Friendly, clean and comfortable country inn. Staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. Great breakfast and evening meals (good size portions) and without exception we were able to slightly change the side orders for our main meals. Really popular restaurant, especially Sunday Lunch, so I would suggest you book ahead. Plenty of car parking for both residents and visitors. Rooms are spacious and showers are powerful unless you prefer a luxurious bath as these are a good size too. We have been going to Ellerby for many years now and the quality just keeps improving. The owners have also kept improving the rooms and bathrooms which is a good sign of a properly managed business. Good disabled access and facilities. If you fancy taking a trip out to the surrounding bays and towns such as Whitby then the X4 coastal bus stops just outside the front door of the inn so access is perfect, especially if you like a shandy or two after your walk!

I have nothing negative to say about this property or the staff. The only improvement I can suggest is to provide an electric car charging space or two which would certainly help to differentiate from other accommodation within the Whitby area.

Everything was amazing.we have had meals at the Ellerby previously and the food is amazing so we decided to book a room for the first time. We were not disapointed everything was modern so clean and comfortable. On arrival we were greeted with a big welcome the staff could not do enough for us everyone was so friendly and made us feel so comfortable. We had a 3 course meal in the evening which was some of the best food i have ever had. I never get through 3 courses as a rule but on this occastion both me and my husband managed all 3 because it was amazing. We are going to book to stay for the week next summer as we loved it so much.I hope when people read my review the Ellerby get more bookings because they should everyone should experience a stay there it is that nice.

Absolutly nothing everything was perfect.

Breakfast was as expected although I could have done with a little more of the Black Pudding . One of my party had a phobia about toilets and it is testament to the cleaners that she had no worries here. All of the staff I met were really friendly and nothing was too much. I particularly liked the attention to detail in our recently refurbished room (#7) although a hook on the inside of the bathroom door would be helpful. Great bar with good selection of beer and wine.

There was nothing that I didn't particularly like. However, when food and drink are charged to the rooms I would prefer for there to be a record of it; i.e. a receipt signed by the guest which can be produced in a case of dispute. In this critique there are aspects where the owner could say "You only have to ask". I expect hotels to get things right the "first time" without having to ask. The cleaner needs to shut the shower door when cleaning the inside of the glass panels.

Ellerby inn is a lovely property , situated in the perfect location for coastal walks and a short distance from all the other coastal towns . Lovely garden and private car park . Rooms , food and staff are all excellent .

Our room was perfect except for one thing , it was situated above a laundry and toilets and was very noisy . Once it was mentioned at 11pm things did quieten down by 11.15pm but heard again at 07.30am . Sadly we just wanted a quiet night away so noticed it more than someone who were out later and up earlier .

I booked Ellerby Inn to take my husband away for his 50th birthday and I can honestly say this is probably the best weekend stay we have ever had. Our room was perfect, extra large shower, extremely comfortable bed, cold bottled water and milk in the fridge for our arrival a large assortment of teas, coffee and hot chocolate, there was nothing more we could possibly of needed in our room. Every member of staff went out of their way to help there wasn't anything they wouldnt do for you and all of them were polite, courteous and lovely and friendly. The food was exceptional the breakfast menu was the best I have ever seen, from smoked kippers to full English, I'm vegetarian and their vegetarian breakfast was to die for. We booked in for an evening meal on the Saturday night, my husband had the deep fried black pudding on mustard mash to start and then steak pie and profiteroles and I had the vegetarian lasagne and Norwegian apple and almond cake we couldnt have had a better meal anywhere it was totally delicious 😋 Ellerby Country Inn is on our permanent weekend break list, I can not wait to return. Thank you so much for making my husbands birthday very memorable and for giving us one of the best weekends ever.

Very clean, friendly owner and staff and felt really comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble. Bus stops right out side the hotel and the X4 ran every 30 mins either into Sands End then onto Whitby on one side and up to Saltburn on Sea, Marske on Sea, Redcar and Middlesbrough on the other side. We never used our car the whole time we were there. We had a fridge and got 2 bottles of fresh water every day and a bottle of milk put in the fridge. Tea coffee, biscuits, toiletries etc. All a lovely touch.

We were in an upstairs room, which was huge and had a very large bathroom with a big free standing bath and a corner shower, beautiful, but no lift for carrying cases up and down and we're both in our 70s with bad backs. knees, hips, so it was a challenge to get the case up and down. Next time we are either going to ask for a ground floor bedroom, I think they have 2, or get 2 smaller cases instead of 1 large one. Internet was a bit hit and miss in our bedroom, but worked fine in the garden.

I was made to feel very welcome from the get go by the owner, he checked me in and showed me to my room rather than giving directions! Once settled I made my way to the bar for a drink and some food, the food was cooked fresh and was well presented! Black pudding starter and Fillet steak for main, both were lovely and cooked as ordered. The room was comfortable and clean as was the bathroom. I was only there for one night but would definitely stay again next time I'm in the area! The owners and the team are doing a fantastic job 👍

Can't think of anything that I disliked

Very friendly and helpful staff. We were made to feel very welcome and the service was excellent. Good sized and comfortable, modern room. Excellent menu with good choice of dishes as well as traditional pub classics, roasts etc. Bar had a good range of local beers and ales. Cooked breakfast was delicious. Ideal location 10 minutes from Whitby and the coast. If we return to the area we would stay here again. Good WiFi Easy to get a space in the carpark.

Very minor issue but the TV aerial didn't work due some issues following a lightning strike a few days earlier. However the room had a smart TV so we were able to use iPlayer, itv hub etc instead

This Inn is a hidden gem but very close to the beautiful beach towns. We had a beautiful room, spacious, two comfy chairs, huge bathroom with bath. The garden is beautiful and well taken care of. It once to relax there in the afternoon with a drink. Dinner was good. Breakfast was good. Staff was very nice and friendly.

As with all the stays in England on our trip, the prices of the hotels/inns etc are very high compared top mainland Europe

This was our second visit to the Ellerby Country Hotel and it was every bit as good as our first. We had a lovely spacious, tastefully decorated bedroom with a comfy bed. The large bathroom had a spacious shower and also a large roll top bath. It was also nice to see a little bottle of fresh milk in the fridge to accompany a varied hospitality tray. The bar had a big roaring fire which was so very welcoming on what was a very cold weekend. All the staff were very friendly, cheery and helpful. The food in the restaurant was as the time before, excellent. It is also lovely to see some old favourites dishes on the menu as well. But I do have to recommend the Apple and Almond Cake, it is divine. I do feel another visit may not be too far away, particularly as this weekend was the weekend of a storm and we could not do the things we were expecting to do.

To be honest there is nothing NOT to like about the Ellerby Country Hotel. But I did feel that the one medium radiator, even with the thermostat switched up, was not adequate enough to warm the spacious room to a comfortable level in winter, storm or no storm.
