Loved the location of this hotel as it was near to all the places we wanted to visit. Near to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, Muncaster Castle, Wastwater and Scafell Pike, and St Bees. The owners and staff were all amazing . They gave us such a warm welcome and looked after us from start to finish. The food was excellent.. Lovely garden with a river , just wish it had been warm enough to sit out. Very pleasant walk behind the hotel too.

Our room was at the back of the property so it was quiet, but it is on quite a busy road so some rooms could have been noisy. If being picky the bathroom fan was quite noisy, but otherwise everything was just great and we would come again.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. Our room was comfortable, clean and spacious with a nice ensuite. We loved the hands on approach of the owners Clive and Mel. They really went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Loved the riverside beer garden. The food at dinner and breakfast was delicious and very good value for money. Kaz the barlady come everything was amazing and she was working Dawn till dusk covering for a poorly colleague. She was lovely and a credit to the place. We had such a chilled out and enjoyable stay and would love to return soon.

Nice view, comfortable bed, very quiet. Good breakfast, but would be improved with real coffee. Good evening food, friendly, good beer. It won't suit people who like airport hotels but for those who like personality and maybe a slight quirkiness will like it.

A desk would have been handy, but no real problem as the breakfast room was available and comfortable. TV and radio faded away when it rained heavily and somewhere to hang up the towels would have been useful.

Really friendly welcome from the owners Mel & Clive, and the Sunday roast in the evening was lovely. My bedroom was cosy, with a bath in the en suite and the wifi was good. I had to leave the next morning before breakfast officially started. I happened to mention it to Mel and she said “no worries at all”. There was a cold breakfast laid out for me when I came downstairs, with the use of a toaster and offer/tea and juice available. I really appreciated the flexibility😊

The hosts were absolutely fantastic! Clive and Mel were very welcoming! We also loved that the bar/hotel was extremely dog friendly, even with our nervous dog! . The beer garden was fantastic! We enjoyed some lovely food as well as a great ale selection to choose from! We will definitely return!

The room was tired but we opted for the budget room which was correct to the pictures when we booked. Although tired, the view from the window overlooked the beer garden and the bed was very comfy!

Lovely and super helpful staff and owners, it’s a pub too - which we liked, lovely beer garden, great food including cooked to order breakfast.

It’s a bit tired - but that’s reflected in the price which was very good value.

The staff were brilliant, really made you feel very welcome, the food was delicious and the room was bright airy and spacious.

There wasn't anything we didn't like. There was roadworks outside during the night. But the hotel had no control over that.

Warm welcome! Delightful riverside beer garden, lovely staff , spotlessly clean room, characterful property. My bed was very comfortable. Breakfasts were good. There’s a very nice walk by the river.

Main road outside is busy and vigilance is needed to cross it with the dog for toilet. Bin and bags are provided in the lovely beer garden (👍) but I personally think that’s only appropriate for emergencies.

Nice and quiet, liked that the bar/restaurant was separated by a glass door, this kept noise downstairs and the bedrooms quiet. Fab beer garden, lots of places to sit. Hotel doesn’t open till 3 but booking.com says 2pm, may need to update this, but they were nice enough to let us in early.

Room was nice and homely but very muggy, we had the window open all the time, could do with air con or at least a fan in the room.

Friendliness of staff who treated me to a free drink when I finished climbing the Wainwrights

Ceiling collapsed with water and sewage ingress over the billiards table. This could have been caused by visitors putting the wrong stuff down the toilet and nothing to do with proprietor.
