Very nice place great value. Lots of stairs. 3 floors no elevator no air conditioning. But your not paying 240.00 to 300.00. They are a pretty good deal. Great view, pool, coke machine. Right next to a very nice beach park Reeds bay good swimming great views and you might get to see a crews ship pulling in to port and the largest Japanese garden outside of Japan. Right on hilo bay. The hole community uses this beautiful place. Plenty of places to eat near by a big variety to choose from. Try Ken's houses of pancakes. You won't be disappointed. And the hole staff is the best allways friendly and very accommodating.... stayed there 4 times allways good.

Like many of the buildings in Hawaï, the hotel building has worn out feel, but the rooms are well maintained, clean, and the bed super comfortable. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. We didn't use the swimming pool. There are so many wonderful beaches closeby which we preferred to go to instead. The hotel is very well located, just a few steps away from the Hilo garden, which is a very wandering about.

I don't think this is specific to this place; the prices on the Big Island are just super high. Calibrated to the offerings in Hawaï, the Reeds Bay Hotel is a very good place.

I loved it! The property was tucked away by the bay, and hearing the water splash on the shoreline daily was wonderfully relaxing and refreshing. The view of the bay was beautiful as well. The staff was amazing and friendly, always helpful and accommodating for a solo traveler like myself. I’m so glad I checked into this place after a disappointing experience at an Airbnb earlier that same day. While Hawaii is known for its charm, the Airbnb I stayed at initially had none of it, so I canceled and booked this fine hotel last minute. Here, they treat their customers with kindness and respect.

It’s right on the water! The view from our room was amazing, especially knowing the room rate was cheap compared to the ritzy resorts. We liked that it was a local hotel, that we were in a place that was real Hawaii, if that makes sense. Sure it looks old, but when you take a step back and look at it, it was a super cute hotel that felt like Hawaii. The workers were really friendly and so were the guests; everyone said hello in passing. I’m not sure why everyone is complaining about it having no AC - you genuinely don’t need it! The “Hawaiian AC” worked perfectly at night - keeping the windows open to get the breeze, with the room fan on to circulate it. And the sound of the waves breaking on the coast helped put us to sleep.

The shower was a little small and the shower head was mounted a bit low.

This property is great for travelers that are looking for an ocean view (Hilo Bay) in a property that is smaller with a vintage vibe. Our room had a kitchenette with a provided electric fry pan (no stove or oven). Good water pressure in the shower. No AC, but the room had an overhead fan plenty of windows (corner room) and a sliding glass door that gave us good cross ventilation. We also enjoyed watching the cruise ship come in and out of the bay during our stay.

The property could use some TLC and upgrades. For example, the railings outside our sliding glass door could benefit from some rust removal and a new coat of paint. I didn't notice ramp options to the stairs, so something to ask about if you have mobility issues.

I had forgotten that these rooms have large fridges that actually work and working freezer, microwave, kitchen sink and dishes. What a bonus. And the rooms are so quiet compared to the newer hotels. Having the nephew (retired police officer) provide security is an added bonus, although we felt completely safe. The pool was wonderful - just big enough for my husband to swim laps and had the place to ourselves. Really appreciate a nice, reasonably priced, locally owned hotel for times when I need to stay overnight in Hilo.

Not wheelchair accessible, BUT just a few steps to my first floor room was doable. I knew this going in, so was prepared.

This is an older hotel with no lift and no air-conditioning. It had both ceiling and floor fans. Our room was quiet, apart from a bit of noise from the occasional plane landing at the local airport. Our bathroom had a nice walk in shower, the main room had a larger than usual fridge and a good microwave. The parking area is at the front area of the hotel. There was a laundry for guests. One helpful item was a book of information about the hotel and surroundings. It was very convenient for visiting the Volcanoes National Park.

Everything was fine and we hope to go back when next in Hilo.

Pleasant overall, great beach location, very nice staff. "Old School" hotel, not huge. Kitchenette in room. Low price. Very clean. Good fan ventilation (note: no A/C). Good restaurants an easy walk away. Wonderful Japanese garden also a short walk away.

My room was on the "parking lot side." So no great view. Also, at dawn the birds were so loud that they woke me up! I recommend to get a room on the scenic "beach side." My bed wasn't real comfortable, so I could have slept better. TV did not have many channels.

The most gracious and accommodating staff. Lilly, the hotel receptionist was outstanding and extremely helpful in providing the perfect room for us and giving excellent restaurant recommendations. Kevin, the Security Officer assisted us with directions and parking. Our room had a beautiful view, very clean, and had all the comforts of home. The hotel is in an excellent location, easy walk to restaurants and next to a park.

The building is a little dated, as is the carpeting in the hallways but the value for money is excellent. Everything is kept very clean. There is no elevator but we didn't mind the stairs.

Wonderful staff of Ms Peggy and papa Don, Sheri, Emma, Lilly and Kareen are all lovely and make you feel so welcome 😍 very generous of their time to get to know you and point out great attractions to make your stay so memorable 😀 supported by Kevin, Albert, Bruce and special Jeffrey, not to forget the lovely housekeeping crew! Great location on Banyan tree drive and rooms are generous and great value! Highly recommend from the Aussie 👧 Mahalo nui loa
