March 2023

Visited the Gateway of the West to walk in the footsteps of Warren Buffett (which would then hopefully lead to improved investment results). Where would the Oracle stay? I think he would avoid the most expensive hotel in Omaha, so The Farnam, Autograph Collection at $250/night+ tax, was most definitely out. I decided to go with the Hotel Deco. It was one of those hotels that has a great downtown location, with acceptable rates. And with solid reviews, I knew that it would be acceptable to everyone involved. I used booking.com to book a fully cancelable room for $111/night + tax, then over the next two weeks canceled and rebooked twice until victory was achieved at $87/night + tax. The room (#914) was a real gem, a very large suite with a desk for blogging this very blog, great views, TCM, and just when you think it can't get any better . . . a defined yoga space. The hotel offered valet parking at $25/night, which seemed a little steep, though there was an adjacent lot at $10/day. The hotel mentioned that street parking (9am-9pm) is metered, though "if you forget to pay the penalty is only $10 if paid within 48 hours." I decided to go with the plentiful street parking and forgot to pay each and every day. Never saw a parking enforcement agent or a parking ticket.

There was a terrible smell in the basement fitness center, that wafted up the elevator on the right. I mentioned this to an employee who informed me with a shrug "it's an old building."

The room was nice and spacious, clean and very presentable. All of the staff were hospitable. Loved the fact that there were only nine room on my floor. Liked the hotel decor, especially the black carpet with the flowers, I found it most beautiful. .

I couldn't get wifi at all while there. Car was not pulled around when requested. Was told I could use my prepaid card and later found out I could not, therefore, the card I hadn't expect to use was charged. I have a mysterious $17 charge on my card. Left an email with the GM, still waiting to hear back.

Rooms were huge with all the amenities. Art and Decor was very cool and in keeping with the hotels original traditions. food was very good. very modern showers with plenty of towels etc. Lots of spaces to work from in the lobby and restaurant areas. Walking distance to Old Town shopping and eating, theater district and river front

wifi was unreliable in the room. Had to go downstairs to use it for my computer however there were several areas that were quite comfortable to work in.

Stayed here with a small group for a fun long weekend. The hotel is really great. Really cool art deco design. Clean, comfortable. My room happened to be quite large, like a suite on the top floor: lots of windows, bit of a view, couch and chairs, really spacious, but I know others in my group had regular-sized typical hotel rooms, but just as lovely. Location is great. Friendly helpful staff. It was nice NOT staying at a big chain hotel…not sure if this on is owned by one of the biggies but they don’t splash that in your face.

Only small nits: no airport transfers. And the water pressure was pretty bad (plenty of hot water which was nice since it was bitterly cold during our trip). Also, curiously, they have these nice shower setups with rainfall shower head along with wall sprayers and a detachable wand, but you can only use one at a time…would have been nice to use the overhead rainfall and the side water jets. But maybe I missed how to do that…

November 2022

In the past when i have traveled I usually go with friends or family who pick out the hotel for me. This is the first time i got to pick since it was a trip i was going to by myself. The minute I saw my room I was in love and had no regrets picking this hotel. I expected a room in the middle and one or two windows. Instead I got a corner room with 4 window and on THE 10TH FLOOR (out of 11)!!! I know that it's only the corner room that gets this but I didn't request it so I was happy with it. I also got the pretty side of the hotel looking down at the theater. Not only was the room beautiful but also the lobby. The decoration was on par with the thd Mad Hatter theme they had going on. The restaurant that was downstairs was really good too. I don't usually like or order fish but that night I felt like changing it up a bit. I had the salmon and it was the best one I've ever had. It was flavorful and not dry and the vegetables that came with it paired well with the fish. I think the sauce was amazing too. The next day I walked and rented a scooter and was able to check out most of the surrounding blocks within 3 hours including getting breakfast nearby. Gene Leahy Mall was really close that was a 3-4 min scooter ride away and when i looked it up it was only a 10 min walk. The same could be said for Old Market. That same night I had asked one of the receptionist if she ever heard anything good about a bar nearby, unfortunately she said she hadn't but if I went I should let her know what my thoughts were incase anyone else asked. After that she recommended the Wicked Rabbit which was right next door. I went to the first bar and when I came back she asked me right away how it went. The conversation was very genuine and much appreciated! I also went to the Wicked Rabbit and it was the coolest bar i've been too. It was a speakeasy and i wouldn't have found it or gone there if she hadn't recommended it and told me the name of the "front.

The furnishings and the hotel name matched the hotel’s architecture. My room had wood laminate flooring. The hotel was closely located to many restaurants and attractions. As a single woman traveller, I felt very safe. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

I wish the hotel and Charles Schwab Stadium were a little bit closer together.

The historic hotel has all the charm and character of yesteryear but with the comforts of today. We loved the Art Deco architecture and furnishings and the quirky Alice in Wonderland touches. The staff were fun and helpful. The food in the restaurant was delicious. The hotel is located an easy walk from Old Market destinations and a short drive to museums and the Zoo. Our stay at the hotel made our Omaha vacation something special!

The restaurant was short staffed and not open for breakfast. We appreciated the complimentary breakfast bar, but the selections went fast.

the staff was amazing and the room was beautiful and clean. the location was amazing as we were here to see a play at the Orpheum!

the noises coming from outside unfortunately were Horrible!!!! sirens went ALL night long! and pretty sure I heard afight going on outside in the middle of the night, , but was to tired to get up and check it out. . I loved having valet parking.....but its a shame they have to charge so much!!!!!!!!!! when i booked the room, I felt like I was getting a great deal.....but after all the extra taxes etc......it ended up being VERY pricey!!!!

Bed was comfy and the size of the room was large enough to make use of a pack and play inside for my baby daughter to sleep in. Made use of the Nespresso machine and the fridge. Restaurant and bar were beautifully art deco. Made use of the park and water play area in the evening.

Was staying over near the Convention Center and needed to transfer over to this hotel. Was not that easy to get to, needed to use an Uber.

Rooms were nice size, comfortable beds, great towels, very clean!

Water pressure in shower was bad. Water coming out of shower head was barely enough to rinse with. Also no hooks to hang up towels! One knob in the bathroom for either one towel or one hand towel. Add some hooks
