I booked this hotel because I needed a large hotel room due to travelling with young members of my family. I read the reviews which were not great but I thought we would give it a go because it was only one night! We were pleasantly surprised. Yes the hotel is very dated and the hotel room needed lots of work BUT the room was a large family room with loads of space. There was a personal balcony which we enjoyed sitting out on, the beds were really comfy with nice clean linen, nice towels etc. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the beach so location was excellent. The staff were young, however the young guy who checked us in was nice and friendly, he told us he had only been working there for three months so I was impressed with his professional demeanor. We would happily stay again. The children loved the bunk beds and it was a short walk to the beach and town. Don't expect 5 star facilities from a two star hotel but if you just need a base to to stay in a great location and are not too fussy about dated rooms I would suggest staying here.

The bar was closed which was annoying, we were not told on check in that I was not open so we had to order a bottle of wine in. The shower flooded the bathroom completely and we had to use all of our towels mopping it up so only one of us could have a shower! I think the drain needs servicing due to it being a wet room (I have a wet room at home). They don't serve breakfast. Not a big deal because we only stayed for one night and came prepared but the hotel should look at doing breakfast in the future. Maybe a continental breakfast tray that can be ordered to the room maybe?

Lovely staff! Very helpful and polite and welcoming. Room was great & clean. Fresh carpet. Stunning views and large balcony. Close to beach.

The bathroom needed some repairs, although worked fine. No iron / hairdryer or extra towels available. The hotel needs an investment from owners and would be great again! The 2 men on front desk worked very hard with little to go with. Shame the kitchen is not in operation or facilities but no complaints with my room or the staff both was great x

The location and the staff! The gentleman we dealt with during our stay went above and beyond for us and our little girl and even helped us change rooms! We changed rooms due to the amount of stairs being a bit much for a toddler plus the stroller and bags and the room we got changed to was much better than the first.

It is very dated and worn and some areas did not appear clean but we did witness the staff clean so know this not to be the case everywhere. It’s a shame as this would have been such a good hotel if more money could be invested in refurbing it!

Great value for money. Not so fancy that I have to keep telling the kids not to touch anything, but not rough that I have to keep telling the kids not to touch anything... I always go around and give places a quick clean anyway, especially the bathrooms as little ones using the toilet, touch everywhere, and i dont know what might have been missed.. Doesn't matter if we're at a Hilton, a holiday inn or a campsite I have to inspect stuff and clean pretty much immediately, before I can properly relax. This place had clean floors, clean beds and a clean wet room. I would place it somewhere between a dated Premier Inn and a hostel. Possibly what I expect a Butlins might be like? It was booked last minute on a bank holiday weekend and was better than expected as the reviews weren't great. Our room was very large and had a kingsize and 2 bunk beds - separated by a half wall, so it sleeps 6 - although we are a family of 5. It had a lovely terrace attached to our room and stairs to a secret garden beneath, which my kids loved and it allowed them to run free while I relaxed while watching/hearing them. Not a place for special occasions at all, needs modernisation, but I would go again for the price.

A counter top had been missed while cleaning and there were a couple of dried up coffee rings on there when we arrived.

Wifi was absolutely brilliant, TV was small but it worked great and nice carpets but they didn't look like they were fitted by a professional. There was some very funny stuff wrote on the walls for example "In situation of fire call 9999"🤣 it's supposed to be just 3, 9s "fire exite is car parking" ???? And a few other stuff but oh well it's better than nothing if you want a nice little cheap holiday 😊

The lift/elevator was scary because it felt like it was struggling to work, the curtains kept falling down and it took about 45 minutes for the hot tap to heat up. The bed what appeared to be a super king was actually 2 completely different single beds held together by a bed sheet I kept falling in between the beds but it was funny and the mattresses were painful to lay on so I went out to get drunk came back and didn't notice anymore until I woke up , the bt box wires and cables were wrapped around the the red fire alarm hanging down the wall it would be better if they just put a small table there and placed the bt box on a table instead lol same with the staircase bt wrapped around the wooden rails weird but funny

When arrived the manager welcomed us, he was very polite and helpful. Our room was not ready yet, and so he told us the best places to go in the area. Once the room was ready the manager showed us to our room. Which was nice and spacious, it needed a quick fix with the shower, which may have problems due to the 30-40 degree heatwave. The location was lovely and only a 10 minute walk from spoons :D, nice and quiet at night a peaceful area.

The hotel definitely needs a bit of care and attention given time and funding, as some things could do with replacing or just fixing. The garden definitely needs more attention, again given time and funding. A few reviews on here have given quite low scores, but if I am honest, I paid 90 pounds each for four of us in august (busy time for holidays) for 5 days, now I have always said you get what you pay for, we was out every day only in the hotel for a small amount of time and to sleep.

Got there they gave us the keys we then opened the door to the room and there was 2 naked people in bed we went back to the reception and told them what we saw they said that was not possible we waited while he checked then came back and gave us a different room we are unsure what to think of that situation

Lots of mold on the ceiling and a almost brown dirty pillow there were 2 TV's in the room one was smashed and one worked I would still definitely book this place again its well worth the laugh

The Staff were very friendly and helpful. Not sure why so many people complain about this hotel you get what you pay for , myself and family will definitely go back. The room was lovely and warm and very clean . We liked the fact the staircase had the walls painted bright different colours which was a great way of finding which level you were on . Very cheerful It's a beautiful building Thank you staff , keep smiling 😁

No complaints

Room was clean Bed was comfortable Bath and shower Staff were super friendly ask them for anything and they will help. Best of all was the huge balcony looking over to the ocean and far far over Torquay! This is the hotel to stay at for luxury and relaxation 👍 Also the price was so cheap we have stayed in hotels that charge double sometimes triple that don't meet the high standards of this hotel!

We couldn't fault the hotel it was perfect in every sense of the word! There were no negatives!

Before I stayed here, I wanted to see what the reviews said as the hotel is 2*… after staying, I am genuinely shocked that people expect so much. People are so greedy, how can you complain about having a roof for £26? I chose the economy room, the room came with a TV, kettle, shampoo/conditioner, HOT WATER! The staff were absolutely lovely aswell - we were even shown to our room! How can you give this hotel a low rating? My experience here was really nice, especially for what we paid!

The only thing I can understand from the bad reviews is that yes, the hotel does need touching up and a little more care, but for the price?? You can’t knock it, and if you do, it speaks volumes about how ungrateful you are for the things you have in life.
