The staff members, especially in the dining room, were very friendly & helpful. We really appreciated their attention to detail.

The hotel overall was really nice but the surrounding area seems a bit seedy in spots. We witnessed two incidents with people arguing, one with physical contact, probably due to too much alcohol consumption. There weren’t any police or security in the area. The town has an amazing collection of historic buildings that need to be restored/renovated with a lot of potential to be more attractive & secure. Preservation could be a real asset to making the surrounding area more financially stable. Also, our daughter completed the Wales Coast Walk while we were there & Newport can do a lot more to market this & attract the walkers to stay at your hotel & spend money! :)

Well located, modern and very clean. The staff were very friendly and the location was central and easily accessible. We stayed for travel to watch the rugby at the Principality in Cardiff and it was perfect for a cheaper option than Cardiff. Only a 10min walk to the train station and then a 10-15min train journey into Cardiff (about £5.60 return I think). Newport was a good base for us and I would recommend this option. There is enough nightlife to have a few drinks and a nightcap (although not overly busy or rowdy). Enjoyed the good breakfast selection and the restaurant was modernly furnished. The lady server at breakfast was very cheery and welcoming. If ever we are staying near Newport again or going Cardiff we would definitely come back. Very nice hotel, could not fault it!

The stay was as expected. Breakfast was good. Well made and hot, good selection. Dinner was also very good. The location is alright. It’s in the centre of the city. Good for shopping. Rooms have nice airconditioning that keep the rooms nice and cool. The view from the hotels higher floors is impressive. It's only a short walk from the parking garage. And this garage is cheap to park. For 2 days it only cost us 6,50 pounds.

There were a few problems with water not draining quick from the sink and shower. Causing the shower to overflow. But other than that the hotel is nice.

We stayed here one night because it is within walking distance of the Newport Passport Office. We arrived at 9.30 pm and received a warm welcome from Tasiane on reception. It feels like a brand new hotel and the room on the 10th floor was very clean, well equipped with a commanding view over the river Usk. Slept very well in the comfortable bed. Breakfast was better than expected with exceptionally tasty mushroom, tomato and bacon. Late checkout was available but our passport appointment was quick and on time so we did not need extra time.

We knew that there was no on-site parking so we left the car in the Friars Walk car park. Signing to the hotel inside the car park would have been helpful. And there really should be directions provided in the Booking.com email.

Only a short walk from the railway station. Perfect location to shopping centres, restaurants and bars. The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean, with amazing views of the Riverside, and surrounding area. (We were on the 12th floor). Restaurant was fabulous, and food was great - huge portions. (We had fish and chips - post Marathon food for me!!) The 24hr Gym is located on the 3rd floor, next to the restaurant and bar, and although it's small and compact, there's a running machine, bike, and cross trainer, and lots of weights... there's also complimentary towels, and water available. Reception staff were very helpful, and accommodating. You contact them via a qr code link which goes to WhatsApp, I messaged for extra towels, and they brought them to my room immediately. Will definitely be visiting this new hotel again.

There wasn't anything I didn't like.

Staff were all excellent our room and shower room was lovely v comfortable however bed was in an odd direction not facing TV? Excellent restaurant, and bar and we liked the outside seating bar area with decking to soak up a little sun We had a lovely Quiet room which was perfect! Perhaps hotel would consider including continental breakfast within the room price

For the room rate we paid we feel continental breakfast could be included Breakfast per person seemed expensive Bed facing the wrong way and not sure why? made it difficult to watch a bit of TV?? There was plenty of room to swing the bed around to face TV??

Friendly and helpful staff, great looking hotel throughout, adequate in room facilities, very comfy bed, great views from the room, location is brilliant right in the heart of a vibrant and entertaining part of town, lots of interesting places within a short drive to go and explore too, would 100% return again

Parking facilities close but cost extra (would be good if the hotel subsidised this), one coffee cup in room was dirty (other cup was clean though 👍 ), would be useful to have a small shelf to use in the shower for shampoo, would also have been good to have two large towels rather than one, man behind the bar was also quite condescending towards young girl asking for help when serving us. On the whole no major negatives, it really was a wonderful stay.

After my original place of stay that i had booked underwent a change of management and the reviews went way down , i needed to find somewhere else within a few weeks of travel and the Mercure had the best reviews of all on Trip Advisor . It was easy to find with loads of shops on the doorstep . The staff were excellent throughout , the room top notch ( the bed was comfier than a lot of others i've used lately on stays in hotels this year ) and i would definitely stay there again if ever i need to come to Wales for any more events .

THe staff on reception Tas and Karin were perfect, attentive, and nothing was too much trrouble. The breakfast was vey good and catered well for coeliacs. our breakfast server Poppy was excellent and most attentive

the first morning of our stay we left our room at 11.00 am and returned to find that our room had not been made and a note left on our door saying that they didnt want to disturb us although we didnt hear any knock and had left out the clean room note. On the plus side, room cleaning on the subsequent day was very good. A small niggle was many of the cups had small chips, probably due to dishwasher???? Another little niggle was the very limited selection of white wines at the bar

The customer service, everyone was happy and wrlcoming.

Everything was excellent. Except a bottle of white wine was ordered at £24.50 on the menu, was charged £26.25, i quiered it straight away and was advised i was correct and reception would refund it to my card. The following day on checking out, i asked reception, who were not aware, i had to go and take a picture of the white wine menu (there isn't any white wine at £26.25) i was assured i would get a call by today, but i have to say apart frim that was amazing highly recommend.
