Breakfast was excellent. We could enjoy Kona coffee, fresh juice and cakes with enjoyable talk with Irene (super-kind host). Location is bit surprising (at first, a bit confusing) because we need to pass two gates to arrive the hotel, hahah ;) but this also makes our trip very special (adventurous). I feel I will never experience similar stay like here. We could access to Volcano national park, Hilo and Rainbow Falls easily. There were lots of animals like cats and birds around the building (not in the rooms), which was also impressive. Anyway, big-thanks to Irene, who is No.1 and only 1 host in Hawaii Island (or even in the world). (and sorry for making our comment too late.) We never forget our trip. See you soon!!

Nothing.

We have arrived very late, around 23h00. It is true that the place may look weird and very very backcountry when you get there at night but Irene was waiting for us and we where very welcome what a great place in the middle of the jungle🫣. You must take time to talk with Irene about what you want to visit, She will be helpfull.

First night we tough we would not be able to sleep because of the noise at night from the frog and birds (we think it was frogs)🤣. But we did get use to very quickly and they stop around midnight. And at the end, we found that funny

A good bed & shower are, as always, the default necessities for a good stay. The owner was very helpful and the breakfast she served, with plenty of local fruits, delicious. She lend me a beach towel because I didn’t bring one myself. The accommodation is very secluded, in a very quiet corner of the island. The rare Hawaiian Hawk in the garden made for a nice surprise.

The entrance road is about 800m/0.5 mile and unsurfaced and passes two gates that need to be opened and closed each time one passes. To us it was fine but I can imagine that people driving an ordinary saloon car might have a little difficulty negotiating the entrance road. The private bathroom was not en-suite but across the little hallway.

We had a wonderful stay at the Tropic Inn! Irene, the owner, is an amazing host, you can really feel that for her running this B&B is a dream come true. Every morning she prepaired a delicious breakfast with fresh fruit from her tropical garden, Kona Coffee, homemade marmelades, juice etc. She also served other local products like bread and yogurt. She gave us a LOT of really good tips, as she knows the island like a true Hawaiian or maybe even better... The room was very big and clean, the beds were comfortable and the shared bathroom was also perfect. Towels were changed really often, as there is a lot of humidity, but there was no bad smell at all, which was great being in the middle of the jungle. You can park the car in front of the house (yes, you definitely need a car to move around!!!) and wifi was working really good. The Tropic Inn is close to the last lava flow, which ist very interesting to see ("end of the road" nearby...). It is a really good location to visit the Vulcano national park and Hilo, amongst others. We definitely recommend this accomodation and wouldn't want to stay elsewhere on Big Island (we know, we have to come back;-))

Only 4 nights... way to short for Big Island!!!

The best thing about our stay was the host. She treats her guests like family. The place is ideally located to get the best of both worlds. You are in the middle of a tropical jungle, but also have easy access to beaches and the volcanic national park. I read one of the comments from a previous guest that the lady was awful. Our experience is that she is a wonderful lady. Other guests can vouch for this. My opinion is that this guy is a total moron.

Everything was great.

The owner/hostess was incredible! She was welcoming even before we arrived at the property, calling us to make sure we would be able to find the property. Then the whole time, she made sure every little details were taken care of. She showed us around her big property that she takes care of herself, gave us fresh fruits straight from the trees to try, and took the time to know what we were looking for around and give us advice. 110/10 would recommend! We look forward to going back - not soon enough!

Nothing, it was perfect! It's a little out of the way since the volcano eruption (and things got destroyed) but don't be scared off (we were a little bit before we actually got to meet the owner) and definitely don't regret staying there!

Who wants to know what it's like to live on that island should take this chance to get to know this very active and lovely lady. To be part of the household including the cats and chickens was wonderful. Who's searching for party, has come to the wrong place. But you can find peace and quiet and just a perfect place to be.

Nothing.. No, really. Nothing. We had tried to think of something we didn't like and couldn't come up with even one tiny thing.

Beautiful place in the middle of paradise. The house is in the middle of nature. The rooms are large and all have their own bathroom. The lady of the house is very lovely and makes breakfast for the guests every morning (fresh fruits from the garden). She can also explain a lot of interesting things about the lava fields. We loved to stay here. 🤩

Lava Tree Tropic Inn is the authentic Big Island Hawaiian experience. It is the perfect place if you want to disconnect and soak up nature and rejuvenate. Irene is a lovely woman who owns the bed and breakfast, preparing locally sourced breakfasts, including avocados, fruits, eggs from chickens on the premise, macadamia nuts, jam, juice, etc. The bed and breakfast itself reminded us of Jurassic Park in that the entry is gated with lush tropical vegetation all around. Extraordinarily, the 2018 eruption saw lava flows just a few hundred meters from the bed and breakfast. The location itself is situated close enough to Pahoa & Hilo and the volcanoes for easy explorations. We stayed here for 8 days and managed to explore most of the island by car. Lastly, Lava Tree Tropic Inn is much more affordable than most anywhere else. Highly recommended!

It was a great experience. The hotel is less then one hour far from the volcano national park and 20 min from Hilo. It's located in the forest and Irene is a great host. She gave us a lot of info, shared her experience in the island and helped giving us some rain jackets that we forgot. She is really adorable and I can only recommend to visit this place especially if u need to disconnect from your daily life. She even showed us her ukulele collection and prepared for us the fruit from her garden.
