My friend and I thought the beds were some of the most comfortable we've ever slept in at a hotel. The heated pool was fantastic and I was the only one in it since it was "winter" there. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The parking lot is easily accessible and a great price.

It took a while for the room to heat up the first night. Also, the block going south and the block going east are VERY sketchy. Once you go just a few blocks south, it's City Hall and the Ballet and the Symphony, but the immediate vicinity has a lot of people smoking crack. If this will bother you, you might want to stay somewhere else.

A fun place: old-school motel fixed up nicely in a hipster kinda way :) Kids loved the pool -- the courtyard is as cool and inviting a place to sit as it looks in the photos.

Only downside is the that the neighborhood is a little more gritty than some people might be comfortable with. But inside the property was clean and felt totally safe. Not that we had any issues walking around, even after dark -- it's a pretty easy 10-min walk to the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (we came to SF to see a concert there). But definitely a little edgier than someplace like Northbeach, or the more touristy parts of town.

The Phoenix Hotel is a beautiful hotel ran by kind people! I love the customer service and vibe of this hotel. it is also perfect for social media posts.

the only thing I can say is not the best about this hotel is it’s location but I’m from the area and work in a area like this so I’m used to it and I know that it’s not the hotel or it’s staffs fault. the city just needs to focus on cracking down on public drug use and selling and helping the homeless find shelter. it’s more sad then scary.

So cool, such amazing staff, total oasis, very comfortable and good value, excellent bar, great coffee and pool

Same as just about every other review - the homeless situation around the hotel is upsetting. I didn’t feel unsafe at all but you are squarely confronted with the social problems as soon as you leave the hotel. But checking my privilege and if it spurs me into action then it is good to be confronted by it.

I was attending a concert at August Hall and wanted accommodation close to the venue with private parking. Tenderloin is a pretty sketchy area with lots of homeless people, trash, and rats...but with a lot of good concert venues. This hotel is a little oasis, with a beautiful garden settings and pool behind closed walls. You leave Tenderloin behind you when you pass through their gates. And the private parking was non-negotiable for me.

The restaurant was closed all the time I stayed there. I would have loved a cup of coffee and breakfast before I departed in the morning.

For some, the location in the Tenderloin could be a deterrent, but we love it! The close proximity to many fun bars and restaurants, reasonably priced parking, and the fun decor are just a few highlights. This was our second stay here and it won’t be the last!

When other guests walk past your room you can hear them very clearly, but the rooms do block sounds from outside the premises. I would have liked to have had a mini-fridge in the room.

The relaxed vibe, the pool, the free coffee at all times of day. It was great waking up, putting on a gown and going down to the lobby with a mug to get coffee to drink by the pool. Everyone was doing it, it felt like a nice community. Laundry was also reasonably priced - by weight rather than by piece like you get in most hotels. The room was trendy and comfortable, though some of the fittings/sheets looked a little worn.

Lots of cigarette butts around the courtyard/pool. Some noisy other guests. The neighbourhood is dodgy for sure with lots of homeless and drug dealers around, but I walked alone in the day and night and nobody ever bothered me. The front desk staff do look out for guests.

I loved my room, it was so clean and the bed was comfortable. The bar was so cool, I was staying while we are still living with covid restrictions so it wasn't really as vibrant as I imagine it is normally! Super cool pool area and patio for hanging out in.

I could hear my neighbors pretty clearly though, and they were ... let's say ... partying hard!

the staff were so accommodating, friendly, welcoming and responsive. the courtyard, trees and pool area are awesome. Rooms comfortable.

the neighborhood is really rough- actually totaling disgusting with human feces on sidewalks, trash everywhere, drug transactions and people smoking drugs. wouldn’t walk around after dark - felt ok in the daytime but got out of the surrounding streets quickly. bathrooms are small but have all you need!

Staff were very welcoming and friendly, the beds are very comfortable and the pool area is a really nice place to hang out. For SF the Phoenix is also great value for money.

The area is a little bit rough as it’s on the edge of tenderloin, however it wasn’t as bad as we were expecting. We didn’t have any issues walking to and from public transport, but we did choose to get a taxi at night. The room was maybe a little bit tired and could maybe do with a refresh but all-in-all we had a great stay.
