Simple room, great place to use as a base for exploring Newcastle. The bed was comfortable and the bed linen and towels were good. There are two shower rooms and one had clearly been decorated more recently than the other and I much preferred the newer of the two but that's just a personal preference. There was some noise from the pub below but this didn't go on late at all and didn't keep me awake. There were some great local musicians who played while I was there and the pizzas are really good! The lock on the door to my room was a bit 'loose', it was secure but rattled a little and didn't inspire confidence. It's not a massive issue but something that would make any guest staying feel more comfortable if it was addressed...

Clean and surprising spacious single room. Bed was comfortable, and the shared bathrooms located nearby in the hallway. Convenient location with ample on street parking. Can definitely recommend the pizza from the hotel bistro! Noise from the pub was audible but not offensively loud. Loved the character of the building and its locality. Great for a short stay and very good value for money.

The pipes are noisy when the shower hasn't been used in a while. Like, wake you up noisy. Probably not an issue if your room isn't located right next to a bathroom, but if you are, be prepared for the occasional loud vibrating groan from the pipes. Wouldn't stop me from staying here again, but might be a not negotiable for others.

Loved the location. Loved the price. Loved the hotel and loved the pizza ( I have never had pizza for dinner × 3) A new experience each time. Wow! Nearly 60 and easily jaded. Really pleasantly surprised. Great staff. Kind and caring and helpful people. Good people. A very easy vibe. Felt safe and supported as 2 women travellers. Stayed for Xmas to be close to nearbye family and 94 yr old mum. I hope to rebook for next year. Thankyou Oriental Hotel Cooks Hill. Xxx

The rooms are located on top of a pub, it seems to be renovated, the rooms are big and the communal bathroom is clean, there is also a kitchen. The staff was really nice, i could store my luggage until the evening and could sit in the hallway until i needed to leave. Check in was easy. There is a supermarket 10min away and there are restaurants three streets further.

The window did not close completly, so i heard the wind blowing through it was making noises

The pizzas down stairs were to die for definitely the best pizza I’ve had before. I had the one with potato and rosemary with plum sauce literally freaking amazing . The room had two beds was clean . Comfortable and price was good .showers were communal and always kept clean . Showers were always free when needed.

The showers kept going super hot then really cold . Didn’t do it on the first night I stayed so maybe something to do with the tanks or something.

The room was huge, the bed and linen was wonderful. The location was great and it is a really nice neck of the woods. We went for a walk on Sunday morning and its a lovely suburb and close to the main town. The facilities were shared but very clean and adequate. exception value for money. I Would stay there again.

There was music playing on Sat night but it was cruisy music so it was ok. Our room was right above it so we could hear it but it was ok and didnt interfere with our sleep. There was no loud pub noise at closing time

The rooms and bathrooms and entire place was well kept and clean. The location was handy with alot of lovely coffee shops and pubs around. Our room had a little fan heater which was all we needed. It was quite big which was helpful. The kids and us sat on the floor and played some board games.

The only thing was the amount of time it took to get hot water in one of the shared bathrooms (of which there was 2). I would say it took 6-7 min for it to come through and I just hate wasting water. My only other suggestion would be just for something to put your clothes and toiletries on in the bathrooms, a little cabinet or cube shelves would have been useful.

The location was filled with charm, homeliness and was very quiet and comfortable. The location was top notch, and all the best cafes were just a stroll away, as we learned about in the handy info sheets in our room. The gourmet pizzas made in the restaurant downstairs were the best we’ve ever had, and were truly the icing on the cake to an amazing stay!

Great location, close to the best beaches in Newcastle. Comfy bed and heating in the room. Nice and cozy pub downstairs, they do the yummiest pizza! Must try! Friendly and helpful staff.

If I really had to find something, I’d say please put on darker blinds on the windows in the rooms because the white blinds let the light in and it is sooo bright in the early morning (I am not an early riser)

It was a place with a special atmosphere, it was situated close to the place where I could easily walk. Bonus is a delicious pizza being prepared in the pub. I have not eaten such tasty pizza for very long

If you wish to have more quiet space and go to bed early, please do not take room no 1.
