Beautiful interior design and attention to detail. The colour scheme was dark and 19th century moody. I Loved the guest honesty bar . The rooms were small but clever and had all amenities with the mezzanine bathroom. The breakfast was served in the cocktail bar and although we had to wait for a table it was worth it , delicious . The staff were friendly and the location could not be more central. Ghent is a fantastic city if you like the arts, design and walkable canal streets. A nicer version of Amsterdam.

I thought the actual hotel would be a bit bigger in terms of places to sit, the view out of the windows was obscured by the original stone wall. I appreciate that the design had to have compromises but when you are in the middle of the city you want to see it from your room. We also found it difficult to find the front door, maybe could be signposted more easily.

Location. We loved the look and feel, real castle vibes. The service was amazing too. From the very beginning you can feel that they REALLY value the customer. The hotel has many of points of access, and it also provides easter eggs such as a common sitting room exquisitely decorated with windows to amazing views of Ghent. The rooms are super quiet. The shower was out of this world and in the bathroom they also provided a scale (!!!). I will never forget the bed either. It has to be one of the most comfortable ones I've ever slept in. Our room had a view to Sint Niklaaskerk. I loved the staircase in the room and the nespresso machine was great. Make sure you visit The Cobbler (the bar from the hotel) too. Really fancy, super cosy. I know it's not cheap but the whole experience is really worth it. We loved The Post and would definitely choose it again if we go back to Ghent.

Just some suggestions, the room could've been larger and have better illumination. Also the loo is separated from the shower, something we found pretty common in most of the stays we visited in Belgium. Still not comfortable at all. The refrigerator could have been better, since all of our beverages felt warm.

Overall, it is a good experience to stay there. With their own characterized and a stylish hotel from a very old constructed building. Good location in the center of city, Nice services of the staffs and a cleaning room.

Feel bad we were hard to find the entrance before we checked in. The entrance was hidden inside a tiny garden. This was out of our expectations as it is a grand hotel. The room is good, but the lighting facility is not good enough as the room is in a dark green painting with a small window. The bed is good, but the bed sheet and blanket cover are not soft enough.

The room, like the hotel was quirky, spacious and very comfortable. We had been upgraded on arrival so that was an excellent start to our short break. The hotel is located in a beautiful part of the old town, next to the river and was ideal for touring by boat, by foot, by tram.

The only point for other prospective guests is that there is no proper dining facility - understandable when there are so many great places to eat nearby - but breakfast, served in the bar, was not worth the money.

Very central location, especially for the Ghent Festival! Enjoyed the breakfast area and the room had a great view of the river. Good tips from staff about climbing St Barfs, shopping and local eateries.

There was no washbasin in the toilet room - you had to climb the stairs which was slightly unusual. One member of staff just said she wasn’t from the area and couldn’t help with recommendations etc and that old me to go to tourist information! Glad to say she was not the norm - all other staff were great.

Staying at 1898 is a unique experience. It is not just a hotel, it brings you the sense of another century. The hotel, rooms, even the corridors were atmospheric. Room was very clean. The location by the bridge, couldn't be better. The bed linen and towels were the softest we have ever seen. Top quality in every detail. Ghent is an ideal location for a romantic weekend and 1989 Post is the best place to stay.

Would expect a hotel at this level to offer slippers, we didn't mind as we had ours, but we would expect the opposite.

Impeccable service and appearance, I really thought all the details were thought of and it felt very high-end, from the room decoration and books to the corridor and honor bar room. Great view and breakfast too.

A bit noisy due to the location near a lot of bars. The windows/walls were very sound-proofed so it's not the hotel's fault, but if you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. Entrance for check in is a bit hard to find and not well signed (it seems as if you're going to the bar, the reception sign was hidden a bit.

The hotel was fascinating in terms of its build and décor and this added much to the experience of staying. The location, in the heart of the old city could not have been better.

Our only 'minor' irritation was the bathroom facilities in the room. The room, due to its height, was on two levels. The toilet was on the ground floor but had no hand wash sink although, a disinfectant wash was provided (not ideal or liked by us). The shower and sink was on the upper floor and although very good, made a night time 'excursion' difficult. A room not for anyone with mobility issues!

The hotel itself was an awesome building (renovated post office) that did a fantastic job of merging old world charm with new modern appeal. The staff were exceptional, and went out of their way to ensure that our stay was wonderful. I would also recommend the hotel bar - it was a trendy, fun cocktail bar that was almost always packed. Top-notch location, right in the center of town and made for a great overall experience.

The hotel is located right on a very busy square and there was always something happening right outside your window. The windows did a great job of blocking out any noise and the blackout curtains ensured that we enjoyed a great sleep every night. There are many steps in the hotel (normal for Europe), which is something to be aware of if you have any mobility issues.

The customer service is fantastic. Stephan actually rode with me to the parking garage since there is no on site parking. My vehicle was too large for the garage across the street so he directed me to the nearest one with access. Amazing, friendly staff.

The interior is a little confusing to navigate, but the people are amazing so this was insignificant. Room was a little smaller than anticipated, yet comfortable and pleasant. I cannot wait to come back in the future.
