Good location. Stock is where beautiful, historic Essex begins. Not as noisy as had expected. Excellent team of staff prepared and able to deal with any niggles. Breakfast very good but where is the black pudding which many guests apparently wish to order?

Designed for the under 50s. More thought could be given to Boomers. Based on my experience of hundreds of hotels in more than 75 countries my suggestions would be - a grab rail in the shower, somewhere to put soap in the shower, fewer cushions (when the ratio of cushions to chairs in a room is four to one then something needs adjusting), a case stand (apparently available in some rooms). Our room (number 2) was adequate but the smallest so the above remarks should be taken in this context. If we were staying again, I would try and book the superior room number 8 where the very interesting Tudor window is located ( not in room 6 as stated in the brochure).

Breakfast was excellent but no avocados so unable to fulfil my initial choice. However the food we received was freshly cooked , hot and very good. The service at breakfast was excellent: friendly and efficient.

Whilst the bed was very large it was 2 singles pushed together and you could feel the gap in the middle. The size of the bed made the room feel very small. Luckily we didn't need to spend too much time in the room as watching television had to be done laying on the bed. The distance of the nearest plug socket meant you could not see into a mirror whilst using the hair dryer. The shower room was fine but an extra shelf to put makeup/ toiletries on would be useful.

Gorgeous room and brilliant location. Check in/out was extremely easy & quick. The attached pub/restaurant was great - good selection of food and wine and the quality was great. I stayed for dinner as well as having the included breakfast, which was also excellent. Surprised I didn't hear any noise from the restaurant after going to my room approx 8pm (and it was packed when I left) I was actually disappointed I was staying there for work and couldn't stay longer!

The only downside was my room was incredibly hot. The towel rail in the bathroom was pumping out heat constantly and there didn't seem to be a way to turn it down (that could be me being daft). I didn't report as it was 1 night and didn't want to cause a hassle considering the rest was so brilliant.

Lovely inn. When I checked in the host apologised for being rushed because they were short staffed - but honestly if he hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have noticed - the staff were attentive and served our table without appearing rushed or harried. The food is wonderful - the menu has been written to use local produce and the they are obviously proud of their business and take the task of make their guests happy and comfort seriously. The rooms are all finished and furnished to a very high standard. The breakfast is served in the inn - a good range of freshly cooked breakfasts, as well as continental/cereals options. I had no idea what this property was like when i booked - i needed something in the area. It completely exceeded my expectations in all areas. Finally, there's plenty of parking at the rear of the property.

The room was well presented with a large bathroom. Breakfast was very good. Nice bar area. Parking was right outside the room. This establishment is very well presented and makes a very pleasant stay. All the staff were helpful and pleasant.

The room was very hot (too hot) 29 degrees according to the room stat. Despite attempts to reduce it by adjusting the thermostat to 14 it never went below 26 with the windows and door open. It was cooler outside. At night with the door and windows closed (ground floor) the stand fan made it just bearable. A small fridge would have been beneficial to keep drinks cold. The bathroom mirror over the sink needed a light.

The food we had for lunch and dinner the day before the wedding trip out to my nephews wedding at Baddow park the following day far exceeded expectations and kept us well nourished for our next very long and event filled day at the wedding. My son had your well looked after Guinness and others enjoyed your Taylors, myself your morretti, others prosecco all good. All facilities good and you maintained well despite one of your staff members getting her car pranged on the way into work, hope she's ok.staff all doubled up and maintained everything despite having to cover all roles due to the accident and all doubled up all roles well and kept us informed if they got to change or top up the room late because of the above. Property lovely breakfast nice although only gave one egg for the full English but advertised u get 2.

My bed was 2 beds pushed together for £180 a night I expected a proper bed. U can’t get a cab it’s ridiculous. Was at a wedding 5 mins in cab but the drive to the wedding was longer than the drive from the pub to the drive. Cabs charge min £15 as got to come up from Chelmsford so they account for that but we got charged £20 going and £30 to get back. Thank god the barman had another number and that was twice the price, better off driving 😞

We stay at The Harvard Inn every time we visit this part of Essex, where we lived for 30 years. Good location for us to visit friends. Convenient to get into London via Billericay or Shenfield stations. Rooms are very clean, beds way too hard for us, but probably suit many others. Staff all lovely and helpful. Breakfast is very good but we’d prefer option of either no breakfast, or just a croissant/pastry & coffee 😊 Meals in the restaurant have been excellent every time we’ve eaten there.

We had a double room, which was really nice. Massive bed and lovely bathroom with shower. We booked a table for Sunday lunch for four of us and it did not disappoint. Fantastic roast beef with all the trimmings.

The only downside was that the bar closed at 9pm, even to residents, although I appreciate that this is across the board for all hostelries in Stock on Sundays. Also a strange check out time of 10.30am, most places that we have stayed have had an 11am check out, sometimes later.

Really clean and comfortable room with lovely decor. Great food and restaurant facilities and convenient to use the hairdressers opposite the next morning.

We were staying with our two children one of which was 1 and meeting other family members who were also staying there too. The baby needed to go to bed on arrival after a rather long and stressful journey (where we were in a car accident) and so my husband needed to stay in the room with the baby. We had a booking in the restaurant with other family members and I wasn’t able to order food for him to eat in the room or to take any food up to him myself. This then lead to us having to disrupt the meal and take it in turns. It would have made things a lot easier if he could have eaten food in the room.
