I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hostal Rio Amazonas during my solo trip to Santiago, Chile, and I must say it was an incredible experience! First and foremost, the staff at Hostal Rio Amazonas were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Their warmth and hospitality made me feel right at home from the moment I stepped through the door. They went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable, providing valuable local insights and recommendations. Cleanliness is a top priority for me when choosing accommodation, and Hostal Rio Amazonas exceeded my expectations. The rooms were impeccably clean, and the common areas were well-maintained throughout my entire stay. It's evident that the staff takes pride in creating a spotless and inviting environment for guests. The location of Hostal Rio Amazonas couldn't have been more convenient. Situated in a central area, it allowed me easy access to various attractions, restaurants, and public transportation. This made exploring Santiago a breeze and added to the overall enjoyment of my trip. As a solo woman traveler, safety is paramount, and I felt incredibly secure at Hostal Rio Amazonas. The hostel has excellent security measures in place, providing peace of mind during my stay. This, coupled with the friendly atmosphere, made it an ideal choice for fellow solo travelers. In conclusion, my stay at Hostal Rio Amazonas was nothing short of fantastic. From the very friendly staff to the spotless cleanliness, convenient location, and heightened safety for solo travelers, I wholeheartedly recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Santiago. Thank you, Hostal Rio Amazonas, for making my trip memorable!

Staff were really lovely and accommodating, and we were able to check in early, right off our flight. The hostel is really colourful with lots of common spaces and a bar, as well as some food options, which we were grateful for. You can also buy a real cappuccino: not always the case in Chile! Very well located near Lastarria and Bellavista and a metro station. Breakfast was decent: bread rolls, cheese, boiled egg, yoghurt, juice and a piece of fruit, but if you want a proper coffee you have to pay extra. Finally we loved Ginny the dog!
The second room we stayed in (when we came back before flying home) was far less comfortable: there was a window facing the corridor that let loads of light in all night. Also no plug socket for the lamp.

Very helpful staff, they showed us what neighbourhoods to visit and when it was safest to do so. It is near a few vegan restaurants and is centrally located. The decor is bright and colourful.
This was our first night in Chile. We didn't know about the VAT tax. We used a debit card as it has no international fees and were charged an extra 19% tax. It could have been avoided if we used a credit card which would have had a small transaction fee. This wasn't clear in the booking and payment process.

This place is awesome and the staff are the best! Caroline and I got into lots of chats about Chilean Spanish getting to know the culture, she is so rad--and helpful--thank you for the multiple lessons! ... Miriam was also super kind and really helpful, as were all of the rest of the warm and welcoming staff. This place is like a big family--all the people who work here are like a big family, and you can be a part of it for the time that you're here, if you care to. It's a real community vibe, feels excellent, and there are also plenty of guests around to chat with, if you like. The Hostal itself is in a very cool old house with excellent hangout spaces and with quite some variety. The outdoor terrace where breakfast is served is so nice to chill out in and write and drink máte. The sunlight changes throughout the day in the different spaces and makes each one feel differently. It feels really cozy, like your home. Lots of plants and gorgeous oil paintings by the owner of the place of scenes from all over Chile. The room is spacious and filled with light with a comfortable bed. Great location in the midst or between all of the not so touristy and cool districts that I wanted to visit. I really felt at home here relaxing in the various public spaces and getting into conversations with different people who work here. Great restaurant option as well with a nice variety of yummy food and also a bar with drink options. It was super relaxed and easy to be here and feel really comfortable and happy. It was however, difficult to leave! Thank you for a great stay and I will certainly return if I am ever in Santiago again for any amount of time! :)
Leaving was a bit tough!

The staff was amazing and very accommodating to our needs. Our room didn't quite suit our needs, and they graciously moved us to another room as soon as one was available. They also held our luggage for us for the two days we traveled to Rapa Nui. The courtyard was lovely and a great hangout space for our group to relax together in the evening. We liked the quirkiness of the rooms and the building.
I picked the hostel because of the central location, but we experienced a theft of personal property in Barrio Italia, so we spend most of our time in the La Starria district after that, which was very nice. There weren't many dining options in walking distance to the hostel that felt safe after dark. Also, I picked specific room types for our reservations, but we didn't receive those room types initially.

Loved the vibe of the place. Friendly staff, allowed me to check in an hour or two earlier, because the room was clean and available. The place has an expresso machine, a bar and a nice hang out area! There are a lot of paintings and illustrations gracing the walls, so lot's to see and get information off... Great location!
My room was facing the main road so there was quite a bit of road noise. Ask for a room in the back, if you are a light sleeper.

Great location, near the metro and bus stops. As well as walking distance to most tourist districts. Staff is kind and helpful. The bed was comfortable. The old building is very charming, also liked the patio in the middle a lot (suggestion: add a few sofas or armchairs to relax).
Breakfast (paid extra) is served with individual portions, I'd prefer a buffet-style. Filter coffee is included but that from the bar is extra. Room got very hot at night.

The location was great, and the guest house art and decor were very pretty, bright and cheery. The staff were helpful and kind. My room was very clean and comfy. I had everything O needed and enjoyed drinks with other guests from around the world in the evenings.
It was all great! It might be nice to add a gluten-free carbohydrate item (other than the crackers which were bland) to breakfast. Many people who are gluten-free can't have oatmeal either. But corn flakes or canned corn heated in the microwave would be helpful.

Very well located in a secure area, but walking distance to the old colonial town and many good restaurants. The hostal has a most welcoming friendly atmosphere, with a nice bar and restaurant area, and offers their own free map of Santiago and information of all kinds. The top room with four beds we had was spacious and quiet. Breakfast was good value.
Its a preserved, characterful building. So no lift.

Breakfast is very good with a wide selection of fruit, bread and eggs if desired. The hostel is within 4 blocks of the Bella Vista area where there a good selection of bars and restaurants. Easy walking or metro distance to Plaza de Armas. Each of the rooms is a bit different since the hostel is in an older home. The rooms in the back are quieter. No AC but most nights are cool. Exceedingly helpful staff.
