The hotel is right in centre of Sunderland which suited us as we were dining there. The staff were polite and helpful and room was clean and tidy with everything we needed. The staff in the 24 hour bar were very good and prices were reasonable especially for a hotel.

What could have been better is not a reflection on the hotel, but more about booking.com itself. I received advice about what to do while staying in Sunderland, which basically was go to Newcastle or Whitby. This really surprised me as there is a lot to do and see in Sunderland if only booking.com could do a little research they could find out. Sunderland has a great coastline with good walks and scenery, there is the glass centre, Hilton castle, the winter gardens and museum and Mowbray park to name a few. I took it as an insult to the friendly people of Sunderland that your advice was to travel miles outside the area for things to do.

For what we wanted the holiday inn for. It was perfect. We stayed 1 night as we were seeing a show which was taking place round the corner. Brilliant walking distance. Good kind and friendly staff. Happy to help. Good sized room. Good bathroom.. Really clean. And quite. Lovely night sleep. Was mid week so it was quite. Good breakfast in the morning and a good evening meal as well. Nice selection.

Only personal bits., No enough tea and coffee in the room and no discount for using the car park. Which is not the hotels car park but is only over the road from it. But over there is nothing bad to point out.

Beautiful new hotel positioned in the freshly rebuilt and updated area of Sunderland. Very close to bars and restaurants in the city centre. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. They gave some great advice and had good local knowledge of places to go eat and drink.

There are 2 minor things I can fault the hotel for. It has no parking although payed parking is nearby. The TV in the room is not the best, looses connection quite often and has no TV guide, the Internet connection notification constantly pops up which gets annoying. None of these would put me off staying again but they should at least be looked into.

A fresh, modern hotel with a welcoming reception area and friendly, helpful staff. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely view onto Keel Square and great access to bars and restaurants within meters of the front door. The perfect location for anybody with tickets to a show at The Fire Station (3 min walk). Great onsite bar, perfect for a nightcap with a snack menu being served until late. The breakfast was very tasty, with lots to choose from and everything was replenished quickly.

No onsite parking - but we were able to get parked with no issues at a nearby multistorey carpark for a very reasonable £5 daily rate.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Holiday Inn Sunderland, and the experience was truly delightful. The accommodations were comfortable, and the overall service exceeded my expectations. I would like to highlight the exceptional service provided by Andrea during breakfast. Her attention to detail and dedication to ensuring a positive guest experience were truly commendable. Andrea's friendly demeanor, efficient service, and genuine hospitality added a special touch to the morning routine. The staff at Holiday Inn Sunderland, including Andrea, contributed significantly to making my stay memorable. I highly recommend this establishment for both its comfortable accommodations and outstanding customer service. Thank you, Holiday Inn Sunderland, and a special thanks to Andrea for going above and beyond!

Its location, very close to the town centre so easy to walk. Close to railway station. The hotel was friendly and clean. The breakfast choice was excellent all the food was very well prepared and there was plenty of it.

The bathroom had a strange smell. Which probably came from the drains. Like the shower and sink hadn’t been used for a while, or they would have benefitted from some bleach. Personally we didn’t like the coffee available at breakfast. We prefer something a little stronger.

Breakfast very good. Location was excellent near bus and metro services. Staff were excellent and very welcoming, especially Gino who went out of his way to assist us with our questions. He knew our likes and dislikes very quickly and we will miss him very much.

Rooms could have used some drawers or wardrobe for storing clothing. Especially true if you are staying for an extended period of time. Three small shelves was not adequate for two people to share for 11 days. Chris in reception explained this is a new corporate policy? Perhaps the policy makers should stay here for 11 days and try living out of a suitcase!!

The location great ,the most comfortable bed and pillows nice breakfast .I would be happy to recommend this hotel to anyone and we are thinking of coming back for a longer stay in the future .

Tried to order room service as on menu said 11am to 11pm , we rang at 10-10 pm and was told the kitchen was closed, also at breakfast on both mornings I think staff should keep a better eye on hot option as when we arrived the hot buffet was missing quite a few options , the food when ready was very nice

From start to finish we were made to feel welcome and valued. The room was spacious and well appointed, great toiletries too. Breakfast was pleasant and staff were more than happy to help with any alternatives if wanted. The staff were all very friendly without being imposing. My husband had just had surgery and Kieron the food and beverage supervisor kindly provided ice wraps to control the swelling. Every member of staff was happy and they all seemed to actually enjoy their job. Hotel is located very close to train and bus station.

It's a shame that there is no parking or no parking concession but that is not the hotels fault. No subtitles on TVs in rooms which was disappointing however, the team are working on this and they will be available very soon.

Lovely staff Spacious premier suite rooms with great views

No smart tv - we paid for the best room and no apps or smart facility, just freeview and YouTube 3 bright lights on a ceiling alarm flash every 30 seconds throughout the night, very distracting when trying to sleep Room temp wouldn't set to any lower than 19 degrees - and even when set at that, it stayed a very uncomfortable 22 degrees all night, so we got little sleep.
