The view from my room was the best part of my stay and the staff was excellent. Always a good vibe of happiness every day from the front door to the front desk very welcoming. Never made it to the pool area but the pictures were another reason why I chose the Renaissance lakefront hotel. So many places to walk to a tour and food of all cuisines. And to top it all off this great hotel put me right at my son's shipyard. Now how great is that. That there was so much to do I never make it to the hotel pool lol but I don't regret a thing I shall return to the Renaissance lakefront hotel again matter of fact every time I go to Portsmouth Virginia this is where I must stay.

Overall the visit was beyond my expectations.We traveled with our service dog and all the staff was super helpful from our arrival until we left the premesis.

When we made the reservatiions I called and spoke to a lady at the front desk she was very rude. I was asking about my service dog and she was snappy and said paperwork or I would pay a fee. Upon arrival at 330 in the morning the staff that checked us in was amazing. Her customer service skills and her delightfulness and caring about my concerns for my pet was superb. I thanked her over and over again.

The rooms were nice and clean. The views were perfect. The breakfast buffet was delicious.

Even though I reserved and paid for the room a week before. They waited until I got to the hotel to tell me that I had to pay $58 just in case there were going to be any damages but it would be refunded to me within 7 to 10 business days. They did refund me the money within 5 days but what if I wouldn't have had that $58 on my card I wouldn't have had anywhere to stay that night. Other than that my experience was wonderful. The hotel was beautiful and it was clean I will definitely be returning for another stay.

I love the location... right on the waterfront. I walked over to the ferry, and for less than $5 I purchased a roundtrip ticket to the Norfolk side! It was wonderful! The decor was modern yet classic and well-designed. Unique furnishings. On site parking. Fire pits and a nice walking path. So many things to like!

My stay was only one night 😞. I will be back for a longer stay! Also the pool was out of order. I wasn't fond of the breakfast offered. It was expensive IMO. I found a cool spot in Norfolk

The best part of our stay was the room we stayed in and Shawn (our waitress during breakfast). She was so welcoming and patient and we talked about how wonderful her service was on the drive back to Charlotte. It's unfortunate how service has gone down in many establishments because everyone is short staffed. Shawn was running around like a chicken with no head, but her wonderful demeanor never waivered. If she is eligible for a raise or any special recognition, GIVE IT TO HER!!!

Everything about this hotel is fantastic! The whole building is absolutely gorgeous, and the rooms are huge. I love the dark ceiling and backlight behind the headboard. The view from our window was perfect, and the whole room was very clean. Front desk staff are welcoming and friendly. This hotel is in the perfect location. I would definitely stay here again!

There is nothing not to like in this hotel.

The hotel is well appointed, beautiful views and updated rooms. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom fresh and updated. The only complaint on the rooms is that the barn door style doors to the bathroom don’t really have a seal or weather stripping. It makes all the noise and some of the light escape the bathroom which is unfortunate for the person sharing the room, especially if they are trying to sleep. Other than that, the hallways, rooms are great. The breakfast restaurant is a bit dated as are some of the lobby features, but is suspect judging from the rooms they too will be getting a refresh soon. It still doesn’t affect the ability to enjoy and benefit from those areas. The coffee station in the morning is good, parking is very good. The luggage carts and ability to access them with the long walk leaves a bit to be desired however. The neighborhood is great. Historic neighborhood is attractive. Local restaurants are nice. Starbucks and wawa are close by, so most everything you need of staying for some days.

A few small updates as mentioned in the previous section.

Our room was very nice. It had all necessary components needed for a nice stay. I loved the view of Waterside across the Harbor.

I wish we were directly facing the Harbor instead of the apartment building across the street. Also, the desk at the window is way too large, taking up space. The desk should be smaller and instead have two chairs at that window for guests to sit and enjoy the view.

Booked here because of proximity to concert location. It was walking distance to the venue. Check in was for 4pm, when we arrived at 5pm our room still wasn’t ready. Slightly disappointing as it seemed we were getting shorter time in which we had paid for. But we didn’t wait too much longer, maybe an additional 30 minutes. Clean, friendly, rooms are modern and super cute. Would definitely stay again.

They might want to bump up check out time if they can’t can’t turn the rooms around quickly enough.

Love the location. Beautiful hotel.

Had to change rooms twice due to unclean bedding. Staff was really professional, patient and helpful with resolving issue. I suggest the mattress covers be changed and washed not just sprayed. It leaves stains which is not appealing. Floors not thoroughly swept and mopped. It would have been nice to have a closet and mirror in the room. Once we were settle in all else was great. I loved the view from our room and the location was perfect. I would stay again.
