The 2 bedroom apartment was a very good size for our family of 5. It was clean, the staff were great, and beds we’re comfortable! They even had an extra bed in the living area, since we had 5, which was nice. Walking distance to everything and there was a nice connivence store right on corner. There were fans in apartment, which was nice, and an elevator that was a plus for groceries/luggage.

The only real negatives were that there isn’t parking and the parking garage is a ways away, but pretty reasonable for 24 hour parking (~15 euros). The lobby was a bit musty smelling but not the apartment. Instructions to operate the stove would have been helpful because we could not get it to work.

Our party of three stayed in a four person room with a king bed and twin bunks. The staff was fantastic and personally took you to your room. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the bathrooms were very large.The room had a coffee maker with pods and sugar, and though the room had no air-conditioning, the room did have a fan. The hotel offered breakfast. We did not eat there since it was a little pricey (17€ per adult/9€ per child under 17 years). There is a bakery just around the corner that was absolutely delicious, and we ate for less than 20€. So much better option for us. The hotel also has an Irish pup inside for lunch and dinner. Everything is within close walking, the main sightseeing attractions, the shops, restaurants...ect. We just happened to arrive at the start of a 4-day celebration for Belgiums Independence Day. The atmosphere was fantastic. The entertainment throughout the city was amazing with lots of food and drink vendors. What we found most interesting was that the city has open air urinals for men everywhere. If only they could add toilets for women in convenient locations. At the corner, just before the hotel is a mini market where you can get some cold drinks and snacks. There is also a barber that does a fantastic job and takes walk-ins if you fund yourself in need of a fresh cut (he cuts adults' hair only 28€). This city is such a hidden gem and would definitely come back and would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Parking at the hotel is limited and requires a reservation. We were unable to get a reservation, but the hotel provided us with a list of public parking close by that you can park your car for 24 hours, which is very safe. So we would have lo Ed parking at the hotel, but the close by parking worked out. The Saint Michael parking is the closest parking (4-5 minute walk) garage, but more expensive, about 25€ for 24 hours. We parked at Savaant parking garage (7 minuteswalk), 15€ for 24 hours.

The hotel itself is located at quiet neighbourhood. The room is spacious for 4 of us. The city hall is reachable by walking distance. The surrounding is safe, but of course, always be alert, is for safety reason. Hidden gem: the restaurant just next to the hotel, can resolve your meal problem should you not wish to go far in cold day.

No lift accessible is common issue for the Ghent City Centre. Be prepared climbing staircase is necessary should you choose to stay in heart of the city. The hotel seems to have two rooms that in basement. Send the request if you have problem in mobility.

The staff were absolutely lovely and helpful on carrying our cases up the two flights of stairs. They were also extremely knowledgeable about Ghent and explained in detail the maps and the best places to go! Our room was lovely and spacious too, with a great bath in the room!

The only thing I would say would be that I would have preferred to have coffee/tea served to us at breakfast rather than a self service machine, but I'm not sure if the space would accommodate that. The coffee was delicious so it wasn't a problem from that perspective!

Not only a value for money hotel, but it was far beyond our expectations overall! So beautiful rooms and location, but what we loved more, it was the Reception staff that was unbelievably helpful and more! Not only amazing professionals, but so warm people that their first priority is by far guest's satisfaction! Kudos and much respect especially for those two amazing and full of kindness ladies at the Reception desk! The ultimate customer experience that completely deserves such amazing property! Wonderfully comfy and quiet room--like staying in an old school pub room. There is in fact an excellent pub/restaurant linked to the hotel with great food and drink, and a friendly bar cat named, Guiness. Very centrally located--we were there for a premiere at the Ghent Opera. For heaven's sake, don't go to an Ibis. The Onderbergen is must more fun. For breakfast, try Luv L'Oeuf, a short walk away.

I'm not sure. Some people might prefer alienating box hotels, but we appreciated the charm and quiet of the Onderbergen. Internet was better than alienating box hotel!

The hotel exceeded our expectations. We had a specious room with a high ceiling and a very comfortable bed. It was very neat and clean. In general it seems that the hotel has been recently renovated. Evgenia, the lady at the reception, was very sweet and welcoming. She made a personalized map for us with places to visit and it was very helpful. The location of the hotel is also great: very close the center and on a quiet street. I'll definitely stay again next time I'm in Ghent.

Towels could have a been a little thicker.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel had a lot of character and our room was huge! The location was good, easy to get to on the tram and an easy walk to everywhere we wanted to visit.

No air conditioning so we kept our windows open and had a few mosquitoes in the room. It was a little bit noisy on the street outside our room with people walking past at night.

Brilliant Location so close to the city center and very accessible by tram from the main train station. Really friendly and helpful staff who were a pleasure to deal with. There is a pub connected to the hotel through a pathway that provides good food and drink, but it is not so close that you would hear the crowds at night. Spacious rooms and a modern bathroom. Comfortable bed.

Stairs were a bit steep and windy to our room, however this was fine as we are young. We stayed during exceptionally hot weather and the lack of AC showed however we did have a fan provided to us which helped.

Amazing room (lux suite) with an "old Flemish house" flair - high ceiling supported by century-old wooden beams, very airy and light (windows to two sides). Staff was very helpful and responsive, confirmed early check-in immediately, went forward to offer us a secure parking for the motorcycle in the courtyard, upgraded our room for free, and in general was very pleasant to communicate with.

The breakfast is a bit plain for 12 euro pp, but I guess that's normal for Belgium/Ghent. Also there was some minor "wear in tear" on the items in the room.
