Winston and the staff are exceptionally helpful from arranging airport transfers to accommodating early breakfast for our morning flight. Super helpful and patient with helping me improve my Spanish! =) The rooms are comfortable, clean, and quiet (keep in mind, there is a train that runs near the property, but only during the day). There is also a roof-top balcony where you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and mountains around you! The hotel is located in an upper-middle class area of town within perfect walking distance of a cluster of very modern and diverse restaurants (Barrio Escalante). Also perfect base to explore the rest of the central city sites as a walking tour. Breakfast - what can I say?! Fresh fruit, fresh bread, eggs, and Costa Rican coffee... best start to each day in San Jose!

Nothing that we didn't like.

My partner and I were here for a week for a conference and for tourism. Everyone at Hotel Casa 69 was helpful and generous with their time. Truly excellent service. The location in itself is fantastic, and the hotel is a secluded oasis in an otherwise bustling city while still being a 10-15min walk from all touristy landmarks (the National Theatre, Museums, etc.) and 2 min from the nightlife (Barrio Escalante) We loved our stay and recommend it to all our friends.

I can not say enough good things about Casa 69 and Winston. We were supposed to stay there one night upon arrival to Costa Rica and had to cancel at the last minute because we didn't make our flight. Although at that point they could have charged us full fare, they gave us a full refund. Then we did stay there on our last night. I had fallen the day before and couldn't walk. Winston had our room ready by 11:00 and although I had crutches I couldn't use them on the few steps that they had. Winston practically lifted me up over them, taught me how to use the crutches and gave me so much positive vibes he was like my own personal Physical therapist. The room was comfy and breakfast is in a charming little courtyard. I will definitely recommend Casa 69 to my friends and would stay there again in a heartbeat. Thank you Winston!

I didn't experience anything negative.

We stayed here just for 1 night on the way back home out of San Jose. Didn't have any great expectations but the property is well-maintained, the inside courtyard is gorgeous, and the location overall is perfect to go out to restaurants and bars. The room was extremely comfortable, the breakfast generous and the hosts warm & kind. We really enjoyed our brief stay and cannot recommend this place highly enough! One note: if you are coming by rental car, make sure to book the parking for an additional fee. The hotel is very centrally located, and parking on the street is not generally advisable. There are some public car parks nearby and might have to shop around for a good price. We paid 6000 Colones for overnight parking (for about 16 hours).

Everything was great!

Breakfast was tasty, no buffet but they have various options to choose from which will be freshly prepared. The hotel has a colourful aesthetic and the location is central and feels safe. Staff was always super helpful and in a good mood :)

You can hear the train nearby honking very loudly, only a problem when you are a light sleeper or planning to stay inside the room for most of the time. The room was quite dark since the window is located at the side of the building with some plants in front.

We stayed one night, the room had a private aspect to it and we felt safe (our room was separate from the hotel on the other side of the road). The bed was huge and comfortable. Entry and exit were easy with the security fob. We were able to walk 7 minutes to the National Museum. Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed watching the men's Wimbledon final in the (lovely and cool) hotel reception! We liked the proximity to the bar/restaurant at the bottom of the road, meaning we didn't need to walk around at night. Also very close to a secure-feeling ATM.

There was nothing about the hotel we didn't like, it was great for what we needed. The area around it feels a bit run down and the taxi had some difficulty finding it, but that is not the hotel's fault. We tried to use the safe in the room but there was no power in it, however that wasn't too much a problem for our one night stop.

Casa 69 is more than a hotel, it is an experience. The owner’s love of art is evident on each and every wall through the common areas to the rooms. The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. The interior common spaces of the hotel have obviously received a great deal of thought. there are a couple of chairs and a cafe table outside most rooms for a read, cup of tea or glass of wine. Also there is a rooftop ares providing wonderful views of San Jose. The owner and staff are fantastic individuals and are always keen to share a jest or provide local advice. The included breakfast was wonderful and featured some of the best fresh bread I’ve ever tasted. It lured us down from two floors above each morning. The hotel is located half a block off the eastern end of Avenue 0 and provided an absolutely ideal base for visiting most of the things in San Jose that a person would like to see. A must stay in San Jose as far as we are concerned.

This was my second time staying at the hotel, this time for more than a month. Management also provided assistance for my two-week excursion to Nicaragua. The hotel is convenient to tourist sites and several excellent restaurants. It provides excellent security and assistance for traveler safety. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. It provides great value at a reasonable cost.

There was so much to like that I find little to fault; however, one issue comes to mind. Since I was staying there during a congressional election in the U.S., and had voted early, I wanted to follow the election results. News television coverage in English was minimal and shoddy at best. Costa Rican news channels were few and without sound, although I could understand some of the coverage in Spanish, I was disappointed with the cable news coverage, even though I was happy to avoid TV watching other times.

They offer a very good breakfast with eggs either scrambled or poached. It includes two warm buns with jam and margarine and an assortment of fresh fruit. Casa 69 includes a house across the street of similar vintage which is where I stayed. Both are very charming. Casa 69 is a welcoming place and offers a oasis of greenery and colourful paintings in the middle of the city. The shuttle I used to get to San Jose from Manuel Antonio (RideCR) had no problem finding the address. There is a good Peruvian restaurant around the corner (Valicha) and an ATM machine a short block away as well. It takes 30 minutes to walk to the Tuasa public bus station. From there you can catch a bus to the airport for 800 colones (about $2 Canadian) which is convenient if you are a backpacker. Allow up to 50 minutes for the trip to the airport during rush hour. It is also a short enough distance that a cab fare to Tuasa would be relatively inexpensive as well.

The small fridge in my room was not plugged in. I didn't actually need to use a fridge until the last day and had permission to use the fridge in the main kitchen with no issues. The door of my room (#12) would rattle on occasion. My solution was to shut the door with a small towel or other piece of light fabric in place which solved the rattling.

The property is very well decorated and a very nice vibe, especially the patio. Room is really comfortable, and staff are so sweet and helpful. We needed to leave early for a tour and they made us breakfast early which was so nice. I really enjoyed exploring the city. The night life is very lively with young people all over the place going to bars and clubs

At some areas around the hotel it felt a bit isolated so I felt a bit nervous walking, but that's also because I read reviews to be careful in San Jose so I was already on edge. Nothing unsafe ever happened though.
