Amazing location, right in the heart of the city with our room looking out onto Notre Dame across the Seine. The hotel was full of character, quirky, certainly very old (I think the decor hadn't been changed in 50 years!) and such warm and welcoming hosts who loved to chat and were full of useful advice about Paris and lots of interesting anecdotes about the hotel's past. Despite being old, the room was clean, the bathroom was spacious and had plenty of hot flowing water. The staff were so accommodating - we were able to check in early without giving them notice and could leave our bags there after check-out as we had a late train back to London.

Not good for people with mobility issues as lots of stairs and narrow doorways. But that is part of the character of the place!

My sister & I stayed at the beautifully quaint Hotel Esmeralda ! It felt like staying in a life size dolls house ! Really comfortable beds, large grand windows to open to hear the hustle & bustle of Paris go by. Francesco was very helpful, straight away carried our luggage upstairs to our room. Very central to all the cafe’s & a 5 minute walk to Notre Dame. The decor was eclectic & you immediately felt at home & safe within your room at night. The shower was in good working order ! If you want to experience the Paris in the oil paintings of Cezanne this Latin quarter & hotel will experience this here ! I recommend the Carbaret cafe round the corner for authentic Parisian entertainment that transports you to the jazz & carbaret of old style Paris.

It was old style Parisian that had been carefully restored to reflect the decades !

An amazing view of Notre Dame Cathedral from my window, literally ~100m away. The hotel is also very close to two metro lines making it a very convenient place to stay. The staff are incredibly nice & helpful.

Not really a complaint but being an old building no lift & steep narrow stairs (common enough in Europe). So lugging bags up & down can be a challenge. The room also has very old furnishings, but again not really a complaint. just putting it down for other people's reference.

We loved our stay at hotel Esmeralda! We are a family of four (two teens). We were in the one room for a night which was perfect. We absolutely loved the owner he was so delightful and carried our bags upstairs for us. He was so accommodating and kind. The hotel is old and quaint so don’t expect any luxury except for the view and location. We rate it 5 star because of the experience of old Paris and the owner. The view was incredible from our window

Very convenient to every place we wanted to go. It was a very cool old hotel. Hotel staff were wonderful and very accommodating to our needs.

We are old and climbing the steps was difficult. We were aware that there would be no elevator before we booked it but booked it anyway because of the location and it was a last minute reservation. Only a partial shower barrier and water splashed in the floor. My roommate slipped on the wet bathroom floor and hit her head and back on the tub. She is still in pain a week later.

You need to go a long way to find better location in Paris and to be honest it is also a lot of real athmosphere in this hotel - it is also one of the bext value for money you can get in Paris Hotel. Additionally - the hotel and the rooms are very clean, despite relativelly small room bathroom is of good size. There was no TV in the room(which I really liked), yet WIFI was perfect. Also the staff is very friendly and extremely helpful! Would be great to be back.

There is 60 steps to get to my room on the spiral staircase, no problem at all for person alone, yet in case you have bigger than medium suitcase - could be an issue. Another topic - the tea kettle would be of great addition to the room.

Hotel Esmeralda has the perfect location. You can see the Notre-Dame cathedral from your window. Considering that the hotel is an old building, I was pleasantly surprised by the comfort we had in our room and the fully equipped private bathroom. The staff was helpful and really nice. They kept our baggage after check out and they even offered us an umbrella as it was a rainy day in Paris. The property fully met our expectations as we got a charming room in an old building with the perfect view and location. I would stay here again anytime.

the location was amazing! spitting distance of Notre dame and the metro. lovely local cafes and restaurants nearby, not too many chains. felt really authentic. staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly too.

we stayed in the top floor which had the best view but was a bit of a pain getting up and down with luggage. Also the hotel requires that you leave your room keys at the property when you go out for the day, wasn’t a problem at all as all we had to do was ask for them when we returned but don’t understand why they didn’t have a spare set. however I’d do it all again for all the reasons mentioned above!

Traditional French hotel in an excellent location - can see the Notre damme from your window! Close to the metro and various cafes, also felt very safe as a solo female traveler. Loved the historical features and the tiny winding staircases. Staff were very helpful and spoke English if you need. WiFi was also good.

If you're looking for a modern hotel with modern decor then this is not for you.

It's a little place located in the Latin quarter right across the river from Notre-Dame. It feels very historical. You should be prepared that the rooms are small, you will hear people on the stairs, the building is old. But it feels right for Paris. Also, you'll have a small but modern bathroom with good pressure of hot water, and it was dark and quiet at night. I highly recommend it if you value authentic experience over the usual comfort.

For some the absence of the AC and TV might be a problem. I was lucky with the weather and didn't care about the TV.
