable.

unfortunately there was a problem with the hot water supply which meant my bath wasn’t very warm - a bit of a shame as we’d booked a lovely too with a beautiful copper bath at the bottom of the bed. nothing else we didn’t like.

Friendly, welcoming staff; a comfortable , peaceful lounge as well as a buzzing bar area. We loved the quirky decor. Evening meal and breakfast gave a good selection of dishes and were very well prepared.

Travelling with a young child I would have preferred a bath in the bathroom. The route from our rooms to the lounge meant we passed through the restaurant where people were dining. It didn’t feel comfortable squeezing through chairs with a young child.

I stayed there over a very busy weekend and the staff were unfailingly polite, friendly and helpful. Bedrooms have plenty of electrical sockets and the mirrors are a good size and in the right place. Breakfast was table service from a wide choice of hot and cold food. Dinner was well cooked and presented and very tasty. Plenty of comfortable outdoor seating.

Bedroom and bathroom windows are not fitted with security catches so it wasn’t possible to leave them open overnight or when out of the room.

It’s my 3rd visit - the staff are exceptionally friendly & very professional. The dining room/menu is top class. Even on a busy day when a cycle race was in progress outside the hotel resulting in a lot of non-residents seeking refreshments the staff coped very efficiently & maintained their helpful spirit. Highly recommend this hotel.

I have no negative comments.

Quirky interiors, an eclectic mix of genres and styles, with a beautiful dining room and bar area. Staff were great. Our room was large and had a super comfy bed, nice bathroom. We had dinner which was superb, better than anticipated

Parking on the road, although it wasn’t hard to park, and plainly there are no other options. Quite an expensive stay for this area.

The breakfast had plenty of choice and I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit platter and the avocado on toast. I grew up in Saltburn so knew the location would be excellent- not far from the top promenade and near the wooded valley. The room was at the back of the building so super quiet.

Would have expected an offer to carry my case up to my room at least as this seems to be the norm in more upmarket places and I am of a certain age.
