The hostel is close to public transport (trams) and is easy accessible. There are plenty of different bars/restaurants/delis with different cuisine nearby to meet every kind of taste. Also very practical is a self-service laundry just across the street. Staff is friendly and it is no problem to leave the luggage at the hostel after check-out if you still have a whole day to explore the city

The surrounding area is a bit less clean and friendly, but not dangerous (at least not during daytime).

Perfect location being in the middle of Kensington market Everything you'd ever need is nearby Staff is super friendly

Curtains of the bed could use some changing You can very easily peek into other people's bed defeating the purpose of the curtains

No comment on as did not take advantage of breakfast option. New owners addressed:1)safety issue of questionables lurking afterhours with a new safety gate closure at exits; 2)the addition of 24 hour front desk are necessary and substantial game changers as accountability, action and safety are addressed; 3)free laundry towels welcome and appreciated.

Security room passes still need access correction.

I stayed in a private room. It was a decent size, bed was comfy, and the desk and side tables were a nice touch and not always to be expected in a private hostel room! The shared bathroom facilities were always clean and never seemed busy during my February stay. Staff were helpful. Had a hairdryer I could borrow, and space to leave bags. Breakfast was decent for a hostel - bagels, spreads, cereals, and things for oatmeal. And coffee and tea of course. Neighbourhood was cool, a bit of noise from the street but nothing too crazy. Earplugs were provided but I didn't need them. It's not a 4* hotel room, don't be mistaken, but as a private hostel room it was very good.

It was clear nobody had cleaned under the bed for a while, but other than that the room was very clean.

Staff was friendly and helpful! Comfortable beds and convenient location for the main sightseeing spots.

Only one working shower for women on the floor which seemed a bit surprising considering the amount of rooms there, low water pressure, motion lights which is an interesting choice when you need to get out in the middle of the shower to wave towel or smth to get light back on and it wasn't feeling exactly hygienic. The second shower as I understood was under repair as holes in the walls were left open. Toilet paper wasn't replenished in 2 days at least which trust me was inconvenient as well.

Great staff, clean rooms, secure/safe building and great location. The staff was very helpful and nice. The room, and overall building, was very clean and organized. I really liked how secure the building was since there are a lot of homeless people wondering in the area. You need your key to access the lobby. Once you're in the lobby, you'll need the key again to access the stairs, access the floor where your room is at and finally your room. Their security is on point and it really gives you peace of mind as a traveller, especially if you're not used to large cities with lots of homeless people. I stayed at the Samesun Montreal the week before my stay in Toronto and their security was pretty bad (lots of homeless people outside the hostel and anyone can just walk into the building, I had some unpleasant moments in the lobby while trying to eat lunch). This was not the case in Samesun Toronto. Very well managed hostel. Location is great since you can walk to downtown and get to the train/busses fairly easy. I would definitely recommend staying at Samesun Toronto.

Small bathrooms and not many toilets. This was not really an issue for me. However, the bathrooms could get crowded depending on the time of the day. This can be an issue if you're in a rush.

Bed was pretty comfy for a hostel bed, each bed has a curtain that can be pulled round for extra privacy. All beds have a small unit with a light + several plug sockets that are very handy. Large lockers in rooms and luggage storage avilable for anything that wont fit. Showers are hot and powerful with free-to-use toiletries. Clean towel everyday too for free. Great location in the heart of Kensington Market, plenty to do very close by. Staff were really friendly and helpful if you need anything or have any questions. Has a good, friendly vibe and the local area has great atmosphere and nightlife. Simple free breakfast is provided between set hours. Kiitchen open all the time, plenty of seats in there too. Overall great value for money and I would stay there again.

Kitchen wasn't stocked the best for the amount of people staying there, short of a few pots and pans, also no kettle so if you want to heat up water it's either the stove or the microwave

Great price. The beds had privacy curtains which was a nice touch.

The showers were separated by curtains instead of doors which wasn’t ideal!

Great value for the money, good location (20 mins walk to downtown core or there’s a street car stop right next to the building), lots of cafes in the area, comfortable room, clean, staff was great, basic breakfast included (coffee/tea, cereals, bagels and waffles with jam, apples), storage room where you can leave your luggage, AC and balcony in the room, we got one with the downtown view and we loved it

I would’ve been happier if the washroom could be locked with just one person inside for more privacy, but it’s the stalls type. Not a big deal though. Could be a bit noisy but they provide ear plugs

Samesun Toronto was a lot better than I expected. It's like a deluxe hostel. The interior was stylish. The dining room had painted pictures of Toronto & Canadian icon symbols. The breakfast buffet has a good selection of cereals and the bagels are very delicious. My bed was comfortable, so I slept well. Body soap, hair shampoo and conditioner are supplied in the showers. This is the kind of hostel that everybody would like to stay at.

I didn't like the hostel freezing $50 on my debit card. It's like implying that your guest might be a criminal. It's not a friendly way to start the business - customer relationship. The hostel staff also hesitated to accept my Canadian-bank issued debit card for a 2 night stay almost insisting that I pay with a credit card. By being picky about the payment method, I felt like I was being bossed around by the hostel staff. Samesun Toronto is a pleasant hostel to stay at, but not pleasant when it comes down to accepting payment for the stay.
