I liked the location. I wasn't sure if I was in the right place at first, but it's tucked within a nice neighborhood. The neighborhood is VERY walkable. I enjoyed walking around the neighborhood each day of my stay. The room was not as big as I thought it would be from the pictures, but it did suffice. the closet was very functional and sizeable. I stayed in a hostel in Hollywood, CA that was comparable in price, but it had a TV and a mini fridge. It would have been nice if both were in the room. Nice patio to sit on behind the building. The common area is nice. I just wish people would clean up after themselves, but that's no way the hostel's fault. With all the commotion going on, they should have both screens on closed caption so viewing can be enjoyable and understood. I saw them bring waffles in, but no waffles were served the next day... that was a real bummer. They try to replenish the dishware as quickly as possible. I wish bananas and/or apples could be an option as well and not just oranges. The donuts were hard, stale, not delicious and not even redeemable being warmed up. I just didn't like that people would leave their mess for staff to clean up and holding up space for others. The breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, milk, cereals, bread, donuts, boiled eggs (not daily though), oranges (not enough to last some days), condiments- sugar, honey, hot sauce, salt, pepper, butter, jams... oh and the waffles I didn't get to partake in. The restrooms were relatively clean... as clean as others left the space they used. Shelves inside the showers would be helpful. The elevator is small and slow. Outside of getting luggage to/from room, it was easier/quicker [for me] to take the stairs. The staff were all so nice and helpful, especially the guy that had been or had heard of Hollywood, FL. oan: I'm doing this review from the PC rather than my phone so no photos to add unfortunately.
Th beds. The limited breakfast... but I understood because it's a hostel. No TV nor mini fridge in the room I had that wasn't a shared room. Closed captioning not being on the TV.

I recently stayed at a hostel in a safe neighborhood in Chicago, and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. This was my second stay at this hostel, and I chose to return because of the cleanliness, tranquility, and the ability to get a good night's sleep without any disturbances. The location is fantastic, with many cafes nearby and convenient access to buses 22 and 36, which take you directly to the downtown area. The hostel offers rooms with private toilets and sinks, as well as simpler rooms without these amenities. The shared showers on each floor are always clean. There is a communal kitchen on the first floor, equipped with a stove for cooking, a freezer, a refrigerator, and shelves where guests can store their food. The hostel also provides breakfast, which I would describe as modest, but it's a nice perk. Overall, this hostel is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a comfortable and peaceful stay in Chicago.
However, there were a few drawbacks. In the women's shower, the hot water took an extremely long time to heat up, and the water pressure was very low. It often took about 10 minutes for the water to warm up, and even then, it was lukewarm at best.

We loved staying at the Getaway Hostel! I have a feeling this will be my go to location for Chicago stays from here on out. The private room we had was plenty big and the beds were nice and comfy. The breakfast and kitchen were nice amenities and don’t get me started on Location!! Loved the location here.
The ONLY thing I have feedback on is how hot the rooms were. Our room had a fan, but even with it on high it was stuffy and sweating level hot. We couldn’t open the window per signage asking not to, but for it being in the 50’s outside it felt extremely sticky and hot inside. It was close to probably 74-78 which is definitely not comfortable. The common areas felt great though!

Staying in a hostel for the first time, I expected chaos, but it turned out to be the complete opposite. The staff was incredibly caring, probably the best I've ever encountered! They went above and beyond to accommodate any request and help with anything I needed. The rooms were really nice, and the shared bathrooms were very clean and organized. The kitchen looked like a restaurant kitchen with all the necessary equipment, and it was fully functional, extremely clean, and well-kept. The location was the cherry on top. The Lincoln Park neighborhood, with its townhouses, lined-up trees, birds, and peaceful atmosphere, was just magnificent. Getting a glimpse into what a day in the life of a Chicagoan is like was amazing. Plus, being close to a Trader Joe's was a fantastic bonus.

I’ve been staying here for years and it is a great option for budget travelers or people who are less interested in spending their money on a place to sleep vs doing things. Staff is great and friendly and it is very clean.
As I’ve said I have stayed here for years every few months but whatever is going on with the water pressure was really bad…not just soft but like a dribble in the showers. I heard people talking about this throughout the hotel so I know it wasn’t isolated to one restroom or floor. Please fix this because I really enjoy staying here :)

Our stay here was really great. We booked a double room with a private half bathroom. The bed was super comfortable, and overall there was not too much noise from neighbouring rooms, making for peaceful sleeps. All the facilities (shared washroom with showers, kitchen and dining area, bedroom, common areas) were kept in immaculate shape. The staff were constantly keeping the shared spaces very clean and tidy, which was very appreciated. The kitchen facilities were also very impressive! The overall vibe was also fun and lively, and we enjoyed spending time in the dining room during the evenings. We didn't go outside to the patio, since it was a little chilly, but it looked like a nice spot for warm summer nights. The location, despite being a bit further from the city centre, was great. About a 10 minute walk to the red line which takes you right into the city loop. The neighbourhood was very cozy and quiet, we felt very safe there. Would definitely recommend staying here!
The radiator in the room was a bit too warm for our liking, even after we attempted to reduce the water circulation. Opening the window a crack helped a bit, but it was then rather drafty. Otherwise, no complaints!

The room was clean, and contrary to some of the comments I had read, my experience with the staff was positive. In fact, they accommodated my request for an early check-in at no additional charge, which was greatly appreciated after a 10-hour flight. I loved the location, as it was situated in a peaceful neighborhood, offering a refreshing contrast to the bustling downtown atmosphere. It provided a unique perspective of the city. I highly recommend visiting Lincoln Park and renting a Divvy bike for the experience.
It appears that the heating was not functioning in the shared bathroom, resulting in a notably cold environment after showering. I would recommend keeping this in mind, particularly during the winter months (I stayed there in early November).

Hostel location was excellent with L station (metro) walking distance as well as beautiful Lincoln Park. The hostel building was the largest hostel I have ever stayed in. I stayed in a single deluxe room for one night and then a double with bunk bed for two nights with a friend. We both really enjoyed the experience. I also met so many people from various places; it was a truly international location for travelers willing to take some risks and meet others on their way. I will plan to return if I am needing a reasonable place to stay in Chicago, one of my favorite destinations!
The breakfast could have included some kind of fruit, but then this is a hostel in a very expensive urban location, Chicago.

It was one of the best hostels I've stayed in. We had a private room and right next to the toilet, which was great. The breakfast was simple but lovely. There are lots of areas indoor and outdoor to lounge, and you could even make your own meals. The hostel is in a beautiful and posh neighbourhood, lots of eating and drinking options nearby. Easy bus connections to the centre and walking distance to the lake. They even have laundry service and ready meals to go.
In the mornings, sometimes the toilet was being cleaned when most people wanted to use them, which meant one had to go to a different floor. It was just a minor issue.

The best about hostel is location. You are right there in a sweet neighborhood called Lincoln Park, few blocks away from center. Also it's nice they offer you breakfast every morning. There is not a huge number of choices but still it's breakfast for free. Also there is a fridge with some food you can buy and cook for yourself in the kitchen, so that is also helpful. Front desk staff was really helpful and kind.
Things I didn't like is that even if you rent a private room, you still have to share a bathroom with the whole floor, and also they give you just one small tovel. You can go and ask at the front desk for more tovels though.
