We felt lucky to stay at the Lucky Hotel. With its retro, yet stylish decor and clever renovation, the Lucky Hotel has managed to create a unique, cosy place to stay while acknowledging the heart of industrial Newcastle. It beats staying at the usual boring chain hotels. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to assist us, and the location was brilliant. The beautiful foreshore, the Civic theatre, and Hunter Street were a very short walk away, and if you felt like a good walk, the very cool Derby Street wasn't too far away either. The electric tram stop was literally outside the door if you wanted to get to Newcastle Beach. I highly recommend it.

Although there are many cafes nearby, it would have been great to have a simple breakfast available, as the atrium is such a wonderful place to spend some time.

This was an atmospheric hotel fortunately within my price range. Spacious, comfortable and very clean rooms. The lady who checked me in was nice. Bed was just a touch soft for my taste, however, tastes differ. It was also conveniently right near an L tram stop which is a few stops from the main Newcastle Exchange station, and also a few stops from Newcastle beach. In my offtime, I have to say that the Newcastle beach and several harbors are beautiful, even had a couple nice huge pools supported by the city. There was also a very large and convenient Metro supermarket just a couple blocks away. Also the bar/restaurant was really great, wonderful food and drinks, and staff was very pleasant.

The hotel is one of the best businesses in the city! It's conveniently located, has an amazing vibe and we felt spoiled thanks to the nice deals and gifts offered to the guests. The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay delightful. A big thank you to the reception, the bar/restaurant and the housekeeping staff. You all do an amazing job. The food and the drinks are nice too. We will definitely be back when we visit Newcastle again!

Nothing! I have noticed that other reviews mention the noise: just be mindful that it is a live music venue on Friday and Saturday nights, but it did not bother us at all since they finish pretty early (not later than 1 am).

We really enjoyed our stay at The Lucky Hotel. Unfortunately, due to a last minute flight cancellation, we were unable to fly to Newcastle on the day we had intended and therefore missed out on the first day of our booking. Jessica, on checking in, was extremely helpful and considerate. She gave us a token for a free bottle of wine for our troubles and couldn't do enough for us. The room itself was extremely clean, in a great location and had very comfortable beds. We were a little nervous about the noise as we knew there was music at weekends in the bar downstairs, however the music stopped at 11 on Saturday (we could hardly hear it from our room btw) and the bar closed at 9.30 on the Sunday so we had a great night's sleep. I would highly recommend this hotel for future visitors to Newcastle.

We booked this hotel not knowing what it would be like, but it was fantastic. Being a Monday night it was very quiet, but may not be that on Friday and Saturday when they have live music. The room size was fine and the bathroom size was great. We had a lovely room overlooking the courtyard. It was a perfect location as we could easily jump on the Light Rail and get to Newcastle Beach. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.

No secure storage for bikes. We would make a regular overnight stay here if we could securely lock up our electric bikes.

Wow! The Lucky hotel is absolutely incredible and such amazing value for money. A beautifully decorated hotel, bar and restaurant. The staff are very helpful, friendly and polite. Our room was clean, tidy and minimal, so it felt really relaxing, also had a nice little balcony for some fresh air. The bed and pillows was extremely comfortable and house keeping came daily to tidy our room and give us fresh towels etc. The complimentary chocolate is such a nice touch and well the hotel, food and bar is absolutely exceptional. I would rate this place a 11/10, would highly recommend. Incredible value for money. I’m sad to leave. Would have love to stay longer. Make sure to try the Sunday roast, the best I’ve had in Australia, being English this is a big compliment.

Nothing to dislike it was absolutely perfect!

I loved the room! It was spacious, the bed super comfy, the ensuite was a decent size. Nice hot shower. There was tea & coffee and cute little kettle. Also, some chocolate from somewhere local. (I forgot from where?) My room overlooked Hunter Street and I can't say the noise bothered at all. There is a light rail stop right outside and I never heard it until I opened the door to the balcony. The balcony was small but room for a small table and 2 chairs. Very private. I didn't spend much time in the rest of the venue. Had a couple of drinks in bar before going out. Would love to come back for another longer visit. Great place with awesome atmosphere

Room was fine and the check in process was easy enough. Balcony added some interest to the room, We only stayed one night but I would have been happy to stay a bit longer and actually enjoy the pub offering downstairs. We were there on a Friday night and had no problems with noise from the pub. Lack of parking was flagged as an issue by others but we just used the high rise park on the far side of the road, it was not expensive overnight on a Friday, use you electronic map to find carpark, you need to drive a fair way down past the hotel before turning off left into the waterfront area and then coming the distance back to where the park is, which is not far from the hotel. The tram line is just there to take you into the centre without having to drive.

Really, if you keep the room in context there is nothing to complain about, but yes the room was fairly small, so it is likely you will fall over your bags a bit. Standard small bar fridge as expected. No it is not super central, use the tram or drive if you need get closer to the centre.

Renovated and beautifully presented with a Florida style theme of flamingoes and 1950s suitcases in the lobby. A little kitsch but so amazingly quaint. I loved the bar and restaurant with fresh, quality food and a high ceiling, rough brick, dangling lights that gave it a fairy light feel, and summery atmosphere, even in the winter. Bed was comfortable, location was close to the riverside promenade for a morning stroll, not far from the beach and directly on the light rail line. Bathroom was clean and well serviced.

I would have liked a larger, more stable desk for work with appropriate chair. Curtains needed better attachment to wall.

Liked venue, price, position, room allowed for me and my 2 adult daughters to stay together. The restaurant had a good vibe and nice meals and not too noisy although slow service.

Three people were booked in, the sofa bed was made up prior to our arrival, which was nice but it meant no where for us to sit and chat comfortably except on the beds, There were 3 wine glasses yet there were only two coffee cups and not enough tea or coffee for three people staying overnight. The girls night in package we paid for consisted of a white wine not a sparkling one a bottle of orange juice that was frozen and couldn’t be poured - this was not the mojitos advertised and a very meagre packet of chocolate. Not value for money - would have done better to served the drinks package from the bar! We were not aware that there was a DJ and music till after 12am right below the bedrooms! but luckily we were all so tired we went to sleep despite the loud music.
