Very large family room, very comfy beds. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, very nice to children and family dog, loved our stay, this was our second stay at this location, we will definitely stay again. Food is very nice and very generous portions.

Location of the Tv, tv is in a separate area in the room to where the beds are, we did mention this on our first visit last year so was disappointed to see tv was in the same location but it’s a small negative compared to the overall very positive stay.

It was a comfortable stay with breakfast included which was lovely. They also do light lunches and evening meals and there was a lot of choices . We were going to a wedding at Danby Castle so was not able to have a meal. It's in a good area for walking .

Nothing that we didn't like The only thing is that it's a shame there isn't a local taxi service as they have to come from Whitby which makes it expensive

The staff were absolutely fantastic they bent over backwards to make us welcome and make sure we had everything we needed, the food was outstanding all homemade and really good portion sizes. It’s set in stunning scenery, such a great little find. Can’t wait to return.

My only critique would be the bathroom in our room, just old and dated, but was told about these and in the planning to tidy them up by the new owners, such a small insignificant matter to a great stay

The downstairs family room/ apartment worked really well for our purposes (3 adults and a child), with two single beds and a bunkbed. Also has a kitchen. Bit funny that it doesn't seem to be possible to lock the room from the outside, the entrance to the apartment is straight down a staircase from the main dining area, and the door only seems to have a latch on the inside. Not a problem since we didn't go out, but I could see a diner going down there thinking they might be looking for the bathroom.

The breakfast was nice with a choice of food, tea/coffee/juice etc. The beds were very comfortable and we had access to a small kitchen area as we were staying in the family room. It was warm, ample parking and lots of room in the apartment.

It was a bit noisy as the room was directly below the pub and so you could hear noise from the pub and people walking above you. If you are staying with children or want to have an early night the noise may stop you from sleeping.

Had dinner there, very well cooked good portions and good value for money. Breakfast in the morning was also well organized, just book time and all ready shortly after going down in the morning. Speaking to the other guests seems very popular with hikers on long walks. Parking around back for motorcycle was handy and tucked out of the way so felt safe.

Room was smallish but can't complain at the price and other plusses, lovely area, food quality and friendly atmosphere more than made up for it.

The evening staff were friendly, welcoming and really helpful. The room was comfy with a nice powerful shower! If you are walking the coast to coast, there is a great tea room near Midge Hall for lunch!

Unfortunately the breakfast really wasnt great. There had been issues with the orders on the other tables and the same happened with us too. There were things missing from our plates which had to be sent back and it looked as though it has been cooked in a rush.

Lovely village pub excellent food beds very comfy the family room was just off the dining area so easy to keep an eye on our 3 and 5 year old grandchildren while we had a few drinks and played cards domino's etc ....The staff went over and aboard for us 6 adults and 2 children oh and our little dog loved all the fuss she received......Would highly recommend

It was poring with rain.

This accommodation is the typical community Village Inn and represents everything that is the heritage for the area. A superb friendly welcome, very clean room with everything working including a lovely shower. Food on both my evenings and breakfasts were delicious and hot, and all added to the enjoyment of the traditional ambience. My second night saw the local darts competition and showed the community spirit that keeps these premise alive. Well worth a visit now with the autumn colours, or indeed anytime. So much a far cry from the now all familiar branded outlets that deliver only cheap accommodation and nothing else. Thanks Tony, Yvonne, Beckie and all the team that made my stay so enjoyable. I’ll be back.

Based on my expectations, absolutely nothing.

Everything! The area is beautiful and tranquil, but also has transport link up and down the Esk Valley (the bus actually stops outside the pub). Plenty of walks through the countryside too. The staff are lovely, the room was clean and tidy with a fantastic view, and the bar was like a proper locals pub but was still welcoming. The food was outstanding, especially the Sunday lunch.
