A perfect location for exploring the town, harbour, and walk to Tankerton. A lovely seaview first floor room.

The sharp wooden corners of the King size bed - ouch! My husband found the bed too soft. Everything else was perfect.

The rooms were clean and well looked after while we were there … The facilities in the room were excellent … The breakfasts were excellent … The dinner menu was a little too limited but expertly cheffed - really impressed … The service from all staff including the youngsters in the restaurant was of a very high standard … Couldn’t fault it

The claim of limited parking is an exaggeration, there is virtually no chance of parking and we were directed to a residential road some 150 yards away which was irritating … It would be a truer description to say there is little chance of parking at the hotel …

Location was fantastic for Whitstable right on the beach with brilliant views of bay and sunsets. The whole building is light and airy. Room was spotless and tastefully decorated , loved the Bruce Williams paintings every where. Breakfast was very good , hot and fresh. All the staff were friendly and welcoming from receptionists, kitchen staff to housekeeping.

There's no lift and lots of stairs but it's an old building with lots of character and can't say ' I didn't like it'! Could have done with a couple of drawers in the room. The car park is very small but get there early, leave car there and take the bus!

We stayed in Penny Lodge. A 3 bedroom house decorated in the 70's style & owned by the Hotel Continental. It's situated right behind the hotel, has its own parking space & is a minutes walk from the beach! It has a flight of stairs up to the single level house from the car back at the back, but is level with the street at the front which was excellent for me as I have mobility issues. The layout of the house was fab & was filled with natural light & sunshine to the back of the property (the main bedroom, bathroom & living room). We especially loved the huge window at the front of the house (the living room) & the sea views from all the back windows! When sitting on the sofa with a morning coffee, afternoon cuppa or glass of vino, you could see the sea! The hotel had provided everything we needed for our stay & more! We ate out most days but there were provisions for cooking if we wanted to. I'm sure if we needed anything extra the hotel would have happily provided for us. The hotel breakfast was exceptional, made daily by Debs who was so lovely! All of the staff including reception, bar, cleaners & waiting staff were very lovely! They were friendly, smiling & attentive. For my first holiday since 2018... staying at Penny Lodge was the best choice I could have made! Especially for my first UK holiday since childhood! I cannot say enough good things about my experience in Whitstable & staying with the Hotel Continental. We will def be back!

Two things: 1. A blind in the bathroom would be much appreciated. Even though the window has privacy glass, it does overlook the car park & with the light on in the evening & the shower being see through I felt expose. My husband put bin bags up to give us privacy. Also a blind in the kitchen as it overlooks the car park also. 2. A little cleaner & little maintenance outside such as removal of cobwebs might be advantageous too.

Loved that it was right on the beach front and was perfect for a chill few days. Breakfast included a full English which was great, and also had a bar so you could have a rest there before going up to your room. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Whitstable itself was lovely and we really enjoyed walking along the sea front and going along the high street that had many independent shops. If you enjoy your beer then most places served the local brews which were lovely.

Nothing really on the hotel, just be mindful it's a fair walk to the high street. But we knew that and it didn't bother us, we walked pretty much everywhere anyways.

The location of the hotel is really good, right on the sea side. We didn't book a sea view room but we did have a nice little terrace with some deck chairs to enjoy the last summer sun. The room itself was really tiny, really small but very comfortable to be honest. Good not too soft mattress, good bed. Nice clean bathroom with good warm shower. Everything was really clean. Breakfast was good as well, good croissants! We did miss some cheeses/ham etc but there were eggs, sausages, beans etc... Staff friendly. Free parking in the back. We'd come back for sure!

Room was very small, if you travel with big suitcases this might be a bit difficult. But we didn't ;-) and it was a cosy comfortable room in the end.

I've stayed at The Continental many times over the years and have always enjoyed the brilliant location for walking into town or the beach. The rooms are spotless and bright, food great and the staff very cheerful and helpful. Nothing better than sitting outside the front of the hotel with a drink until the sun goes down.

Some of the rooms are quite small for two people if you were staying for more than a couple of nights. There isn't a lift so for elderly and less mobile people the stairs could be a problem. Service at the bar can be a bit slow when it gets busy and there is only one person on duty.

It's the 3rd time we've stayed at The Continental and I can't imagine we'd stay anywhere else in Whitstable. The rooms are nice and light and clean and if you're lucky enough to have a sea view, you'll have nice touches like binoculars to look out to sea with. The food is nice and feels home-cooked and the staff were particularly helpful this time round, not that there's ever been any complaints before, and managed to get some food for me and my partner before the kitchen closed.

Our room this time overlooked the car park but was still a nice room and part of the view was sea and trees so I'm really clutching at straws for something negative to say!

Everything!! The location is perfect for a short and lovely stroll to the harbour and Lobster Shack. Penny Lodge is so cool! Spacious and really well equipped, the decor is super and it's incredible value for money. You're welcomed into the hotel for breakfast too which was so lovely. All of the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming which creates a really warm atmosphere. There are lots of convenience touches like the parking and a more than reasonable check out time which makes the stay at this hotel feel completely geared to the guests enjoying themselves rather than other commercial motivations which you can sometimes get at hotels. Can't recommend enough.

Wonderful hotel in a great spot. . Parking was very useful. Staff really lovely in all areas and lunch at the restaurant was delicious. Good fast check in and took our luggage until room was ready. Room was spotless, bright and well presented. Little terrace to have morning coffee. The downstairs front terrace of hotel was the perfect spot to watch the sunset over a glass of wine. I would definitely stay here again.

We are both tall (6ft) , large people and unfortunately found our bedroom and bed very small. My husband nearly fell out during the night and i wasn't much better. Whilst this is not something the hotel could help, it is worth noting and maybe checking if you stay here.
